Hi guys,

The wife and I just bought a Stagea, very impressed.... we love it, however, it can drink fuel. My S15 got to Sydney on half a tank the Stagea used about 3 quarters and its a bigger tank. Could be my wifes driving though.... although when I drove it I noticed at 100km/h the slightest depression of the accelerator means boost.

Impressed though... so much more refined than the Silvia, especially now that my wife bent my Trust Titanium exhaust.

welcome to the stagea world. +1 for the Pics.

On the fuel side, yes they can use some fuel but don't forget you are getting around in a 1.8 tonne car now. They should get 10L/100km on the highway though.

Cheers

Andy

Welcome!

As with the other guys, pics please.

As for fuel economy... there are a few things you can "bolt on" to help with highway economy, but I am sure you will get to that.

For the mean time, try accelerating to 10kph above the speed you want to travel at then gently ease off the pedal so it slows gradually.

Hold at the speed you want and you should see better economy figures. (Yes, it does make a difference :()

YES! I just bought one recently and found the exact same thing! Around 100km/h, push the pedal down about 5mm, nothing, then slightly more and she comes on boost real strong and not in a linear fashion. Feels like all 10psi of boost just comes at you. I've driven other turbo cars and haven't found it to be like that... however they didn't have ball bearing ceramic turbo's which may explain it.

It could probably be fixed If the wastegate opening was mapped against injector duty cycle as opposed to boost pressure, resulting in some extra fuel economy. What do you guys reckon?

jaycar iebc will do this

also has 2 maps, so you can have 2 different ramp on rates or 2 different boost levels

I have found that a runner spacer will help with with highway cruising as it will let you accelerate using that first 5mm without boost (won't be as rapidly of course). Will also be easier to hold your gear and speed :(

Yeah I was checking out your runner spacer iamhe77, looks like a pretty good idea! So obviously this boost behavior is normal for the M35 Stageas?

I think I'll definitely go the boost controller as well, because mapping against injector duty cycle seems to make way more sense and should give a nice linear feeling and of course the added bonus of quicker spool up times.

Sounds good, I have just started driving it in manual mode a bit, works well. We have already got plenty of compliments on it, from the amount of people that think it looks good you would think that Nissan should have sent them to dealers.

Got it pink slipped today and was told the tint was illegal so I took it elsewhere!!! They found a leak in the steering rack (they said very minor, but still something to keep checking Damn it!) My high mount brake light is out so I need to fix that and it needed a wheel alignment. At least they didn't come out and tell me I should sell it quickly!

Pics shortly, however, I think you all would have seen it on the internet before I bought it.

Pretty happy.

Oh on a side note my exhaust on the Silvia - need new cat and dump pipe as well as a bit of bending to my Trust exhaust $$$$

Congrats on the buy.

Keen to see some pictures of it. Where did you end up buying it from?

I was looking at an Axis, but ended up settling for a 250t RS Four. To many dodgy places scared me lol

Scary places!!! I agree, to be honest I havent made it to an import dealer that I have ever really felt secure in dealing with. This is the second car I have bought through ALL Imports and the other one has been going good for two years or so now.

The S15 is great, I had an S13 as my first car.

I was reading about fixing the high mount stop light.... It was all a bit Japanese to me lol. Something about cutting through the plastic and soldering--- yeah not me, dont know anything about that stuff.

If I gave these instructions to someone (auto electrician) would they know what it means?

Haha, I believe thats one of the cars I was looking at.

Silver is it? I took it for a drive and everything, and was reasonably happy with it, but got swayed away with some advice from some informed locals

just be thankful they didn't offer to remove this "tint" for you...they may have run into some difficulty...its known as "privacy glass" and is pretty common on European cars these days, as well as japanese estate cars (obviously).

+1 on using manual mode to lock it in 5th at 100km/h (or anything over 80km/h if you're doing a long trip). Makes the throttle less sensitive so the torque converter stays locked up for longer. When in D, the torque converter unlocks at the slightest press of the throttle, meaning you are straight onto boost. Probably still a good idea to let it boost when going up steep hills etc though...

Boost is the enemy of fuel economy and a look at your AFR (air/fuel ratio) graph on a dyno sheet will explain why...

Interesting - I owned 2 S13 silvias before getting my first stagea. I'm now onto my second stagea and chances are it wont be my last (a PM35 would make a nice upgrade in a few years time).

Here are some pics, let me know if you cant open them and sorry if they are in poor taste but it kinda suited. As for the wheels, I liked the Autech versions, but at least these are easier to clean.

3pointJ --- Believe me both times I have bought off them I havent been at ease. As long as the car keeps me happy I will get over that uneasiness.
