have you seen this with your own eyes? im a real mechanic, im not pretending or making things up, im telling you that i have never seen melted valves on a modern engine,a warped head or det caused by fitting a silencer in the exhaust,maybe you think you know more than you do? after all you dont know what you dont know

Not by fitting a silencer, no. There won't be a problem. Plenty have done it before, plenty will continue to do so.

However fitting a silencer and then going for a fang like this bloke is talking about?

Just because you've not seen it, nor i, does not mean it's not possible.

One can only theorise sometimes because you wouldn't legitimately think anyone would be silly enough to plant the foot with restrictors in...

finally,the 95mm ecv on my car now. this really make some different, but when it fully close, i don't think i can drive it for long time. so i only close it when i see cop:) but when it fully open the exhause noise and power just like before, full boost no problem.

i asked some mechanis about back pressure damage, they told me, the back pressure = heat, if too much back pressure = too much heat. so if the exhaust temp not that high that mean no problem. exhaust temp too high, mean need slow down. i think this make some sense.

PS: fxxk nengun, i wait 2 and half month for just a ECV!!

have you guys actually tried to hit boost with a big turbocharger and a restricted exhaust?

The turbo wont even spool up when i had my exhaust restricted. Not sure about other cars though

Hmm i am with guilt-toy. I am running in my newly built motor with HKS GT-RS.

I had a 3" exhaust on and couldnt even get past 0.8bar boost at 6000rpm and when i changed to a 94mm trust exhaust it easily got to 1.2bar boost. Now I am running a silencer on the car and it stops at around 0.8bar. With a silencer on it actually spools up kind of late and as you can see the lost in power.

Dont see it wrecking the engine though. Its not like the exhaust is fully blocked, just won't drive as hard.

How about this for full of shit. Have you ever done this or seen it and resulting engine damage, or are you just using your vast Internet knowledge and unquestioned "rep" on here? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I had an ECV. Accidental left it half way closed and drove around for 3-4 hours trying to figure out why I couldn't boost more than 1 bar (with my HX40 turbo.) Figured it out a couple hours later after trying different stuff and running it out through the gears with no change. No damage. I've also screwed around with it after this at varying of the ECV being shut. The more it's shut, the less it boosts. I'm not saying a person should do this and I'm not saying it COULDN'T hurt a motor, but making a blanket statement like "DON'T BOOST IT AT ALL!! IT WILL BLOW UP!!" is stupid. I am speaking from first hand knowledge. WHat are you speaking from Nismoid & Nismoid nut swingers?

Guilt Toy is right, R31Nismoid is wrong.

OP--don't use that as your primary exhaust silencer. Get a proper exhaust. If you put a silencer in though and boost it, it's not going to blow up right away.

what is a 'nut swinger'> btw when my cat was blocked I blew out an exhaust gasket, so obviously there's too much backpressure, also a silencer would be more restrictive even than an ECV, you do know that the OP is talking about those pissy little pea shooter pipes you fit in your cannon right?

Wow, I actually considered one time to drive with a silencer on the drifting track, since the "guard" measured I had around 102db noise, while 100 is maximum allowed.

But he gave me one chance and let me drive without it. So I could damage the engine if I had drive with the silencer ? :whistling:

I sometimes drive with the silencer on the motorway, and I can feel the powerloss, and engine making lesser sound, but it still plenty of power.

Blowing out your exhaust gasket is not major damage like burnt valves or a warped head, especially not from heat, which is what was stated. Also, I don't know what ECV you have been looking at, but mine almost completely blocked off the exhaust. There was only an opening about the thickness of a credit card between the valve and the wall of the exhaust the entire way around the pipe. It absolutely KILLED my power when it was 100% shut. Way more than the silencer I had before the ECV.

I have long said and will still maintain; SAU has some of the best info about Skylines and RB's on the net. There is, however, a lot of BS that is based on some crap somebody wrote 5-6 years ago not based on any real experience and it just keeps getting repeated and repeated until it's taken as fact by 90% of people out there. If you haven't seen something happen first hand or talked to somebody who has, the STFU.

BTW, I may disagree with Nismoid on more than a few things, but he knows a shit ton about skylines and RB's. The main people I'm venting at are the people blindly agreeing with his wrong point in this thread with no idea what they are talking about.

Agreed.

A car barely comes onto boost with one in there anyway.

Im keen to see what would happen to an engine being constantly thrashed with one in there though. Who wants to be a test dummy :blink:

Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise

    • Was that Australia Delivered Duncan? Does it have siren etc?   I used to have remote start on an old 32 two decades ago, it was a cool feature. I used to wake up early in winter for work. Start it and by the time i was out the door a few minutes later the engine was warmed up and the heaters had the car toasty. It was great.    I don’t mine the ambience lighting.  I drive a western star and it has footwell lights and ambient lighting and it’s great! From the pics of seen of them installed in a skyline I think it’s a nice touch
