hello every one.I have recently discovered that my stoko turbo has shat an oil seal.I am in the process of removing it and i have all intercooler piping out of the way.

I need help with the following

-where do i disconnect the dump pipe at the turbo or where it bolts onto the main exhaust (300mm away from turbo)

-what is the best method for removing the oil and water lines how do i get to the rear oil or water line right next to the exhaust manifold

-do i remove the exhaust manifold or just unbolt turbo from it

-when i pull water and oil lines off will i need to plug them up or will they not leak

-Are there any gaskets i need

-Any other information that may help me with the removal and installation of new turbo

Thanks in advance for anyone contributing any info,as you could probably tell i am planning to get the job done myself and have decided removing and rebuilding and high flowing original turbo,i know lots of people will disagree and suggest putting monster turbos and manifolds on but unfortunately this is the budget i am on, and have heard positive info from some reliable turbo re builders in bris.

I did this recently myself, bolting up my new turbo :D

where do i disconnect the dump pipe at the turbo or where it bolts onto the main exhaust (300mm away from turbo)

Unbolt it at the rear of the turbo, where the dump pipe bolts on.

what is the best method for removing the oil and water lines how do i get to the rear oil or water line right next to the exhaust manifold

I just used a 24mm (I think) spanner. It's FAR easier to get at it from beneath the car, get it on a hoist if you can. As for the other lines, they just unbolt.

do i remove the exhaust manifold or just unbolt turbo from it

Just unbolt the turbo from the exhaust manifold. There are four bolts, I think they're 17mm from memory.

when i pull water and oil lines off will i need to plug them up or will they not leak

They will leak, but don't worry about plugging them up unless you're worried about making a mess. Just top up afterwards.

Are there any gaskets i need

You may have one between the turbo and the dump pipe. The one between the turbo and the exhaust manifold should be OK to reuse. If the top oil feed on your turbo has the two-bolt connection and you undo it (you don't need to) then you'll need another gasket in there. It's advisable to replace the nylon bushes around each of the fittings into the turbo too.

Any other information that may help me with the removal and installation of new turbo

You should be able to find a bit more info in my other thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=30556

You'll have a fair bit of trouble finding someone who stocks gaskets - Nissan doesn't list anything, Holden only list a flange gasket. Repco/Autobarn/Walkers don't have listings for them at all.

What I ended up doing was getting some asbestos extractor gasket material and cutting my own gaskets, but I believe this is illegal to sell as of new years', so you may have to resort to gasket goo.

qik, see you at Drag Combat :D

nissan have everything for any skyline , u have to go to a dealer that deals with imports , not all of them do .

there are several dealers in sydney that do though .

shoe dgo to hornsby nissan they will help u , if they dont have in autralia they will order from japan about 1-2 weeks ( no charge for freight either .

if u r closer to parramatta go there but their spare parts is in rosehill .

turbo is off now took me 1 1/2 hrs gasket from turbo to dump pipe in good condition. The head was off the car about 5 months ago so most studs and gaskets are fresh. The only prob i had was unbolting water line that sits between turbo and engine but i left it till last as it was hard to get to and slightly kinked it but its fixed now.The turbo is now at Turbo Torque (used them before on my vl turbo and they were very affordable and dont add on extra costs ).Hopefully have it back in a week and then bolt it up and off we go.

Does anyone know if there is an air bleed screw in the cooling system on r33's.

Also is there a process to bolting back on that involves priming oil into turbo or any thing little that needs doing prior to starting the engine.

thanks again

just spoke to rob at turbo torque .The turbo will be highflowed both compressor to t3 and exhaust. The skyline turbo is non repairable so he is using parts off a vlk turbo then high flowing to t03/t04 for $1450.

the new turbo will give 20-25% hp increase.

Just for intrest brisbane turbo and tuning quote 2100

Just incase you haven't found any gaskets yet, you can get them from GCG in sydney. They have a 3 gasket kit for 40 bucks that includes the t3 flange gasket, dump gasket and oil drain gasket.

They do mail order stuff too i think

If you got it off then you shouldn't have problems getting it back on.

The only problem i had was the core was rotated very slightly, less then a degree, which made it a bit difficult to get the banjo bolts started. Other than that it was a piece of cake

sorry for jacking the thread qikr33 have you fitted on ur turbo back yet?

cause Im also about to attempt to bolt on a turbo back exhaust

Are there any more gaskets on the exhaust besides the one between the dump and the turbo?

am I right to assume that the you need to replace that gasket once you remove the stock dump pipe?

sorry lukits havnt bolted back on yet will do it on friday so i am not sure what gaskets i nedd. There is a steel gasket that i removed between turbo and dump pipe and i can surely re use this one as for the seal between turbo and manifold i cant remember but i will have a look for you and post again a little later.

well its been almost a week and a half and i got the turbo back(will post pics soon). It all bolted together,i found that where it bolts onto exhaust manifold it had a steel gasket so i re-used it with some manifold cement as assurance of a good seal. The sam went for where it bolts onto exhaust manifold it also had a steel gasket.

Only dramas were finding new copper washers for the banjo bolts...only place i found that had them was lewis hoses (slacks creek near moss st) cost me $3

before i started the car i pulled the fuel pump fuse from the boot and cranked the engine over for about 30 sec to get the oil up to the turbo(as it said to do with the card that came with it.)Took it for a drive and it takes a few revs to spool this baby up but then when it hits 10 psi it really has some get up.I need a new bov as the stoko one isnt letting enough air out now between changes and sometimes you get a fluttering noise.Started raining so i couldnt put the boost up any more but will be as soon as it stops but definitly more lag and hopefully more power.

i will post more stats up when i get a chance to thrash it a bit more.

    • I know this thread is quite old, but I found it, it helped me, but I also wanted to add my experience and troubleshooting finds to the chat for others. I have not been able to open the rear hatch of my 97 Stagea for several months. Figured it had just really sealed itself up over the winter and I would just get to it eventually. Well that day was yesterday. Some time ago, I noticed my battery was going flat all the time. It was frustrating. Then one quiet night in the garage, I could hear and ever so slight humming / grinding noise coming from the back of the car. It was like a really quiet popping sound or something like sand in a very low speed blender. I took off the panels in the back and noticed the noise coming from the auto close motor, so I unplugged it and the noise stopped. And the auto close was disabled. Well, fast forward to yesterday, I tried all the tricks with power and fuse and lock and unlock and I still could open the damn hatch. So I took off the panels from the inside and found the auto lock had engaged and was stuck in close position. When plugging and unplugging the fuse, I could hear the relay clicking. So I plugged the autoclose motor back in, and the damn thing let go. And immediately started making that grinding sound again. This time, instead of just unplugging the motor, I pulled the fuse, thus depowering the relay entirely. I don't have the autoclose feature now, but at least I can open the boot and not have my battery being sucked dead all the time. Not sure what caused the motor to latch when it was unplugged from the system, but I am pretty sure it won't cause any more problems now.  If anyone has a lead on a new motor, please let me know. It's a cool feature that I would like to get back.  Hope this helps.
    • Lolololol maybe, man I hate this car. Lapsed judgement a respray and a new motor, when I should have just scrapped the lot when I had the chance. Farken.
    • So you reckon a few sweety something's whispered in her window and she'll behave for me? 馃槢
    • One of the first things i do when i buy a car is to change the in cabin filter, because no one ever does. There seems to be conflicting statements on the internet, does anyone know if a 97 r33 actually has one?
    • Thankyou! I'll add a pic of my Z for good measure! 馃槢
