Hi guys and girls,

Got a bit of a problem have put a rb20det into a 4 door 32 but have come across a bit of a problem. I have fuel and I have spark but the injectors aren't pulsing and I have replaced CAS to see if that was the problem but it hasn't changed. The motor cranks and wants to start I even sprayed Start Ya Bastard into the throttle body and it started to run but wouldn't continue to idle just ran back to cranking.

What could it be???? I've looked around and its said to change CAS but it still hasn't helped.

Your help will be appreciated.

Ta,

Kails

what was in the car before the 20 went in? stock ecu and wiring on the 20?

Yea engine, ecu and loom came out of my 32 2 door (it was a stock engine, loom and ecu) it got transplanted into a 180 never wired in just sat there and then have gone from the 180 to the 32 4 door so unless maybe its been sitting for a while and injectors have seized or something?????

No injector pulse still sounds like CAS issues.

Are you 100% sure it was the right CAS?

i've got a couple of spare ones so might try another and see if it works just unsure if there could be any other problems it could be

:S

If you have spark, then presumably the CAS is working correctly.

As I asked in the other copy of this thread (!!!!!):

Have you got power (+12V) at the injectors? Did you have the injectors cleaned before you installed the engine.

with all the engine swapping its possible the power to the injectors hasn't been rewired.

you can either check the injectors for 12v positive power at the injector plug itself or at the ecu. do you have a RB20 ecu pinout? they are easy enough to find if you don't. at the ecu check pin 109 has 12v (positive), you can also check that pins 107, 108, 116 on the ecu are grounded (negative).

    • From the pictures I have when doing the job the flywheel is the same diameter, I don't think they're playing weird tricks like putting weights at the outer diameter to increase flywheel inertia or anything like that. The OEM flywheel is definitely heavier, but it's not a huge difference. Quoted weight savings of the clutch is 2 kg so I can't imagine the flywheel being lighter than ~7 kg. Kind of regret not weighing it before the clutch went into the car but as far as driveability goes I have no complaints.
    • HKS trigger kit should be very easy to integrate with a Link. It's a 36-2 crank trigger. Hard part is finding the motivation to take off the timing belt and everything on the front of the engine to install it. You also need to cut out a hole in the oil pump housing so the sensor can read the trigger wheel. Changing out the cam sensor for a 24 tooth setup is probably good enough but as others have mentioned depending on what underlying assumptions are changed it becomes more of a problem. Reading the crank state off of the cam is an abstraction that works in the general case, but if you have an edge case it makes less and less sense. There is a GTX2860 gen 2 that can take a compact 5 bolt housing so it's direct bolt on but I'm not 100% sure of what's involved. Peak compressor efficiency drops off a bit on these turbos vs -5s, 77% vs 73% but you get way, way wider region of operation. The -5s have a really strange surge line in their compressor map that is all over the place. If you think the hot side on the -5s aren't open enough you can try the Tomei T550B turbos which a local tuner seems to be happy with:
