Definitely getting anybody who drives my car to hand me their license so I can take down all details and then I will be accompanying them.

Definitely lesson learnt!

7k on a solicitor shakes head

I had one working for me for 18 months with a specialist report that cost 800 and the whole bill was only $1500 and i paid it off at $50 a week into there trust account

Good to see you wont be losing your license. Lesson learnt i guess. Id hate to be the next guy who test drives your car :)

When I (foolishly) had the Stagea up for sale, I drove the car each and everytime for the test drives. Sorry, but until you've handed the cash over, its still my car and my responsibility. I had a many guys on the phone sounding dodgy ... so I avoided them.

I would never let a potential buyer take the car for a drive without me in it ... even with showing his licence/ID to me, and even if he left a deposit ... no way. With all the car jackings, joy riders, ram raiders, bank robberies, and auto bonfires going on, its automotive suicide!

I follow the same policy. Writeoff was surprised when I said I'd take the car after only having been a passenger - I could tell that the car was mean with him driving, and I wasn't about to take it for a joyride and crash the bugger without having insurance in my name (its a very small chance but I wasn't gonna risk it)... first time I drove the car was to drop him off at his place after he delivered the car to me (after the funds had cleared)

Mine charged a flat rate of $1500, then extra $750(ish) per court visit plus travel time, fuel costs for him to get there and back.

If the case went to trial, which was the next step had I continued to contest, the rate goes up to $1000 per court visit.

The $7k mark came around pretty quick :)

At least he got me the best possible result for a guilty plea which he thought to be unlikely seeing as we'd "wasted the courts time" with the contesting.

I didnt drive my R32 when I looked at it, bought it from only sitting in the passenger seat.

I bought it when I was a P plater and 18 years old, it sat in my garage for a while before I even drove it because I was scared I would break it (true story) haha.

Didnt test drive mine either, saw the GTR badge and the colour and went yep, im buying that.. My sister wanted me to buy a stock as a rock 33 GTS's just cos it had a sunroof haha.. I think i made the right choice :P

Also, ALWAYS go with them.. Just think, you may not have gotten the car back at all..

I didnt even test drive my car or heard it run or nothing, just had an auction sheet and a couple small unclear photos. :D

Thats the same story for me Vu......saw the car online and went yup getting that lol

bought my latest car unseen and in a town 8 hours away - its a pearler!

sold my boonga and i sat in the back while they test drove it - little did i know but my mrs was handeling a case where they were in deep shizzim (crazies) - they were ok to me though

got $500 off them in the end so all not lost (spent the whole time in the back thinking "dont blow up now, dont blow up now")

and i couldn't take licenses because HE HAD NONE lol

was going to be a spin around the block but i did get worried after 10 MINS!

Poor judgment of character on my behalf, combine with thats just how I've always done it and always had it done with me when buying/selling a car :P

I did not know that, crazy! lol

Hence why I'm worried :P

Yeah, I guess all I can do is fill out the forms and see what comes of it...

I just thought there might be some kind of evidence I could possible use to prove I wasn't driving at the time???

I don't know.... *sigh*

lol easy fix dude.... with the speeding fine you have an option to recieve a photo of the speeding driver... ask for both of them and show the JP that it isnt you.... lmfao asif no one thought of this one?

if they sped past a roadside car mounted camera, they will have a photo of the back of your head, same goes with a traffic light permanently mounted camera.

NO IT DOES NOT YOU ARE WRONG, i've had 2 speeding tickets both from red light perm cameras and they take a clear front shot of your face. Who the hell said it takes the back of your head? have you seen the news where the guy repeatly drove pass red light cameras wearing animal masks so the police couldnt prove it was him.It was on the news not too long ago.. Speeding cameras take photos of the FRONT NOT THE BACK get it right.

geez man, got a bee in your bonnet? If they got done by a roadside mounted camera, which seems likely for someone test driving a car around the suburbs, explain to me how the camera, that is behind them, can get a photo of their face? Take a deep breath before you answer.

    • I swear at my GKTech ones every time I have to take them apart and replace a spherical. But I wouldn't swap them for anything else. They absolutely slay every other option, at least in terms of how they actually work. You sure you don't want to live with bearings? I mean, they don't have "ball bearings". They are rod ends and sphericals throughout. Tough as nuts, even though I have found more than one way to wear them out.
    • From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
    • Yeah - but it's not actually that easy. There are limits for HC, CO, NOx and particulates. Particulates shouldn't be a concern in any petrol engine unless trying to comply to the very latest Euro standard. But getting a tune right so that all the others stay within limits AT THE SAME TIME is not a trivial exercise. You couldn't possibly get it right by just guessing at the tuner's dyno, unless he had a 4 gas analyser up the pipe, which is not often the case these days. It used to be. Every decent shop that did "tune ups" (as opposed to tuning) would have a 4 gas analsyer. Perhaps there's still quite a few of them around these days. But most "tuners" are only watching O2 and power readings.
    • Slight segway but the most expensive part of the whole thing which I would have thought would only be required for an engine size/type swap, not a VIV test, is emissions testing.  That's when you get into the big bucks.  I can't remember the exact price now but I got quotes for the GT-R based on swapping to RB30 (not that anyone bothers doing it legally anymore...) and it was around $4500 just for that alone.  The guy that does them manipulates the tune on the vehicle to make sure it passes.  The cheaper option is to book into Kangan Batman Tafe (I think that's where it was) and hire their tester.  Allegedly you're not allowed in there with the car though so not in a position to tweak anything to make sure the vehicle passes.  I'm sure in this day and age of ultra tuneable ECU's you could get the tuner to program a special efficiency (clean) tune that emits the lowest amount of particulates possible that would pass the test.  It might only make 50kW's but as long as it passed who cares!
    • I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
