Victorian SuperSprint Championship

Round 1: Sandown, Sunday, April 4, 2010

For the first time in Victoria, car club members with a CAMS L2S (or superior) who attend the track days organised by their club or other CAMS affiliated clubs have an opportunity to compete for the tile of ‘Victorian Champion’ either ‘outright’ or in a particular ‘Category’ or ‘Class’. There are up to 93 trophies to be won!

Who can enter? The Victorian SuperSprint Championship is open to anyone who holds a CAMS L2S (or superior) and is a member of a CAMS affiliated club.

What car can I bring? Just enter the car you normally use at your club track day. Everything from the 'daily driver' through to the dedicated Race Car is eligible for a trophy in this event.

The Championship will be decided over three rounds. To win the Championship or a particular Category or Class you will need to compete in at least two Championship Rounds and in most cases three. Championship Rounds will be held at Sandown, Phillip Island and Winton.

When is the first round? The first Championship Round will be held at Sandown on Sunday, April 4, 2010. Entries are open NOW.

Where can I find out more? The Victorian SuperSprint Championship has its own website which will tell you all you need to know about the Championship and it’s where you will be able to download all the documents you’ll need to enter. To go to the website, simply ‘click’ on the link below:

NOISE BAN BEFORE 9am

As many cars are driven to the circuit a complete ban on running engines is not possible.

As all cars will comply with the 75Decibel circuit pass rule, the following will apply:

Before 9am Race Engines Must NOT be warmed up or tested. Engines at absolute minimum revs will be permitted. Absolute minimum revs may be used to unload from trailers - if required. When parking cars should stay clear of the western fence (the roadway bounding houses) and face cars exhausts towards the track.

Any blatant abuse of this allowance will see a complete ban on engines and ALL competitors will have to push cars from the entry gate until 9am. Self Regulation is in your best interest. Officials will report offenders to the Stewards. A report may result in an offender being excluded from competition

though the standard class is allowing r-comp tyres? so i can just go out and buy a new set of AO50 or RE55s for each round?

yeah for sure....and no doubt the most serious guys will have new tyres each round....if not the series is not competitive enough

It was run and won on the weekend, plenty of skylines in the mix according to the results: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results..../2010.SAN.S20.Y

Sam Markov won in in his BMW, 1.16.6

JFK 2nd 1.16.8

Tony Avramides 4th 1.19.7

Michael Rice 6th 1.21.9

Jeff Beable (targa) 7th 1.22.8

Neil de Pau (Neil) 8th 1.23.5

David Tinworth 12th 1.24.8

Kevin Galvin 14th 1.25.1

Robert Marshall 15th 1.25.19

John Richardson 19th 1.26.8

Mark Hawkins (haw001) 20th 1.27.2

sorry not sure if the other guys are on the forum....but a great turn up from nissans/datsuns which were by far the most common make there.

well done neil in a good run considering its the first time he's seen the track outside the xbox. And of course congrats to JFK and Sam who were absolute miles ahead and very competitive with each other. Also good to see Mark's car last the day as a test for targa in 4 weeks

ya i got the email as well. looks like some fun.

It was a great day out (my first time to Sandown). Love the track.

I saw from your video's you were doing ~200kph (how accurate is that thing you use???) on my VBOX3i the blue RX7 was doing 210.78kmh.... funniest thing I saw all day was the race spec Mustang struggling to pass the quiet stock road car down the straights.

Well done on a top 10 finsh Neil, First time on a track is pretty nerve wracking.

How many sessions did you get in?

Thanks again for bringing my front bar down with you

I had an absolute bloody ball. Duncan YOU need to do Sandown.

Those 2 massive long straights coupled with the twisties in between was so much fun.

I just couldn't workout out my braking points. The front straight has large bumps in the braking zone which in hindsight I should have braked later to miss them and the back straight,,,well I need bigger balls and just keep the right planted longer.

The rest of the track is just a barrel of laughs,,,deep in and great fun out.

The right hander coming onto the back straight would rate as one of my favorites corners.

Not one car went over the db limit so that was great not even the rotors,,,I was very nervous.

Tek,,,not a problem mate. We did 2x supersprints (1-3-1) and 2 over 10 minutes sessions.

Bring on P/I I say.

Cheers

    • I have always resisted the urge to go silly. 8" wide wheels and street friendly spring rates? Check. (Let's not talk about the steadily increasing spread of spherical joints across my suspension!!) Stock turbo, run at 12 psi? Check. Lasted for ?10 years before it died. Highflow put on rather than seizing the opportunity to go G45. You don't need 300 rwkW, let alone the more massive numbers that seem to be essential these days, to have a car that is already way too powerful and fast for a streeter. ~250rwkW is fine. I've never exceeded 200, although I will sneak up above it if and when I manage to get my finger out and do what needs to be done to use the highflow's capacity. You don't need $10k worth of CF bits glued onto the outside. You don't need razor sharp ankle cutting front splitters. You don't need the car to be 2" off the ground. You don't need flawless paint, mirror finished wheels, brand new indicator lenses, etc etc. All these things just make the car impractical and will cause you pain when they get damaged, which is inevitable for a street car. A few nice additions are good. Good seats are good. A nice stereo is good. A/C is good! (46° on the road yesterday and my A/C is degassed again. Was moderately traumatic driving home!) The main reason I stick with a mildly modified old Skyline is that I have had it for  >25 years, the mods are the rolling result of 25 years of things dying and being upgraded opportunistically, coupled with a few "just 'coz" ones. And I hate modern almost all cars. If I was a young buck starting out now.... I wouldn't bother. Cars have a few years left where there is any possibility of interest or fun. Thereafter there will be no such thing allowed or possible. Any time, money and effort spent now on a project would just be a waste.
    • Let's be wary though, if cranking is so far off, what else isn't set right? Are the dead times set right, voltage compensation etc?   It definitely sounds like it's cranking fuel issues, and holding flat to the floor is shutting them down, but I'm with Duncan that if nothing was changed in the ECU at all, and then this started, I'd be more thinking a leaking injector.   Do as Duncan said, drop the oil and make sure it's not full of fuel.
    • It actually means give it less throttle.
    • Yeah if the goal is to drive something then modifying a car is a bad idea.
    • Wowee! She looks like a major handful out there Pete!
