Then there's those (more than likely not in this case) that regardless want to do the wrong thing and get involved with shady types usually because of self esteem issues and the feeling they get of belonging.

I know of at least 2, that have come from good families with the right values/morals but persist in seeking the company of violent, abusive criminals and there's nothing no-one can say or do to change it either, believe me we've tried!

Pardon me for being cynical. But there's one thing that puzzled me about the story. Firstly you say she was coached into going by friends, sure, not that unbelievable. But if she was coached into going there and truly unhappy there why wouldn't she tell you everything that happened? (Or your sister?) People who don't talk have something to hide. I know we all like to think that the people we know wouldn't do certain things, but young people are curious about drugs and sex, is it really that hard to imagine that she didn't want to go?

I'm glad that she's at the very least safe... and look, I don't know you, or your niece, but that's just my observation.

My niece is a shy girl, who had a tough upbringing. She was mauled by a dog at the age of 18 months, and witnessed her mum being abused by her father (her father is no longer in the picture, he was given the arse long ago). So she is very timid, and therefore easily subjected to peer pressure. She went along with friends to 'friends of friends' and got put in an environment she didn't know how to get out of. Thats what has happened in this case.

She hasn't told us everything that has happened, because she fears violence ... and she knows we will not be happy with what she has to say. I'm going into it no further than that. She is home safe, and she will tell us when she is ready to.

And on the topic of "dragging kids out of class" ... that was done thru the school principal.
