300ZX on an R31 GTS-X???

Guys I'm about to buy an R31 GTS-X and one I'm currently looking at has had the factory turbo replaced with one off a '90 300ZX (factory item).

Just wondering why someone would do this and what sort of effect it'd have, positive or negative?

I know I should've just asked him, but I'd like some unbiased opinion, cheers.

probably because the factory R31's turbo was screwed and he put on a cheap and available alternative (if its a straight bolt on, if not then i dont have a clue)

Arent '90 300ZXs twin turbo, and the VG30 turbo commonly used as an RB20 ugrade from the earlier model single turbo 300ZX. Suspicion if the turbo is off the VG30DETT then it may be a bit small...i think its best ask the cars owner, or the mechanic that installed it.

If the turbo is from the twin turbo model 300ZX, it will be way to small for a stock RB20. You will probably find the turbo is off A VG30. which was a 3lt motor utilising a single turbo
