Hi everyone ,

I am new to skylines having owned a 93 180sx for the past couple of years and I am soon trading up to a late model low km sII r33 gtst . I have a couple of basic questions about gtst mods that hopefully someone will be able to help me with .

1. What kind of turbo is on the sII r33 gtst ? I know its a ceramic turbo and can only handle about 12psi but what turbo is it ? t28 variation ?

2. What flange pattern does it have and what are good bolt on replacements for it ? Whats the biggest/most powerful turbo that can bolt up ?

3. Whats the limit of internals in terms of maximum hp and what type of bolt on upgrades would you recommend to match that ?

Thanks heaps !

the turbo is basically a t28 with a t3 flange.

you can get your turbo rebuilt to make 450 hp.

the limit of your internals is determined by the skill of your tune if you have detonation it will blow.

to get big power you will need progamable engine mangment like powerfc or micro tech.

bigger injectors and z32 afm, bigger fuel pump stronger clutch intercooler upgradeetc.

you need to decided where you want to go for power.

ie how fast how many hp cause you can make your car up to 6-700 hp . or you might be happy with 300 hp all are achivable

Meggs,

I think he just wants to know how far he can go with bolt-on go fast bits without touching injectors or internals..

So what turbo could 'bolt on' without needing a manifold, and would have the most effective power increase without needing new internals...? most likely including using stock fuel system

So basically.. to get the most effective power with bolt on goodies, without tampering with the insides of the engine would be. (no particular order)

- New Turbo

- New Exhaust (3 - 3.5" dumped from turbo)

- Pod Filter

- New Intercooler ( Large Frount Mount - maybe an old GTR Cooler)

- New Clutch

- Some sort of plug and play fuel system.. if your on a budget.. an SAFC, can play a good role in fuel ratios... but if you want to spend about another 1000 go the powerfc, or some other sort of plugin fuel system.

This sort of setup should be good for over 200rwkw(r33) when tuned correctly.

Id say this would be close to the limit on stock internals and fuel system..

Of course.. MUCH more can be done to get crazy power as meggala was saying in his post.. its up to you, your budget, and your underpants.

Thanks guys ,

This was my initial setup :

Some sort of bolt on turbo on the factory manifold OR custom manifold in original low mount position

600x300x75 hybrid devalopments FMIC ( i already own it but I have heard good things about this cooler so I think I will keep it)

pod filter

3 in exhast from turbo back

powerfc

nismo 550cc injectors

some sort of in tank replacement fuel pump

HD clutch and a machined and lightened flywheel

thats probably about it .

So this would be good for 200rwkw or 300 flywheel kw ? And internals would cope ?

The question still remains though , what turbo to get to support this kind of setup . Garret gt28 or maybe a hks gt2540 ? would these bolt up , I think they were t28 style flange but I have seen them advertised as bolt on r33 upgrades ?

thanks !

yeah the hks is fine there are so many options you really need to decided for your self if you are going injectors etc I would seriously think about getting a metal head gasket they with an hks 2540 you could see 240-250 rwkw

or even the gt series of turbo's from garret ie the gt 30's.

gt2540 is bolt on, apart from a few bits of rubber pipe.

Don't machine and lighten the factory cast iron flywheel go buy a chrome molly light one. The lightening of cast iron flywheels is dangerous and crap (ie: can't get it as light as an aftermarket one).

the greddy e-manage is cheaper than the PFC, you can spend the money else where.

On the cheap ----> (200rwkw+) with the 2540 or T3/4(about $1200 for hybrid), stock injectors, bosch pump ,malpassi reg, afc, exhaust , filter, ic sized for this power so it is efficient or if you go to the drags (boost for 13 or less seconds at a time) use the stock ic and save more money.
