My R34 gtt has recently started missfiring and all three lights come on, TCS, SLIP, Engine. It has happended rarely a few times over the past 2 months, but pulling over and turning it off then on would fix it. But driving home yesterday, it suddenly started missing and no power, lights on, tryed to turn off and on, 5x over 20 minutes and would just turn on sounding like a sick wrx. Finnally got it to go and taken it home. After many searching it could be afew things. Ive got the engine bay open and the coilpacks look to be the original items, how do i tell if they are the problem? Also how do i locate and clean the AFM??

The car has done 86,000km. Also where is the best place to get spark plugs/coilpacks, Is there a certain way to test tehm before blowing alot of cash?

Thanks

Look closely for any pit or scorch marks around the perimeter of each coil

Once one breaks down, others do too, usually in quick succession

Check the wiring whilst you're at it to see if they've gone hard & plugs too

Replacement coils are easily available depending on where you are - such as from Just Jap etc

ie Yellow Jacket, Splitfire etc

Assuming you are running a stock setup. get the plugs from the Nissan dealership - platinum type.

I got my coil packs from eBay brand new - Splitfire brand - Just ensure you are getting ones designed for R34 RB25de/t NEO

if you want to put new plugs in to see if that is the issue don't waste money on platinums. in fact even if you just want to replace them, don't waste money on platinums. you can get a full set of copper plugs from autobarn or repco, etc for about the same price as 1 platinum (or iridium) plug. the NGK part number is BCPR6ES.

however i would more than likely say that you coilpacks are shot.

ok, well i'll be picking up the NGK sparks this arvo, but took off coil 2, and there was quite alot of dark gunky looking stuff around the area on the block. some deposits on the bottom of the coil aswel... is this indicating dead plugs or dead coils? or both? I cant get the plugs out till this arvo...

Thinking of ordering Yellow Jackets from

http://www.performance-wise.com/

I have EXACTLY the same problem.. my thread here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Tr...49#entry5083749 Most people said the coilpacks.

Make sure you post back and let us know how you go, I'll be watching with interest

ok got the coilpacks from http://www.performance-wise.com/ (free plug for excellent service!)

new sparks NGK BCPR6ES (1ml gap) as recommended above...

Now the old spark plugs were quite messy, with deposits all over about 3 of them...

Turned the car on, all 3 lights on...but the car is sounding greats... quick spin was driving fine.

I was thinking maybe i need to reset the ecu???

Anyway ill post back tommorow for you after my daily drive on how it performs

In response to Shell...

1 of the coil packs were faulty.

Car now has 6 new yellowjackets and 6 new spark plugs, idles smooth and no engine light.

They were purchused from performance-wise, excellent service and friendly aftersales. i definitly reccomend them!

Hopefullt you sort out your cars issues soon
