That's just a vocal minority. If it were really the case our state government would have been voted out when Liberals offered up a 10% of the speed limit tolerance on speeding a couple of years back. Whether we agree with it or not, this is what Australia seems to want.

its 80% according to the sun today,

aside from that as said one policy wont win an election and unfortunatley liberals internal issues have made it hard to vote for them in the past, not to mention that your average moronic voter doesnt care enough to know the difference and voted out howard (federal i know) because they wanted something "different" forget the work he did over 10 years to get us were we are, and now its all hail kdudd cos he spent that money liberals took a decade to save.

we wont be singing the praise of labour governments for long, once average joe stops getting freebies they'll jump ship quick but then hate on liberals for raising taxes to fix labours mistakes.. circle of life mate.

lol, not really. Political policies are multi-faceted, what you suggest is absurd. A State Government does not win an election based on a single policy consideration alone, especially on something that is comparatively trivial.

Trivial? It's this kind of stuff that is being made out in this thread to be the end of our civil liberties lol. "I can't do a burnout - we need a constitution like the US!"

Political policies are multi faceted but your average voter isn't - when they see something they like they generally swing to it - political parties know this and play into it. That's why a government can be voted out based on a single policy-making mistake, e.g. *cough* AWA's. Given road rules and safety are one of the state government's major jurisdictions, I think policies relating to this are a drawing card for election popularity.

alr33x, that's what I meant by a vocal minority - the kind of people bitching about it are the kind of people who can be bothered writing to a newspaper and bitching about it. Newspaper opinion polls are worthless - not only do they rely on the target demographic of the newspaper reader, but the editor has the ultimate say over what letters make it to the page. The real results come from election votes. The only way to gauge this is to wait and see what the public demand leading up to an election and see how the parties respond in kind. If the winning party acknowledges in their campaign policies a need to loosen our stringent road laws, then I'll concede that a majority don't want things the way they are now. But for now the state government obviously don't recognise a need for this or they'd have addressed the issue instead of just telling Webber he's full of crap. For what it's worth I am typically a liberal voter too.

i think the major swing in "safe" labour seats at recent bi elections indicate how much trouble labour are in. i for one will be suprised if they win the next election, but the overwhelming suppor the government stimulus got doesnt instill much confidence in people ability to elect the right party over the popular party.

like who in their right mind hands out $1k to every man, dog, prisoner, oversease national and so on.. fkn joke.

and yes im bitter cos i didnt get it.

I got the stimulus but I wished that no one had got it. Phenomenal waste of money IMO.

I wouldn't have minded stimulus if it were implemented alot better than just "here's $900, do what you want with it".

But all that is talk for an ultra-long wasteland thread on politics. We're already bordering on an off topic liberal vs labour thread here

politics is too big and too long a topic to ever discuss i usually dont bother because very few people see eye to eye, and a lot of people preference is influenced simply via the silliest and most irrelevant things.

for some un known reason people rather take a mushroom approach to politics and ignore how significant a decision it is when it comes to voting, they all say "my vote wont make a difference" but in truth it does. spose ignorance is bliss in this country.

next VIC election someone should take out primetime ads to promote Cluey Voter

Let people pick what issues are relevant to them and their views and then suggest a member whose policies reflect theirs.

This state has gone to the dogs since Jeff Kennet was voted out in regards to with the new laws, rules and regulations impemented on a yearly basis one replacing the other taking all the enjoyment out of lives. I remember well when Jeff Kennet was voted out, one of the things he said was that Victoria will never be the same again, funnly enough it came true.

jeff kennet was one of the best things to happen to victoria, everyone had a go cos he cut jobs and spending here and there, but they all forgot he was forced to be cos a useless labour government handed him a state that was bankrupt. tough times call for tough decisions and tough leaders.

labour are great at setting up commissions and enquiries but get nothing done useless pack of twits.

I agree - there is also a mentality where everyone looks out for themselves and not necessarily the overall betterment of the country, electing a government respectively.

Yep, them illegal immigrants from south of the border are absolute elite. Can't forget the right to bear arms which has always ensured a healthy supply of guns into the hands of American school children liberals. Take the good with the bad Barbarian. America has alot of freedoms, but that doesn't make it a model society. They have alot of shit going down over there that I'm glad we don't have here.

Attracting third worlders has more to do with our location on the map and a rather weakly enforced immigration policy - within a supposedly over-regulated nation we have here. If you don't think America has its share of 3rd world immigration then I lay claim that you haven't seen much of America. Also, back here in Aus we have one of the most culturally and demographically diverse populations in the world - consisting of people from all over the world (I guess that includes yourself). I suppose the Asian high rollers who frequent Crown Casino are 3rd generation Aussie? I can't fathom how you miss out on the elites we have, not that we can't do without them...I don't see how the presence of social elitres dictates one society being better for everyone than another society?

It's obvious you enjoy a good troll Barbs. That's why I don't want to argue with you and shall stop at this. Everyone gave you your marching orders to Europe in the other thread. It was full of people who had lived overseas and returned to Australia, pointing out how much better it is here. So really Barbs, what is stopping you? Because right now I picture you walking the streets of Australia with a frown just staring in absolute lividity at everyone and everything around you, feeling that you're somewhat better. Go and prove it to them mate

Comparing apples with oranges much like your feeble attempt at bringing Hitler (LOLZZ) into the argument before. You're bouncing off the walls again.

Australia with a population of only 20 million with the most absurd laws known in the developed world is a laughing stock.. Considering the fact that US is one hell of a big ass nation not only geographically but also population wise 350 million and growing strong, they're doing well for them selves by having one of the most free and open society. They don't have absurd laws dictating their lives or governments ruling their people with a leash telling what they can and not do.

A more logical comparison would be Netherlands which has a simular population to us and we all have fair idea how they live.

People are no longer taking resposibility for themselves

You have got it no where near as bad as the U.K. trust me on that one

Like i said before i would fight tooth and nail for this country to keep all the pc bollox and do gooders to a minority so they dont f**k it up any more.

Im British and I actually find Britain offensive!!!! whats that tell you?????

I agree with you on this one. Kennet was good for Victoria, Labor seem to have a way of pissing away money on pointless projects (Myki, desal plant, fast rail project, Sugarloaf pipe and so on), I hope the Liberals win the next election, cut the over spending and hopefully stop the "nanny state" policies from being enacted.

We can only hope that whoever wins the next election does so by such a narrow margin that they can be voted out easily should their policies displease a decent amount of people. That would hopefully lessen the chance of bullshit laws being passed...

im not sure that the de sal plant is a waste of money.. some aspects of it seem exorbitant but overall given the 13 year drought it has merit.

True, its not a complete waste of money, but there are aspects to it that are a waste. Paying workers extremely high wages just to ensure the union does not strike and allows it to be built, not building another dam (one in Gippsland where it keeps flooding would have had a duel benefit) and the billing of people even if the dams are full and the plant isn't required seems a little harsh. I'm also sure that the price will blow out to something close to twice the price we've been quoted, as has happened on countless other government projects.

It will be nice to have it there when we need it, so I'm not opposed to it being built.

3 times the cost of a new dam on the Mitchell River.. and it's going to provide 1/3 the amount of water that such a damn would... that's 1/9th as meritorious. We are only in a 'drought' thanks to a string of inept State Govts being bullied into inaction by the Green Left. Consider that Melbourne has increased by millions of people since the last major dam was built in 1983... and you'll see that this desal plant is horribly insufficient

    • I believe mine is helical and not clutch type. During drifting one wheel was spining as if it was open diff so bought kazz 1.5 way and has sat on my shelf for the past 5 years as I want to learn shiming process and do it myself   in meantime thought I change the diff oil hence post here. So any 75-90?   i am pretty sure r34 are helical not clutch lsd as standard . That is gtt ones
    • Throw between gears are so much that is getting annoying. I have pro short shifter on my mx5 and e36 and love it . Skyline is getting unbearable    would syncro issues and short shifter is no no? Anyone mind explaining a little on why before i buy cube
    • No. Well, some people "seem to use redline shockproof in the diff". Most do not. I would only contemplate it if you have badly worn CW&P gears. And no. No-one in their right mind has ever put ATF into a diff. Any normal diff/gear oil of the right viscosity will do. Whatever takes your fancy. Castrol, Nulon, Penrite, Redline MT range. Whatever. It's just gears. 75W-90 or 80W-90 is typical. I think that GL-5 is hard to avoid these days, although I think that a GL-4 is probably preferred, given the vintage of the equipment. At least Redline offer a number of GL-4 oils. If you have a clutch type LSD instead of the VLSD, then of course you need a proper LSD oil. Anything from any of the same names above. If you have a helical LSD, then it does not require LSD oil, and the recco is the same as for the VLSD. You don't want the LSD friction modifiers in the oil for a non-clutch type LSD if you can avoid it.
    • You may want to list it up for a little higher - This price is much lower than you may realize. Here you're pretty much selling to people who most likely already have these things on their own rigs. S chassis people eat this stuff up like you'd not believe.
    • I had my car for over 10 years and done around few thousand miles but never changed the oil. thinking of changing it.   what brand and viscocity would you put in ? people seem to use redline shockproof in the diff   on  contraty seen others using atf dexron 2 or 3 so wanted to check. is it 1 liter?
