Gday all

I have had my stag for over a year now and i am still waiting for a cruise or meeting to take place, I have dropped a few hints here and there but no luck :-(

So i thought i might try and get something going, So for every one in good old Tas, Who's keen?????

Maybe the Launceston guys / girls meet up and drive to Ross and meet up with the Hobart guys / girls or something. It doesnt have to be a full day event or it can be.

Or if no one is keen from Hobart it can be just a meet up at a car park in town

cheers

what if we went north and visited the sidling? (think its what its called) the road that goes to scotsdale

maybe just grab a map of the last targa? or the one coming up and pick some road from that to suit

should be good

guessing its gonna be a nissan "sports" car cruise? i.e. navara's or anything fwd?

the sidling is always a option (very good road) If we went down that way we could carry on down to st Helens which is very similar to the sidling in places,

The idea about the targa stages is a good, I might have to spend some time on google maps

doesnt matter what cars come along, might be safer if you where driving a nissan, even if you needed to replace your holden badge with a nissan badge :D

where we go will mainly depend on how many Hobart people are keen, if we its just people from the north then we will stay up here

I am starting to think i might just have to say I will be at this car park on this date and time to go for a cruise and who ever wants to come, come along, sound harsh but i have

seen alot of these crash because it gets all to hard

Yeah I'd definitely be up for a cruise, been checking out these forums for a while and was surprised not to see any. I'm from the south now but I grew up in the north east so a big fan of both the Sideling and the Weldborough pass, awesome driving roads. As long as I'm free the day this is on and mojo is running I'll be there, possibly with a few mates.

That being said there are some awesome driving roads down south as well, which I'd love to drive with some other people, but I'm sure Funz could give us all the down low on the best driving roads down here.

Perhaps we could map out a plan with google maps (remember to use the "link" button, or others wont be able to load it correctly) to map out the entire route, and set some stopping places like the weldborough hotel and the like (great people/place and heaps of parking)?

For those of you who don't know the sideling:

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sou...e=UTF8&z=11

and for those of you who don't know the weldborough pass:

i wouldn't mind some rally action but i doubt many ppl will come if we head for some gravel

keen to get something going b4 the weather turns bad

http://www.targa.org.au/Course.html

leg 4 looks ok or leg 2

i got some ppl together when i was back home, just gave a few weeks notice and set a date and made sure the majority of ppl could make it

just choose a time and date and tell everyone, if it goes up on boostcruising we'll get a few ppl to come but we'd prob have to limit it to something along the lines of rwd or awd (but not 4wd) and nissan or we'll get ppl with poosars and navaras coming along

the last cruise that a few of us tried to get off the ground was out around mole creek, cefana, lake barington, paradise, shefield way.

its all far better driving road than the sideling (road serfice wise) and the old scottsdale to st hellens loop has been done heaps.

If you were to do something like that i could muster up half a dozen skylines. its an inspirational bit of road.

but im not coming if theres going to be any nissans that look like volvos.

I was keen for this till I read these comments...

Sounds all to "elitist" for me.

Everybody complains they cant get these sorts of things off the ground and then you wanna go and limit who can turn up...

Good luck with it, I'll stick to heading off for a drive by myself, when I want and where I want without fear of being in the wrong car, taking the wrong road, talking to the wrong person, or wearing the wrong jumper or basically doing anything that may not be approved of by the so called organisers. :P

I just went for a 2 hour cruise with a mate who owns a completely stock Daihatsu Charade last night, completely miss-match cars in power and handling ability, and I had a complete ball. Sure I had to slow down to what was probably a more sensible speed for some of the corners and couldn't thrash it on the straights, but the actual act of driving with another car enthusiast gets me every time, no matter what they drive.

I don't see how having any type of car (nissan or otherwise) on the cruise could detract from the experience at all, if someone had a school bus that they were excited about, wanted to mod out or just generally talk about, I'd be all in for a drive. (Okay the school bus may detract from the cruise a little, a bit of an extreme example).

I just want to drive, have fun, and talk about cars or what has happened on the cruise when we stop, as long as the people are good quality, I couldn't give a s#!t about the cars quality. Sometimes a crappy car produces an amazing driver or amazing ingenuity, I'm interested to meet people with both.

sorry for making it sound very selective, wasn't what i intended but its just on the gold coast (where i'm from) 70% of the nissan drivers that are on boost think that they are racing drivers but actually drive something that is a long way from quick, and when the nissan cruise was organised it was nissan "sports" cars only, ended up with over 100 cars (180's, s13's, s14's, s15's, r31's, r32's, r33's, r34's, stageas, cerfiro's, v35's)

still not used to how things work down here but i was trying to suggest to keep it to the greater skyline community (i.e. anything that there is a forum for here on SAU)

but i'm not organising it, it was just a suggestion, and i'll attend and support whatever happens

well thats good to hear because i hate putting up with wingers on cruises.

