it varies. the 245 & 275 x 18s I had on the Supra were very quiet, but the 215/45x17s on my Legnum were noisey as hell. The Leggie wore the fronts pretty hard on the inside edge too, so the noise was probably alignment related.

they did 15,000km and probably 8-10 track days on the Supra and the fronts were still going strong. Rears were down to TWI.

:P Thanks for that, I'd be looking at 17x8 so a 225/235x45x17 on an R34GTT which dosen't get flog and I don't like WW3 going on with my tyres, I have read that the KU31 is quiet so that might be the go. I'm running Nexen 225x45 at the moment and they aint to bad just a bit squirmy at times.

i wouldnt go bigger than a 225/45 kumho on an 8 inch wide wheel. they seem to run a pretty wide mould, look fairly big on an 8, and fit on a 9 with the barest angle on the sidewalls.
