Hi guys

I have a r32 gtr and am having problems with the car not being able to rev or produce power intermitedly. The car will run fine all good then the exhaust temp light comes on and the car will only idle and sometimes die. If i turn the car off then start it again sometimes the problem fixes and the car will run fine for 15mins then the prob comes back. The car has been progresivly getting worse, Im hoping its a just a sensor that needs replacing. The car has a power fc big single with all supporting mods etc

Just wondering if anyone has had a problem like this before?

any help suggestions would be really appreciated

cheers

Brendan

sounds like you might have a collapsed cat converter. try checking that :(

My EGT sensor regularly earths on the chassis causing the light to come on. - It was being stubborn when I 'replaced' the cat, so just cut it and poked it inside cabin til i can be bothered with it. I'm running a power fc but haven't had any engine opertaion issues.

The cat temp sensor indicator is just thermal switch in the cat housing, hooked up to an idiot light on the dash.. doesn't affect the operation of the engine at all. So, if operation is being affected, it would be good to assume that the cat is overheating, ie blocked..

I had this prob with my r32 rb20det, it started after my fuel filter on my pump got blocked.(someone sealed the pump in with sillicone and it melted into the tank) When the cat light came on and id try to accelreate and it would die. turnd it off, then started it again and it was fine for ages!! if i kept the fuel filter clean it would be fine so put it down to the engine leaning out from starvation and running hoter.

and i also had a hi flo cat and i thort maybe the sensor was in a different spot than standard causing it to heat up differently. I dunno. my sorta came good after cleanen the pump filter!

hey guys thanks for the replys

Drifta1600 sounds like a similar prob to what you had so ill def check it out.

The car has been outside now for 45mins at idle with no probs so ill take it out for a spin tonight see if i get any diferent readings on the sensor check on the power fc. Im off overseas for a week on thursday so might have to wait till then!!

cheers

    • I believe there was a similar one posted by @duggyphresh. They were re-routing their battery positive cable in the way I am also trying to achieve. Sorry, I’m new to this forum, so was a bit late to the party by a few months and so reignited the old thread, as I wanted to know how they got on with doing it.
    • Wasn't there a thread on this very subject just a few weeks ago?
    • Hi all! Looking to relocate the battery to the trunk of an R34 GTT. I want to do it using as many stock GTR components as I can (including the harness protectors from the 34 GTR that run underneath along the chassis to the engine bay). So far I’ve purchased the battery tray from a 33 GTR, as the captive weld nuts are already there just asking to be used. There is also the slight issue of now having to relocate the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU, which in GTT’s sits right above where the battery will then sit on the tray. Has anyone already achieved this, and if you have any pics that you wouldn’t mind sharing? It would be great to see how others have done it and where you put them, as there are countless holes in the parcel shelf panel to potentially use. Just trying to get some ideas bounced around, and to help uncover any potential problems I may encounter by  my choice of location. TIA for any help!
    • Brand was ard.   I also threw a brand new battery at it and beefed up the wire from the alternator to battery and added an extra earthing point from the battery
