Cheers guys! It's a new PB for me and it feels great to be setting some semi-decent times in a car my brother and I built from scratch on a very tight budget.

I'm slowly climbing up the order and rankings but will never be able to match the might of the R35 GTR's!!!

The Silvia has more in it as I didn't have a perfect lap. I ran wide on one apex and out braked myself on the last corner causing understeerbut was still my fastest lap.

We could not have asked for a better day really, it was fine, sunny and 21 degrees. The first session of the day was extremely slippery with almost every car in my group running off or turning themselves around.

The track came to us later in the day with increased temperature and better grip levels.

MX5 club run a very well organised event and I can recommend going to any event they hold.

Met some cool guys yesterday and can't wait to catch up with everyone next round at Eastern Creek 16/05/10.

I have some in-car footage with me chasing a Torana SS and Brian's R100 but I've got to work out how to edit and upload on youtube and link it etc.

Would really like to see the footage when your following the R100, trying to sort out the wheel lifting on the car and like to see exactly when it lifts up.

Cheers Brian

Here's the link to youtube video. Session 3 of the day. Last lap was the 1:07.8

Unfortunately I didn't get footage of the 1:07.4 I did in session 4.

But I think it's still ok vid to watch.

geat video, especially the bit chasing Brian! if you've got grip for aggresssive turn 4 entry (looks like you do) try staying right after T3, i found that can be a tad quicker.

Thanks Duncan! Yes I actually tried a different line through turn's 3 and 4 like you said in the next session (4) and found it quicker. Less change of direction and smoother.

It's the first time I've had in-car footage and it is a very useful tool to improve driving skills. I see so many mistakes in that video!!

Thats fast, if you dont mind me asking what size tires and coilovers are you using?

Thanks mate. Tyres are Kumho V70 245/45/17 and I'm using the cheapest, nastiest coilovers available (G4) with drift spec spring rates 12.7kg/mm up front and 9.5kg/mm on rear. Obviously not that great.

Suspension is the next thing I'm looking at changing, but it all costs money. I'm happy just to turn up and compete at the moment until I can afford some upgrades.

The R32 will return one day, then we can go toe to toe, maybe next years championship. It will be good to see how the two compare.

I'm very happy with our results and I know there is at least 2 more seconds in the S13 for the future.

Congratulations on a great drive and a great result.

I think most of us had a great day, congrats again to LSX-438 - on a PB and all SAU - havent had time to go through all results yet.

I'd like to give a special thanks to Peter at Advan Performance, for finally tuning our car - no major changes - this has taken 11 months and 3 tune shops, personally - no names - theres some tune shops out there - Nissan, Evo and Subaru that really have to pick their game up. Stop selling the add on's and blaming other peoples issues and get on with the job - some things can be so basic!! If we dont spend the cash on lies you get it in end product and the best advertising is at the track.

As an example, we have picked up a good usable 40kw's @ 5 pound less boost. Helps our budget, helps engine, helps times, what can we say. Thanks Pete.

Got some little mods to do before superlap - the big plan is on a good day - to crack into the high 40's.

Tried Kumho's today, I was a little off the pace on em, enjoyed driving on the tyre, the car's still a bit fat, a cooler day - worth having a look, and probably with our car 4psi more pressure than the A050's.

Comiserations to JFK on a gear box issue, congrats to Sam - great time, hope to see you both later in the week and also to a couple nice and well know sports sedans and lastly to John - Evo on loss of an engine - this is a sad thing, shame this puts you out of the world.

I find Eastern Creek more challenging than Wakefield. There are alot more corners to get right (or wrong) and the average speed is much higher and my car is twitchier.

Personally, I felt I struggled a little to put in a really good lap yesterday, even though the 1:47.5 was a new PB.

It's so challenging, there was always a corner, apex, braking zone etc. I got right in some sections, but then I'd make a small error in another section. It's so hard to put in a perfect lap there!

Highlight for me was gunning it through turn 1 sandwiched between 2 sports sedans at around 200kph seperated by a couple of meters and dialing in opposite lock twice as the car squirmed under me grappling for traction. Then heading into turn 2 braking on the limit in close company. Big smiles!

Decent turn out too with lots of fast cars. Very competitive series and the lap times keep tumbing.

I just want to go faster!

