NPC make some of the best clutches around. Their twins are used in 1000+hp cars. I run an NPC single with 600hp no problems !

only a single.... launchs, drivability ?? do you know if they are like the Jim Berry ones which have mega clamp like the one I have now with 4200lbs clamp, feels like a sledgehammer hitting the drivetrain ?

Having used both Jim Berry single plate and NPC id have to say that both are excellent in high horsepower applications. My current NPC twin plate cops over 1000hp every launch and is nice and quiet unlike the Jap items that have that annoying rattle.

  • 5 weeks later...
Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the NPC range of twin plates..........

or what about nismo coppermix twins are they rebuildable ???

I had one in my rb30/26 running 580hp and the preasure plate smashed after a week and destroyed my gear box. I was only running the cluch in no launches at all. It was a single plate 5puk from npc

ive used alot of clutch brands and my npc twin is by far the best drivability and ive never had any hint of slip with 600rwhp, 1750kg car and revlimiter drag launches with a dogbox. I have used an os giken quad and it was annoying to drive, on and off engagement which sucks. The NPC is so smooth to engage and its such a soft pedal feel considering the power it can hold. I would have no issue using it as a daily driver clutch its great.

Ive also used direct clutch twin plate, extreme singles as well to compare.

They are cheap too compared to the jap brand options so its definately got no compromises.

From the last time it shit its self I sent it back and had it rebuilt to handle even more power. Funny thing is I'm running less power then last time. Now 450hp and the piece of shit clutch let go yet once again but this time it smashed the box clean off the block. I was changing from 2nd to 3rd. I should of learnt work's the first time it let go. Now I will use what I know works. Hks or os or a orc so I don't have to pay labour to remove the gear box and pay for a new box and clutch because some price of shit clutch can't handle half of what it is built for. Buyers be warned. And customer service is f**ked when you send them back. They try anything to get out of it

was this the NPC 10inch ceramic button sprung clutch? I'm having one installed in my GTR today (380awkw) - I hope to God that I don't have the issues that happened to you. I guess I'll find out soon enough lol

I have that clutch, no problems at all

Not as much power as you but

Can I ask why you didnt go for a twin plate NPC?

basically I just wanted a quick swap over clutch so I didnt have to leave my car at a shop for a week or two while my OS Giken twin plate gets rebuilt. I was told this clutch can handle 600hp at the wheels - so I thought I would try it (cost were much cheaper than the NPC twin). At worst I can always get the OS Giken reinstalled (after rebuilt) if I'm not happy with the NPC 10" ceramic button sprung clutch.

I'll do a review on the NPC 10" ceramic button sprung clutch after I run it in - will post it on this website. Hopefully my pressure plate won't explode.

Ah fair enough

Not sure if theres any difference between the GTR and GTST clutches, but mine has a lighter pedal feel than my old exedy cushion button, isnt to much worse to live with every day (takes a little while to get used to but not so bad)

Bites damn hard, and has never slipped for me once. Going strong for over a year now.

I dunno what else to say about it lol

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
