Hey everyone I was on the way to work

and a truck pulled in front of me so I put the foot down to overtake it and I noticed

boost spike kicked in :s I was only half foot nd boost hit around 11-13 psi (as soon as I saw it

I backed off)

no bang no knocks nothing I didn't rev the car for a while for it to bulid boost but later I took of from the lights and around 3000 rpm I can at least hear a little bov but there was nothing ...

Look at the guage and it's not building and pressure

is the turbo goneskies ??

Cheers everyone

you wont get any bangs or knocks even at that amount of boost mate as i have been running 14.4psi on my stock rb20det hoping it would kill the turbo but 8 monthes later its still going so dont freak out over a couple of boost spikes.check all lines associated with the turbo i.e turbo charge in/out lines or if u have a boost controller also check all lines to this for splits and melting if thats all good maybe a faulty boost controller as my old bleed tap type did this.my ruff rule of thumb - lots of smoke mass loss in power =blown turbo. - not making boost properly or spiking = dodgy boost controller or installed wrong ect ect. -wacko idle and wont rev properly = mass air leak ie cooler piping ect.just my rule of thumb maybe not what others would do but thats just my opinion.hope it helps a little mate and good luck.

Can you hear any unusual noises when under load (ie when the turbo would normally be creating boost)? If you have any hissing/screeching noises you may have a boost leak.

Check all your intercooler pipes for loose clamps/ splits or blown hoses.

If you are getting 'bov' noise it is unlikely your turbine wheel has fallen off, so I would be looking at a boost leak first, then checking to see if your internal wastegate flap is stuck open.

If all that fails, unbolt the cat and look for ceramic!