By the way im taking the piss. for people that go on cruises and meet other people they get to see what their real personality is like ect.

im not organising anything just simply suggesting a nice pice of road to go on. i dont care if its a cruise to maccas 1/2 a k down the road but some of my friends are more willing to come on new and exciting roads.

Volvo jokes just taking the piss. and people bite all to easy.

im sorry to have put a dampener on the event but if you get that serious about a few words on the interweb you need to get out more. and go on cruises.

A little smiley face or something would have been nice at the end of this sentence to let everyone know that you where joking, because it is hard to tell the dick heads from

the normal people on here especially if some of us haven't meet each other before.

at this stage it is just a meet and great, might leave the cruise for another date

And no I am not say that we cant have jokes!!!!!!

    • Ok, so first round of maintenance done. I didn't get much history with the car but I know it was well looked after. That isn't enough for me though, so ...  I had to do the oil filter housing gasket. It was leaking a lot, and also as part of that I did the anti-return valve and the VANOS oil line (from HEL).  But, then I got hit with the while-ya-in-there's. Did both accessory and A/C belts, tensioners and pulley. The accessory belt that came off had a huge hole in it, like somebody hung it up with a nail. The pulley and tensioners seem ok, so I'll keep those just in case. I did water pump and pump pulley. The water pump had a small bit of play so timing was good.  I also did fan clutch. I don't know how to test the old one but between the water pump and the fan clutch the car is running a little bit cooler (not much ~2 - 3 degrees maybe) so good result. Unfortunately the thermostat and housing didn't turn up in time so I'll shelve those. I have no concerns at all on the current ones.  Then I spent what seemed like 40 days and 40 nights bleeding the air from the cooling system. She also got new air filter, fuel filter and did a Mobil 1 change with oil filter. Hilariously, not an hour after telling my wife how proud I was of myself to be going slowly and meticulously and making sure everything was torqued and nothing missing I went and started it without the oil filter in. The car complained immediately of no pressure and after only a few seconds I turned it off and discovered a shit tonne of oil on the driveway. Sigh. I've driven it since and thankfully doesn't seem to be any problems. AND THEN during the test drive a ratchet extension fell into the battery area in the boot and JAMMED right next to the positive terminal and the car body. Like, just touching it made sparks and it was jammed in there. So, almost killed the engine and then almost burned the car to a crisp. Good start. This was the rails under the splash guards. So stoked, she's straight as and super clean. No rust anywhere. There was a heap of caked dirt that I removed but otherwise looked great. All 4 jacking points are perfect.   Next I want to service the gearbox. Sometimes it's a little reluctant to shift up and I'm hoping a fluid change will sort it. I also have 4 new rear subframe bushes. They're as big as a toddler. I'm renting a tool to help put them in. I can't wait for this because its a bit crashy back there at the moment.
    • Remember when those donkeys kept using freedom units and smashed that satellite to bits on the moon? NASA has their brain switched on and uses the metric system.
    • Don't use "gasless MIG" (FCAW) you want to use proper MIG. FCAW burns a few hundred degrees hotter than MIG will for mild steel. It is a true ball ache for sheet metal. New MIG / TIG machines even have features like "Spot Weld" as well as "Automatic" settings. Plenty of people say for DIY home hobby, the auto machines are pretty good for 95% of welding. I personally, I'm a sucker for punishment and wanting to dial it in, and be able to adjust the machine. Mainly because I used to MIG weld for a living, and being able to tweak and tune things ever so slightly was my preference. Hence when I bought my ACDC TIG, it has all the adjustments for everything and no "easy" mode. Ha ha I have stick, MIG, "gaslessMIG" and ACDC TIG at home. Out of them, if you're doing mild steel sheet metal repair, and want to do mild steel exhausts, go MIG. If you're thinking you'll want to get into doing some aluminium stuff, or stainless steel, get an ACDC TIG with HF start. If you can, get one with a foot pedal too. My MIG machine is a UniMIG, and my Stick/TIG is CigWeld. If I were buying another machine, I'd buy another CIGWeld. Lots of people having issues with UniMIG, and them not wanting to cover warranty. Everything has to go back to UNIMig themselves. CIGWeld, I've had to use their warranty on my machine for a gas leak, they have repair centres everywhere, (contracted authorised repair centres). First repair place I used were hopeless, but the second place were amazing. Warranty process itself super easy, and second repair place was telling me CigWeld actually cover in their warranty, upto an hour of techs time to help you with your machine, and going through the settings and helping teach you the machine. UniMIG keep trying to get out of replacing motherboards on 12 month old machines.   TLDR, mild steel sheet welding, buy a MIG. my vote is CigWeld for brand.
    • I guess that's what happens when someone can't convert metric to freedom units to machine something. 😛
    • I've watched some vids and the technique seems to be to butt the sheets up to one another and use MIG to spot weld and slowly fill in the spots until its eventually all sealed. No runs as you would normally do, as there's too much heat generated that way. Yeah my stick welds are terrible these days because its been so long since i've done any of it. I expect to be spending many hours practicing
