Hi all,

First of all great forum really informative! Anyway im finally off my P plates (Melbourne) and im selling my mitsubishi FTO and heading over to buy a skyline. I went and checked out a couple today at some place JAPCARs in fawkner JSA etc..

Anyway iv researched thouroughly about both these cars but i cant decide which one! so i thought i would grab your input guys....

1999-2000 R34 25GT-T Manual Full Nismo BodyKit w/sunroof for roughly 20k

1997 R33 GTR Vspec Series II-III Stock as a rock Manual for 22k

Both of these cars are from car dealerships. After researching and searching on your forums isee that both engines are really strong (bulletproof) and only problem is coilpacks. How about servicing on these cars and anything else i should know? What would you guys buy?

Budget is 23k :P

Thankyou

Salemf!

Sorry about the tripple post dono why it hapened

R33 GTR Series III but if the R34 is in far superior condition with less Ks I would go for the R34.

So it all depends on the small things but if they are simply both in decent condition I would go for the R33 GTR Series III hands down.

I'm saying that and I have a real soft spot for 2 door manual R34s with sexy Nismo kits lol

Everyone has a different opinion and it really depends what you want from your car.

Who wouldn't go for the GTR?! Respect as soon as they see the GTR badge. :P

I would have to say that the GTR would probably be more expensive to run(even my GTS25T is a bit of a money bucket, but I spare no expense in servicing it). I don't have a GTR, but I would assume so, because it's a performance car. My uncle also said never to get an AWD car cause of the cost of running them, but I wouldn't care tbh.

How many km's for both cars?

^^ Don't worry man!

Ppl say about it's turbo, AWD, import and all this other rubbish to make you not buy it.

Harden the fuck up!

It's a performance car and expect to spend money.

As long as you service it regularly and fix what ever needs fixing, the car will keep going and leave you no hassles.

Go the GTR and you won't look back.

Second that. :P

dont buy from jsa

i bought my car from jap cars in fawkner and dennis is a top guy to deal with.

i would probably go the gtr over the gtt but it really depends on what u want from the car

if it is a daily i would go the gtt they are a little cheaper to run but at the end of the day if something breaks in either ur up for a bit of cash

good luck in ur search and post some pics when u get one for sure

Good rep from Jap Cars in Fawkner.

JSA... *Runs away*

Japcar !!! Can't go wrong with them. I bought mine from Dennis at Japcar.

I had a look at a few GTRs at JSA but wasn't happy with the car and

people who work there and the way they were pushing me into buying

their cars.

+1 on buying GTR.

Pumped factory guard beats any body kits !

I would be a little concerned that the GTR seems a little low priced. Why is it low priced ? what sort of k's on it ? General condition etc

Yeah, for a dealership it should be a bit higher. I checked redbook.com.au and they say

* Private Price Guide $19,100 - $22,300

On carsales.com.au people are selling normal 97 GTR's for heaps more...

u sure the gtr is a series 3? does it hav the red stitch interior? xenon lights?

if not its a series 2, sounds like a fair price...get it compression tested !

cant go wrong with a GTR, be patient and buy the right one, dont rush things like this

yeh your right mate i will get it compression tested when i go to check it out again! i haveto admit though i do love the R34 as well but..

I went through this a while ago and went the 34 I probably would have bought a 33 GTR if I did less driving, but the way I see it is if your gonna do lots of K's its not worth the hassles of maintaing a GTR.

That said I haven't owned one so i am going on what I have heard of upkeep being a little higher, I guess you would look after a GTR better as well so more $$$ per Kms because you'd care for it more....

+1 for Japcars I got my 34 there in top condition and I came from Interstate to get it o.O

Whatever you choose make sure you get any car inspected by a good mechanic even if its in a yard it will save alot of money in the long run.

Just my thoughts.

cheers buddy:) can you if you dont mind telling me how much you paid for your 34? what came with features year extras etc...how much he came down in price etc...

Well the whole lot including flights cost me around 19k that included rego and transfers, it is a 34 GTT Manual about 90,000 on the clock, few minor blemishes, but hey its 12 years old so in good nick for that.

Had all features except sunroof and the premium speakers, I specifically did not want a sunroof as I am 6'4 and the sound system is getting turfed because its jap, it had a stock body kit.

I personally did not want any mods on it or body kits, so stock as a rock, interior was excellent and the thing was pretty good.

Only issue was a scrape under the car which the inspection people missed and I could not see until it got up a hoist so it needs a new exhaust.

I was really happy with the service there and the car was what it was presented as.

This is not true.

GTR's are definately not bulletproof. Many of them have had a hard life and as a result will quite happily blow turbos and if pushed blow engines also, in which case you will be up for $8k+ for a full rebuild.

GTS-T's and GT-T's have less things to go wrong and the rb20's and 25's are quite strong and will take a fair bit of abuse however they can also blow turbo's but there is only one to replace.

I think you should do some more reading on this forum before you buy. Many people compare r34 gt-t's to r32/r33 gtr's (there are many other threads on this). Just know that if you get a bad GTR it will cost you a packet!!