Thanks Chris. Appreciate the cheers!

I'm very happy with the Silvia, it's really fun to drive and I love it!

It's always been a goal of mine to get under 1min 50secs around Eastern Creek so couldn't be happier.

Next round is at Wakefied Park - Saturday 5th June 2010

Then Wakefield again - Sunday 20th June 2010

Best of luck for tomorrow, I really hope you can break into the 40's. Weather is a roll of the dice tomorrow with rain forecast. I hope it stays dry at the Creek.

I'll come see how your doing when I get there about 12 tomorrow. Also I totally agree with your comments on workshops. Why is it so hard to get the simple things done right when paying top $$? When we should be getting the complex things done right for the rate they charge. I have lost all faith in these pricks..

Mark and I have given up on all workshops and do it all ourselves now. Still need to step up to data logging and at track tuning.

Go the R33, I really hope you can put it on the podium.. I will be in your corner..

Rgds,

Andy

OK. So Round 5 is coming up this Saturday at Wakefield Park.

Who's going?

What's the latest with your car?

What can we expect on Saturday?

New PB's?

Sunshine or rain?

Vroom Vroom!!

Weather should be fine!

Got some new stuff happening with my car, hoping for a new PB.

Cyas there, and goodluck to all.

"New Stuff" hey? Sounds interesting....

Hope it's dry, although I would be ok if it was a wet track. Really hones the driving skills when it rains.

Sadly no changes or modifications for me

I'm just hoping my tyres still have some good lap times in them as they are now 7 track days old. Would love to get into the 1:06's

I've got some new stuff as well,,,lets see new rear wheel bearings,,,a new cv boot and a fuel pressure gauge. Woo Hoo.

No rain dances please,,,as much as it's fun,,,I get wet.

See ya's all on saturday.

Neil.

    • Not R7R. Meant to type R&R, obviously enough.
    • Bugger "making it look stock". I put one conventional internally fused Hella relay behind each globe. I just pulled the plugs off the back of the globes and built new loom segments with male and female plug parts to match up to the original loom and the globe, and used the original power wires to each globe coming from the switch through the original loom plug to trigger the relays. Ran a big fat (also separately fused) power wire across the front of the car to feed all the relays. It's as ugly as f**k, but it is wedged down between the headlight and battery on the RHS and the airbox and headlight on the LHS, and no-one ever looks in my engine bay, and on the odd occasion that they do I simply give no f**ks for what they think. Fully reversible - not that you'd ever want to. For f**k's sake. It's a Skyline. They made million of the bloody things. We've been crashing them into roadside furniture for 30 years now. There is a negative side effect to putting relays on the headlights. The coil current is too little to properly clean the contacts in the switches and they get blacked up and you have to open them up every couple of years and clean them manually. I have 25 years of experience on this point.
    • I was poking through the R34 wiring diagrams vs R33 and noticed that the R34 has proper headlight relays while the R33 is like the R32 and sends full headlight power through the headlight switch. I'm not afraid of wiring but I really would like to do this in a way that looks OEM (clipping into open positions on the OEM relay box) and also unlike the factory wiring which interlocks the high beam and low beam on the halogen series 1 GTR headlights I want to make it such that turning on the high beams keeps the low beams on as well. Any advice on how to locate the specific connectors + crimp terminals + relays I need? I was thinking one NO relay for low beams and another for combined high + low running off the factory high beam headlight connector. I don't really want to splice into a crusty old probably discontinued factory harness so fully reversible is my goal here.
    • Pretty sure they run the same engine as the Q50 hybrid which specifies 95 RON.  I ran 98 in mine for a while, but it made no difference in performance or economy, so I have been using 95 for the last few years.  I have never hit 6.0L/100km, but have returned mid to high 6 on the highway.  Being a hybrid, fuel economy is a lot more dependant on how you drive it.  At 110km/h, mine never goes into EV mode on the highway, so returns closer to 7.5L/100. urban driving can return low 8s if you are careful or over 10 if you are a bit more enthusiastic on the throttle.
    • About a quarter of what you want to do. It's only R7R, not R&dismantle&replaceparts&reassemble&R. ? It is stock. I already told you, you will NOT have broken those. It's f**king 4th gear for Christ's sake. You just chipped the teeth off.
