hi,

anybody can help me to decipher this problem of mine?

I have upgraded my 16" tyres (stock std) on my R32 to 17". Eversince then, I have this deep hollow whirring noise whenever I do a right turn on a round-about or a tight turn. This noise seems to be coming from the front of my car.

And the noise doesn't exist whenever I am travelling straight.

Any suggestions on what the heck is going on here? I am having 17x8 at the front and 17x9 at the back. 235/45 n 255/40 respectively.

Any advice would be appreciated.

BIGBLOCKR31COUPE - it is close to 113000 km.

Duncan - how do u tell if it is the bearings that is stuffed? And how much to replace them?

DJ984 - I found rubber marks on the A-arm at the front. I suspect that my tyres rubbed against the "arms" when I brake hard. Any suggestions to how I should go about solving them?

Thanks to one and all for your advice.

When you brake hard???? It could be one of many things and without hearing the actual noise we are all guessing. Could be worn suspension bushes, wheel bearings, tyre fault, loose plastic trim.....the list goes on. Ask a suspension specialist to have a look. It might only cost you a couple of bucks.

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
