That and those that have never driven one, and with very little driving knowledge or experience saying how easy the R35 is to drive.

My answer to the 'its so easy to drive no wonder its quick' line is 'serves you right for driving crap' :)

LOL, unless its a POS rwd car with 3 pedals, with no power and even less grip then in my eyes its just not a real mans car. :)

I will join the line of people saying that driving an R35 is like brushing your teeth with an electric tooth brush, sure you are kind of doing the work. But "AAA" batteries are doing the real work for you :)

So, when do i fly in to SA and you get to prove me wrong by giving me the keys for a few hours :)

I suspect the negative comments are coming from people who are envious of either the pace of the car, your technical ability to mod it or your financial ability to play with a 160k car.

LOL, i am stuck in Singapore where an R35 cost almost twice as much....plus people paint R35s pink with black roofs here. Seriously, the owner must have thought it was an S13 drift car :).

My 175k will be getting spent on strippers, booz and road trips, the rest i will squander on a TVR. :) Like i said, scaring yourself in a POS 3 pedal car that isnt quick is sometimes more fun :)

Rant aside, I am genuinely amazed by the pace of R35s when piloted properly. Awesome to see

....

The Willall GTR was missing the passenger seat and rear seat squab to allow harness mounting for the driver

The Willall GTR runs minimal power modifications, standard turbochargers, just full exhaust and a tune on pump fuel (E85)

The Willall GTR was running factory specification Dunlop RSST SP600 Run Flats on factory rims.

- Rice Cooker please turn off the angry eyes on this. I am a big fan of the RX7s, and have been for years, however if you were to place the cars I commented in a CAMS Motor Racing category for which they would be legal it is indeed Sports Sedan. These (or at least one I looked at) are structurally modified widebody cars that are neither Production nor Improved Production eligible at least at a quick glance. This is not an insult or a put down, they are a great yardstick, and very quick -

c'mon Martin, unless you car is running 2x 24mm intake restrictors it is not IPRA spec, and unless it is running factory boost it's not Production spec. Therefore I'm willing to bet yours is a sports sedan too :)

Its great to see an r35 winning any event, but there's no need to talk down the money and development in this car compared to the privateer club cars you were running against.

No, its a road car, complete with registration, functioning climate control, 6 stacker, nav and all the other fruit :)

Thats why it drives to events and then races on its factory road tyres then drives home :)

Not a sports sedan then really is it :)

The only talking down going on in here is of our efforts. I have been racing a long time and know to always respect the achievements of others :)

This is the cross the GTR owners has to bear, and nothing has changed in 20 years :)

Never shit on a persons genuine efforts. If it bags them a win then awesome for them. But there are plenty of talented, intelligent and hard working people spannering ...err V8s crammed into crappy MGBs who i resepct out of this world... I respect the effort as well as the achievement :)

Talking down the mods and it being a street car on std tyres etc ??? To me that takes away from your achievements. Something makes it several seconds quicker then std and thats what you deserve credit for. Otherwise what you are telling us is that you are taking a std car to a track day and wiping the floor, thats an achievement for Nissan engineers not the owner or mecahnic on this particular car. There is no achievement if its all too easy .... which it isnt, it cant be. Doing those lap times is impresive stuff for a whole bunch of reasons :)

PS, not saying you were shitting or dismissing anyones efforts, i am just hung over (slowly getting better as i am back on teh bottle) waiting for the F1 to kick off

Thats the way Roy :)

Its all too easy to get on the Internet and talk down others achievements. Its how the whole system works, but it doesnt make it right.

We have always respected the cars, efforts, and achievements of others, particularly those we compete against. Thats the key to being successful and understanding how to get the most out of your own package. We still have a long way to go with developing the R35 and we have some - very - big news in the pipeline. Stay tuned :)

Woah slow down, who said technical? I said technological news, i.e. Willall's product developments for the R35...this probably explains why you don't pick up on the sales rep tone. You may not care but it is a bit unfair to the traders who regularly support the website in exchange for talkng their products on the forums :)

I know exactly what Willall does and marketing campaign spin or not, I will probably never buy an R35, but its great to hear its whooping everyone in such an early stage of aftermarket life.

