Jet Powered Van

Hey guys just reading Zoom magazine Issie #73 Page 10 there is a Jet Powered HiAce Van Here's what was said:

''Here at Zoom HQ, we get the occasional nut bug calling up, telling us of insane conversions that they have either heared about or carried out.

So it stands to reason that we are sometimes a little hard to impress. Knowing this, imagine our response when we got a call from Custom Exhaust Specialists in QLD, claiming they were in the final stages of fitting a 6000hp jet engine into a HiAce Van.

More than a little sceptical, we just had to see it with our own eyes.

If you know your psychos, then it is no suprise that stunt man Robbie Bolger is behind this insane conversion.

Now from what we could find out, the Rolls Royce 500-series engine is capable of 3300lbs of thrust, which is the equivalent of 6000hp, and should be capable of propelling the van to a theoretical top speed of 400MPH.

If the afterburner is used correctly (not just belching flames), power is said to double. Keep an eye out for a full feature once this is completed.''

Unfortunatly, my scanner isnt working right now damnit, but when it is i will scan the article, if you've got this magazine issue it's on page 10 top left hand corner, anyway i've gotten some pictures of the engine (not from the one in the HiAce). I belive it is called the ''Trent 500'' (Search @ Rolls Royce website)

Cutaway:

Rolls Royce:

''The Trent 500 has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the new four-engined Airbus A340-500 and -600. With an initial take-off thrust of 56,000 lb, the Trent 500 will provide reliable and economic power for this generation of A340 aircraft.''

As you can see this HiAce will probably beat most cars. :P Anyone want to do this to a Skyline ?? :)

I seen this in the mag as well, done by calweel or ces racing a name like that down in melb.

From the looks to me, they will have problems if they are having the engine that close to people, I'll just say, it's going to be a little hot 5 inches away from you, and I think it's too far in the van.

The back of the jet engine is at the half way mark inside of it can anyone say "bob's cooked, ere ya go kids..." or "hey the back of the van is melting away for some reason...?"

The van is finished.. It has the rolls royce jet enine in it. It was built and installed at ces brisbane, not melbourne. The van is more a demo vehicle than a speed machine. Is very intersting. Robbie is very mad driving that thing. He offered me a ride in it, but i refused.... im not dieing this young i said!

Did anyone here the story of the guy in the states who did this to an old chev or something similar. Then took it for a blat out on one of the open desert roads. They found him 300 feet above the ground smashed into a rock face. The only way they could identify him were by a few teeth that they found.
