hi all questions about adjustable cam gears. I know you get what you pay for in the end but is it nessary to pay the $300 per gear for say hks, tomei ect is there cheaper alternatives that you guys havent had any problems with. I just dont see the point in spending the money on the big brand names where there are as good for cheaper. Now i dont like the idea of only 3 small allan key bolts holding the adjustment on the cam gears so i am after anything really with the 5 locking bolts chears

For Peace of Mind...I always use a well known/Proven Brand...Trust, Tomei, Toda, HKS there all around the $450-500mark for a set (IN/EX)

As you should know If they stuff up so does your head etc etc....

TODA is always my choice

sorry I have to disagree with that - slipping adjustable gear would not move far enough for pistons to hit valves, they only allow a few degrees, not enough to hit.

I know of 2 people that it has happened to running China Crap Gears...

Although Might have other factors such as belt jumping a tooth, but on inspection the gears slipped a fair amount, And yes they were installed by a Reputable Workshop.

But i am sure alot of people are running the cheaper gears without ever having a problem.

Duncan i bet your heart stopped...

Scott im sure jjr ones wont have a problem if there installed correctly. But if your trying to compare them to the jap brands.. They suck lol

lol aint that the truth! I've been running JJR on the race car for years with no issues (other than user error lol)

also have run the tomei ones and found no difference.

actually....one thing.

I don't trust the degree markings on *any* cam gear, china or not.

ie don't read the internet and just set them to exhaust +4, intake -2 or whatever.

you *must* dial them in for your exact setup. so expect to spend some dyno time trying different settings otherwise you are wasting your money
