Hi Guys

i am looking into buying an R34 4 door, must be AWD and im tossing up between 1998 25GT non turbo or 2001 25GT (not sure about GT-X).

The reason being for the specifics is.

(a) 9 month old daughter so need sedan. :)

(b) figured its Cheaper on insurance than a Coupe

© still on p's :)

(d) have come up with major plans for a R34 4 door, to span a few years. (aka FULL GTR conversion once off the p's)

I have looked at a couple of websites to get Certain spec's however some contradict eachother.

(e) should i buy local/domestic ,or from Japan.

(f) i came across Garage Midnight (japanese) i want to know if they are legit? has anyone used them? they seem to usualy sell modded skylines, and on an enquiry they found a couple for me that have either gtr front kit and RB26 conversion or just the GTR Front. or just start with a stocker as i have a few cosmetic plans as below.

INTENDED PARTS LIST

Top Secret BNR34 GTR BONNET

Top Secret BNR34 Full Bodykit.

Rays Volk GT-F Rims

Change Tailights to Aftermarket LED GTR version

COLOR- Possible two tone

Skyblue (simular to Dominic Russo from autostyle's R34gtr) and metalic pearl Gold.

or Skyblue and pearl white

the purchase is a little while away however i want to plan ahead, makesure i ahev teh right vehicle for my intentions and gather a estimated budget to try and work on(dont see it happening).

the way i see it is its better to get the right model for the indended job than go out and buy the next one i see for sale on the street.

your help will be much appreciated

Cheers . Pureevil34

BUMP...? any ideas always welcome, people might think after reading the post that its yet another p, plater puttin dreams out there, but i have been gathering up bits n pieces for the project over the past few years, the only thing that set me back was being young and silly and not getting the licence as early as i should have. and now gotta pay with the damn new laws of having the p, restriction for less that 2 years. and the money factor.

Cheers.

What your looking for is the R34 GT4.. they are the awd.. however be aware that it is heavier than the RWD version..

i think its best to buy local.. you can find the car you're wanting, and can inspect in person.. however you might not get a large range of GT4's and will be limited on the choices you have..

you could always ask an importer for some specs and prices.. i would be looking at Iron Chef.. he's a member on here.. and is more than reliable.. will find you a decent car..

i don't think there is an aftermarket GTR version LED.. there is aftermarket LED that fit both GTR/GTT/GT.. however you are very limited when it comes to 4 door..

if you are looking to do a rear fender conversion to pump out the guards.. your talking lots of dollars there especially 4 door.. to do a 4 door rear into a 2 door rear your talking $2-3k+ easily i reckon.. to do a full 2 tone colour spray your talking easily 5-6k +

so why you wouldnt wait for a GTR and can end up with a similar result but be all better (despite 2 tone) is beyond me.. and yeah i can see everyone thinking that your dreaming.. if you actually did all that i would be surprised

thanks mate, for the info, yes a Genuine GTR would be nice however need a 4 door atm.

yeah i have been scouring car sales.com and a few other local advertising websites to see whats available, and trying to gather a list of importers to check out the deals.

in regards to the tailights i have thought of buying cheap secondhand lights from the wreckers/ebay or someplace both 4 door and 2 door versions, and give it a go at modifying the 4 door rear assembly if possible to nicely fit the 2 door LED's.

modifying the rear guards i realized would be expensive and am willing to do so as i have seen a fine example and looks a million bucks,

once the right r34 is found and bought the progress will be definately posted :-) to show it wasn't just a dream

Cheers and thanks again for your help gimps 34

I gotta admit that is 1 hot looking 4dr....

Too bad nissan didn't make R34 4drs like that off the production line.

But in regards to your question.

- AWD 4door models are quite rare in comparison to RWD models.

- Majority are auto (not sure if that matters to you - but best you should know).

- The auto trans is not a tiptronic.

- Insurance is not much different.

- best buy local - that way you can see it "in the flesh" - especially since most of the AWD models were from the snowy parts of Japan - You run the risk of getting a rusty car.

- In it's current state the car will be no rocket - but you will have plenty of grip and great handling.

- If your into wagons a Stagea "could" be a better option - you get an RB25DET and AWD :woot:

- When you do eventually transform it into a "GT-R" - be prepared to have the car out of action for a while and it may cost quite alot.

Good luck with it all.

mmmm love the wing, looks like a mines one.

sounds like quite the project u wanna undertake with it. just to let u know that i know a dude who has an r32 gtr and he has the baby seat thing in the back lolz.

so u dont really "need" a sedan haha.

but id also look at the stagea option as already mentioned

I have a similar thing but 32. Definately go for a manual if you want to gt-r it.

GL on the tail lights, has been done once and was a lot more work than close to justifying the effort :P.

Also in that picture I notice Autech. They did make production runs of 4-door GT-Rs for R33s.

With a Stagea you can have RB25DET RWD manual, RB25DET 4WD manual (both series 1) or in series 2 you get RB25DET NEO with triptronic auto and 4WD. Then you've got the 260RS's which are full 33gtr drivelines.

I highly rate Stageas and I don't even have a family! Excellent practical daily driver that responds to mods just like skylines do and eats up the miles on long trips, love it.

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
