Alright, ive got a set of Nismo Lemans running on my 32, on my last tune the Lemans turbos made 130rwkw at 4500 rpm (this is when the power starts to come on hard, 130rwkw doesnt sound like much i know but by 6000rpm it makes 280rwkw), But for turbo Lag argument sake we'll start at 4500rpm.

compare that with the GT2530 which correct me if im wrong are just the HKS version of garret -5 and are still a resonably decent turbo. According to this graph i found which is based on engine KW's, the 2530s (-5s) make 200 engine kw, which would be what 150rwkw at most?

Now everyones goin to ask what mods i have and what mods the turbos on the graph have . I would assume that as the 2530s (or -5s) are making 601hp and their max combined output is 640ps, they're pretty much at the limit of what they can do and have the correct supporting mods. (dont forget the lemans are rated to 640ps as well so theres not goin to be any top end lost over the 2530's)

Meanwhile on my Lemans turbo set up, i made that power and ive got only a 3 1/2 exhaust with 3 inch dumps with a rubbish set off front pipes, while still running standard cam gears and cams.

I really dont think the lemans are as rubbish as everyone makes them out to be, a bit laggy yes but still a heap of fun. Im sure someone is goin to try shoot me down but meh

will try and get a before and after graph of when i do have front pipes and cam/cam gears instaled... will be soon

BTW if u want -5s GCG do them for about 2 grand if i remember correctly.. dunno if they come with actuators though

cheers

for perspective, at 4500rpm my gt-ss is at 235rwkw and 285rwkw at 6000rpm at 17psi

bahaha

knew it wouldnt take long for someone to have a chop

A chop? What are you - 15?

Just look @ the results mate. They speak for themselves.

Took me only a couple pages to find some -5s results with RPM (to make it easy)

230rwkw @ 4700rpm

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=303940

~280-300 @ hubs, 4700rpm.

So take 30kw off if you want, and that’s around 250rwkw (admittadly its got a bit more work the result #1)

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e50/sleeprgtr/dyno.jpg

518s = 140rwkw @ 4500rpm as you said.

-5s = 230rwkw @ 4700rpm (easiest to work off the graphs once you look at them you'll see why)

For an extra $1000 you get almost 100rwkw extra @ virtually the same RPM.

Speaks for itself really. The lemans turbos are every bit as bad as people say they are.

Na sorry mate, bit older then 15

Need to be at least 20 these days to drive a performance car

you'll actually notice in my first post that i admitted they are a bit laggy, and never tried to say they were better then -5s

Pretty much just posted up some of my own figures with some comparisons

Point is the original thread starter now has a better idea of what turbos he/she wants and why instead of just buying turbos because some bloke behind a keybourd told them to

Post your dyno sheet in the dyno thread

Anyways, Thanks, I will go with -5 then.

Pretty sure he had a good idea then.

Although, he actually ended up with Garrett -9s I believe, same as BWRGTR :D

So smaller/more responsive again than the -5s!

i will post back to backs.... the lemans feel terrible on the street and the comparo on the same dyno with the same ramp rate also shows how average they really are. (will post tonight)

    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
    • yeah, there's a country that recently started importing Skylines, I blame them.
    • I don't have a printer, but could at least attempt to make a printable model.
