with or without amp? Urgent!!

Hi guys.

Can I run a set of alpine splits and 2 rear speakers (6.5' 3 way 400w peak) without amp?

The cd player is 50w x 4

somebody said it will hurt the cd player....

it definitely won't hurt the cd player..

you will be underpowering the speakers, but that isn't really bad. It'll be fine, lots of people run that setup until they can afford an amp to get the big volume to go deaf

Just make sure all the speakers are at least 4ohms.

I ran the stereo in my car for ages like this. What the person meant, was that using the internal amp in a deck, does technically wear it out faster, so running off external amps is better for them. Most decks though, will last for many years running off the internal, without damage. So run your speakers off the deck for the moment, and when you get the cash together, get yourself a nice 4 channel amp.

As above. You'll get a quite a good sound out of that setup (as long as you dont try to run a sub off the deck too). As long as you dont crank it to the point of distortion you wont have a problem. I've got the same setup (alpine speakers are NICE!!) with a sub. It'll prob bet a different story if you tried 6x9s though... no damage, but the lack in power will be really noticeable if you have the ear for it.
