Any Electrical, Computer Or Mechatronic Engineers In The House?

Alrighty guys...

I need some help... (In more ways then one! ) I'm attempting to do some coding, on a micro... Using a webcam as an input. I want to beable to capture, and then compress on the fly video from it, and shove it on some sort of storage device (Probably looking at using HDDs, most likely laptop sata drives)

If someone around here has any clue of what i'm talking about, some pointers in the right direction, as at the moment, I'm sitting in the dark...

I've only ever played with micros on the small scale, and I understand this is extremely complex shit... LOL

So if people can please help, it would be much appreciated!
