painting dash plastics

i pulled my dash plastics off the other day so that i call paint them but i cant remove the cigarette lighter, does anybody know how to remove this? as it is far to big to simply push straight through tho hole

there should be 2 small plastic clips which holds the base of the ciggie lighter. get a small flathead screw driver and push it in.. the whole thing should slide off.

also remember the base of the ciggie light has 2 peices. a larger black bit and the metal silver base. take the black bit off first then use the screw driver with the clips.

Can I just ask a couple Q's?

What is you plan to paint the dash panels? What colour are you going? Are you using a plastic primer? How are you removing the coating thats on the original panels?

you can just put some lip balm or something on the metal ring bit which i assume u dont want to paint.

then after the paint is dry just rub lip balm off and there wil be no paint on it...

just a thought if your having trouble take the lighter out.

I use metho to strip the plastic coating.

here's a few pic of mine with the plastics painted. as long as its preped properly it will come up sweet.

Metho hey. Will have to try that on a little panel. Didnt discolour the underlying plastic at all?

you're going to spray it anyway so there will be some discolouration involved.

i'll be using plastic primer, just sanded my panel as there was some added holes in there!

i'm moving my lighter, mirror controls, hazard button and demisters around to other locations! and putting guages in their locations, trying to limit defects!

Has anyone tried to wrap some fake woodgrain laminate to their consoles/panels? I am interested in doing this....

I bought my car with the centre consoles painted matt black but it's wearing out....sucks...looking for a more luxury feel..woodgrain wood look quite nice...

I think it would look weird....i drilled the lighter wit a circular bit and fitted an a/f ratio meter in its place it looks neet......then i remotely mounted my cigarete ligher down by the driver side centre console pannel hidden away on the inside. :jump:

you can get fake woodgrain trimming cut to shape for R33 consoles over the counter at some stores in japan... maybe Rezz can help you out.