Sounds like your mod hat needs to come off a little :)

No doubt the admin team are and have looked into Martin's threads before, have any been removed in regards to his R35 development? I am intrigued to see what the rest of the mod team think :)

Well actually it has been brought up before and there was an admin who felt the same way, with another admin who felt differently :)

Except that would be the class it raced in - if it were racing - the same point you made. The RX7 has plastic overfenders, yes, but the wheels would fit under stock guards (just) anyway... They are only 10s. Some blokes who go out to turn laps on a budget start with cheap race only cars, simply because they are usually 1/3 of the price of road registerable versions.

Anyway the cheap, old RX7 does well with some great driving and a simple (untuned) set up to be only fractions of a second off the R35 this time out. :) And FDs had victories of their own in Production Car series against far more expensive cars in the 1990s, so they can hardly be placed in the same catagory as the V8 whingers.

The R35 is a nicer, newer thing, obviously a technological powerhouse... Its benefits are indisputable. Oh and we can't forget the WR35XYZ parts fitted to it! :P These posts remind me of your advertisement-type posts in the trader section on LS1.com.au, Martin. :)

Ahh now you are speaking :P

Remember Slip, you can only talk about it if we didnt make it, or the Amway salesman, the guy that Attracts chicks with seminars, and the Ferrari fan will gang up and have me banned :P

P.S. I think WR35FS is sexier, but yes I am biased, and yes you are having it

WHat the F..k is going on here.

Where is all the negativity coming from !

FACTS:

1. We all love cars

2. We all LOVE driving/watching/hearing about cars been driven like they are meant to be driven - FAST

3. We are all males = testosterone = wanting to be the fastest/smartest/toughest whatever BUT thats what the track is for. This is an info sharing service SO if you dont have anything posative to contribute log off.

I own a 35 and love hearing all this sort of news. I dont care if it happens to come from someone affiliated with a workshop that is a. succesful b. helpful c. sells stuff I can aslo buy. ACTUALLY isnt that what these sorts of sites are all about.

If you smartarses have your way people like Martin might end up not posting on these forums because its all too easy to keep your head down and avoid the tall poppy sindrome the beer swilling small minded idiots this counrty is full of pride themselves on. Keep going guys lets stop progress !!

Actually unless I am mistaken, every negative comment has been from people who do not own an R35. So what is it to them in the first place. Again, correct me if I am wrong. :(

lWhat gives them the right is the fact that this is a forum. Own a gtr they may not but, they are all contributing members of skyline's australia and until the admin team fly an edict stating non 35 gtr owners are not allowed to post in the 35 section its fair game.

That said, I agree with the sentiments of most on here, I enjoy reading martin's exploits and achievments with the 35. The forum would be poorer without his contribution.

    • From there, as the manual says....assembly is the reverse of disassembly, no tricks worth mentioning Much better (for me)
    • In my case, the standard wheel I had was in good condition but the buttons had more wear, so I swapped them across from the original wheel from the car. The plastic rear cover is held on by 4 tabs, and once the wiring is removed you can get access to 2 screws on each side the hold the buttons in From there I just swapped the wiring over. What was interesting is the standard style wheel is 2.0kg but the carbon fibre one is 50% heavier at 2.9kg. It even has a weight inside the wheel at the top to make up for some sort of imbalance in the design. weird
    • Once the airbag is off, to remove the steering wheel.... Undo the 2 plugs into the clock spring, and the horn connector from it's clip. Hit the 19mm nut with a rattle gun (preferably) or if you don't' have one, you probably want an assistant to hold the wheel in place while you use a breaker bar to undo the nut Then, screw the nut back on 3 turns, and pull the wheel sharply towards you. If that doesn't work hit it medium force with a rubber mallet on either side, or possible behind if you can get there. If that all fails (it shouldn't!) you might need a steering wheel puller
    • So, to next task....the carbon fibre steering wheel was either an expensive factory option or a chinesium special. Either way, I don't like either the flat bottom or thick ring style, so it had to go So...to remove the steering wheel.... First, disconnect battery negative and stomp on the brake pedal for a few seconds. Then, remove the small circular covers on each side of the wheel's rear surround to uncover the airbag clips. You need to push something like a flat bladed screw driver through, to push the steel clip inwards and pull the side of the airbag forward. Once you've done the easy side, same on the centre console side. You can see the tab you are shooting for circled in red Then, disconnect the horn spade connector and for the yellow airbag plug you need to get something small under the black locking tab to pop it out, then the connector releases......airbag is off
