So not to overcomplicate one thread for people who may search these later I thought I should keep this subject separate.

Also while I have my interior stripped I am going to get the windows retinted as I have a damaged rear demister from the last mob that did it (I will name them if I'm allowed to!).

Specifically they somehow managed to cut all but about 2 or 3 of the bars, so I am going to have to get the tinting steam removed first, repair the damage to the demister & then when I am satisfied it's fixed, have the windows retinted.

I also need this done due to scrape marks on the door windows & the drivers door glass having been replaced.

Anyhow from reading I've done, there appears to be 2 places that are the go for re-tint, Autoperfection & Tint a Car.

Tint a car appears to be the only one that sells Bolle tinting from what I have seen so far & they are asking a significant premium for it ($50 more than their next best & at least 100 more than Autoperfections best product).

The big claim to fame with the Bolle tinting was that it is rated to reflect 90% of heat, where as all others are all only about 70%, which is a 2/3rd reduction, so quite significant. Has anyone on here tried the Bolle Tint and able to give a reasonable opinion on it? I am quite curious about this, but not sure if it's worth the extra coin.

Cheers

we use pretty dark stuff for our surveillance vehicles and have found the old grey stuff was the best (and cheapest).

The new reflective stuff (like Bolle) can distort images and colours when wearing polaroid glasses and is hopeless to film through, not because of how dark it is but due to the material they use.

well all i can say is AutoPerfection is a club sponsor

and has done many many members cars to which i only heard like 2 complaints how it wasn't completed on time due to parcel shelves

This is actually encouraging, I'd rather have to wait around another hour, for them to do the job properly than get a shit job done on time. This will be the cars third lot of tint so I want it to be right!

Hmmm funnily enough I wear polaroids, Bolle's no less! Almost sounds like the tinting itself is polarised, which would help explan such issues. Face 2 polarised surfaces 90 degrees from each other & all you will see absolutely nothing through them.

so where is place to get this tint ay? used on surveillance vehicles.. or pm number contact details..

we got our cars done at tint a car (5 all up and we got a wicked discount saved over $120 per car for the bolle tint) the only issue that i had with the bolle (before i got it done) was that you had 2 choices a blue tinge or green tinge and having a black car both would have looked silly so i ended up getting the midnight one.

The bolle tint doesnt distort images when wearing polarised glasses its crystal clear. if you want a black tint go for something other than bolle.

Blue tint would look alright on a Red car to me. Was more on about the durability & effectiveness of the tint itself.

The only reason I will be going to Tint-A-Car is for this tint, didn't really think much of their customer service when I called them.

The guys at Autoperfection when I called where friendlier & more helpful that way. Only thing is I haven't become a club member yet to get the discount.... Do need to do something about that.

you'll be immediately defected if you use our tint.......some cops tend to go easier on us by producing our licences.

yeah, you'll need to produce your membership card

Steve there's no law against anyone asking for a discount, from any establishment, and they're not obligated to us in the refusal of any such discount either.

However, we probably need to train our sponsors better so as they only give the discounts to members displaying a card.....that responsibility falls back on us, the exec.

As for my mates race cars, they're AMG C63 setup for production racing. The original is what has just been stripped and a brand new shell built. The original is then going away to have some panels straightened, then it will be put back together again. Then there's a third that will shortly head off to have a roll cage put in, then build it up too. And potentially a fourth to be built too... Oh, and he has two Renault Clio D class production cars, ha ha. And when he's not racing them in the Australians and QLD production championships, he's been racing one of Chaz Mostert's Lamborghini's in GT4. They just won GT4 at the 12 hour in the Lambo. We're pushing to finish the new AMG as it has its first round (and potentially its first shakedown/outing) in under w weeks for Round one of QPC, and that round is really the shakedown to make sure it's all good for the Bathurst 6 hour, which I'll be at too. Ha ha ha Working on my project is different to his, I slowly tinker and work ways to make things happen on a shoe string budget. Hes in a good position that he has a massive workshop full of parts and tools, ha ha. He also looks after me. When his air compressor died, he just needed it working, so bought himself a new one and gave the old to me. Sand blaster unit too, and a 20t pressing. And pretty much all the shelving in my shed too as he upgraded all of his (the stuff he gave me is the expensive black Bunnings heavy duty stuff)!   I enjoy working on his stuff. No decision paralysis, and anything that's needed parts wise is just there. Plus, then I get to be hands on at the track in real racing, not just club day stuff.

    • Yeah mate, no probs. Just swap the email addresses?
    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
