Hey guys, i just tried to install my safc and i first connected the rpm, ignition power & ground and it worked fine, then i tried the airflow signal and the car was running really rough like it was running on 5cyl. I removed the wires that go to the airflow signal wire and connected the AFM signal wire back normally and the car still has the problem, it runs really rough like a wrx and dies quickly. still runs really rough with my right exhaust shaking badly and spitting what looks like small amounts of fuel out. Anyone happen to know a fix?

PS: Car is a 300zx

Make sure all the settings are right before you start the car, providing you connected everything properly eg. some cars run air flow meters and some map sensors, start with that make sure you set the thing up to air flow meters and go through the settings making sure its all set up correctly for your car. If its a second hand unit make sure you reset it.

Cheers

Its setup correctly mate, but the thing is when i removed it the car still acted the same. Only started happening after i cut the AFM signal wire and connected it to the input & output wires of the safc, but with them removed now it still does the same.

BTW, one of these units 149389-apexi-afc-5-button-dsc00233.jpg

Yeh thats an old one I was thinking of the new ones. Sorry mate I cant help I have no idea, the only thing that comes to my mind is an air flow meter issue, try replacing it with a mates one and see if it works then thats always a good starting point. My mates WRX was doing the exact same thing to what you described and it turned out to be AFM maybe its just a coincidence that it happened now, but as I said its a good starting point and take it from there.

was the car running 100% before the SAFC was installed?

Yeah mate, was running like a dream

have you checked that its not a fouled plug?

thats what it sounds like.

if the AFM was dead that car wouldnt run.

i'll have a look at the plugs soon, but i don't think its the case as it happened as soon as i connected the input & output wires of the safc.

Unplug the AFM and let it go into limp, see if there is any difference with/without the AFM now.

Then check AFM resistance with a multimeter, can't remember what it should be for a 33. possibly shorted the AFM some how? Also check what ECU error codes you are getting on the dash/ecu.

I had one of those SAFC once upon a time, they make a great beer coaster. :D
