Replacing A 3/4 Window

hi

im replacing a 3/4 window on my car. ive managed to remove the old window without too much hassle, now im onto installing the window.

the problem is there is still some sealant residue left over when i was taking out the old window. is it possible to use sealent on top of other sealant, or do i have to remove the old stuff?
