Just heard on radio coming into work this morning - (I live in Canberra)

AFP announced beginning of 5 day Nats blitz. They are already setup on the Federal Highway coming into Canberra.

"Targetting NOISE" specifically and other "motor vehicle guidelines specific to ACT" - but well you know - anything they can snoop around and find probably - plus the usual "mobile phones, drink driving, seatbelts"

Just thought I would let you all know poeple....

Take care and have heaps of FUN at the NATS - look out for Canberra plated Skylines and say hi to us locals!!!!!!!

:(

Ok - its now getting serious.

A friend works out at Eaglehawk - just beyond ACT border into NS. He just contacted me. Says there is now anything between 30 to 40 cop cars out at border (just inside ACT)

Cars are getting stopped and inspected all over the place------------------

BAs, SSs, unmarked and marked pursuit cars

:goddam:

One lane was/is closed down speed limit goes from 110/80/60/40 - within seconds -

If you speed and try and get away - there is NOWHERE to go

Stay safe people --------------------------

They did the same in '03... blocked the Hwy into Canberra and pulled over any sus cars. They tested how loud my exhaust was (back then it was a 3" Cat-back with 2 mufflers and a 4" tip). I got away with it fine after they got me to rev the car about 4 or 5 times trying to get me haha.

I think the only thing they could -really- get me for now is the FMIC because its not engineered.

Hrmm do I risk it and take my r33 down park it on fri nite and then drive home again on sat nite hrmm. Or just go down n back on Saturday.

Yepp, be careful people.

In the last few days I've seen a noticable increase in the amount of police cars around the place.

Play safe and don't do anything illegal while your here, otherwise they will pounce on you quicker than ever.

ACT police are pretty good though, just be polite and you shouldn't have any problems.

DIRTY F*****N DOGS!!

I may be going up with a mate, but he was lucky enough to hire an XTRAIL and he is trailoring his car, but theres possibly 2 more car loads coming up who will without a doubt get done!!

Good looking out Canberra boys! :)

Cheers

You can be defected interstate, as whilst youre in that state you have to comply by their rules and regulations (so ive been told).

If you get defected, when you go home you must get the defect for that state cleared (theres authorised inspection stations for each state in every city) or else they will fine you.

Im not 100% sure on the above, but am 98% sure thats how it works (when some friends got defected in nsw with act rego).

but he was lucky enough to hire an XTRAIL and he is trailoring his car

It doesn't matter whether it is on a trailor or if he is driving it. If they can "see it" they can inspect/defect it.

I just got word from a reliable source "on the inside" down there that as of 4am tomorrow a crew will be inspecting "everything that opens and shuts".

Welp their goes my Summernats, if I go i get defected and if I dont then I miss out (can't get any other transport).

Pity...

Just saw all on the local news. Yep - one lane closed down - cops are waiting like a RBT unit and just flagging down for inspection every single car they want to

----------

trying to think of another way in for ya all but don't think there is-----------------

oh and the thanks canberra 'boys' should read thanks canberra 'people', as the 'ette' implies I am a female!

:-)

I get the feeling the pollies do not want the 'honour' of hosting the Summernats in their fair territory...

T.

I'm not sure if it's that, but in previous years the RTA and police have made it very clear that if your car isn't legal and you not going to play by the rules (eg. do burnouts in Braddon) that they will come down hard on you.

The pollies realise that summernats brings a HEAP of money to Canberra. Almost every hotel/motel/pub will be booked out over the summernats period.

But I can see that the government will be making a heap of money out of it in fines and defects too !! :P

J

bloody sucks - it brings so much money into canberra in that few days it is mindblowing -----------------

Nats organisers were also on tele tonite - talked about the ?7 I think it was fulltime people they employ and the 200 part-timers that get work not to mention all the security guards they employ-----------------

Look if I hear ANYTHING I will let you know -

My Skyline is modded and I was going to go out cruising, but am thinking of just laying real low for a few days. As it was I drove home REAL careful this afternoon.....

    • Speaking of diverting threads, my second ever NISMO purchase…. I think they look pretty classy and just wanted to share 😅   PS: 1st was the oil drain plug 😂
    • R12 has not been not available for....decades now. Propane is not a great replacement. (I mean, it's a great replacement, but it is a bit too flammable). R134a being the only way to go forward with an R12 system. The design pressures etc, are close enough to R12's to work. The ability to move heat around is close enough to R12's to work.
    • Out of curiosity, what's the reason for converting? I think @R3N3 might have the Frenchy's kit in the R33? I somehow think of you as the ambassador for realistic and clean street-driven setups nowadays
    • careful when running the car after a boil over. Ive heard you can lose enough coolant that it won't show the right temps because of too much air in the system (or something like that). Make sure the levels are good before trying again.  Maybe a mobile mechanic can come have a look with their scan tool ?
    • OK, just for some extra clarity - there is more than one option at Frenchy's. 1. You can buy the whole kit - with or without the actual compressor. The whole kit includes mounts, hoses, condensor, etc. That's either ~$2200 or ~$2800. No surgery required with this option. 2. You can buy just the bracket (~$600), or the bracket with the compressor (~$1200). Either of this or the above option "without the compressor" is if you already have an Echo comp or you are able to source one locally. Whatever the case, in this option, you will need surgery done on your hoses to adapt to the new compressor. When I said "the Frenchy's kit", I meant the whole kit in option 1. It is obviously somewhat more $$ than a $1500 OEM compressor. But if I had to spend $1500 on an OEM compressor, I would certainly consider spending double that to renew and significantly update everything forward of the firewall. Another option is to rebuild your original compressor. My R34 comp is currently dead and I will be most likely doing that to it if the spare one in the shed is also leaky.
