R33 Na Hop Ups Worth It?

Hey guys,

Been a long time reader and can't thank you guys for all the tips I've gotten from SAU over the years.

But right now I am hoping to get some unbiased honest opinions and suggestions.

I am currently driving a 4 door R33 GTS2.5 and is looking to take the next step in car performance and is looking to drop 10k into the engine, spoke to a tuner and he said it would be best to bolt on a small turbo, along with other necessary performance parts and the car should be able to keep up with some of the newer stock higher performing cars.

At the same time, I got a really good deal on a G35... but this would mean letting go of the R33.

I am quite attached to the R33 so I wouldn't mind putting money into it. But do you guys think this is a good idea? Or should I just go for the G35?

Btw, I don't have any info on what type of Turbo is suggested. So if you guys got any ideas, it'll help out loads as well.

can't believe i'm going to say this, but i agree with bozo. sell your car and get a turbo one, then sink a few thousand into it. even if you have to travel an hour or 2 to find one (i had to go 2.5 hours to get my 33, and that isn't that far, cause there are only about 10 turbo skylines in the town i live in)

the other option would be to just buy a halfcut with a turbo engine in it, but the whole car will be a better option as you will be getting a few extra things such as better brakes and LSD, and saving yourself a buttload of stuffing around. you should pretty much be able to sell your car for around the same as what you could pick up a turbo one for, then throw about 5k at it (turbo, ecu, injectors, afm and tune) and you will probably be making more power than if you put 10k into you current car, and be 5k better off.

As has been said, buy a turbo. Theres no point spending $10,000 on the engine if your brakes and suspension are stock.

Your car will not be worth more after the $10,000 has been spent. It might actually be worth less as non turbo skylines are in high demand.

What model g35/v35? 2.5L, 3.0L or 3.5L?

I think I'll be looking at the halfcut or the G35 (its the 3.5L version).

The problem with me selling the car and getting a turbo one is that I need a 4 door saloon car and the only turbo ones here (Brunei) are the two door versions. Also there is no P plate rule here so turbo cars are 2 to 3 times more expensive than Na ones. So it doesn't make much sense for me to sell my current car and dig out another 10k for a turbo r33 or r34. Might as well get the G35.

Where is "here"? I'd spend a weekend looking at Skylines in other states and driving the perfect one back there. Will save alot of money and time in the long run.

R33 or even an R34 half cut should be fine. Are you going to have an auto or manual setup?

Or you can get an R34 GTT sedan.

V35/G35 3.5L is pretty good - but be warned - do not get the CVT trans as it is very expensive to service and prone to problems.

All early versions of the V35 3.5L sedans had CVT trans - the later revisions went to a 5 speed auto, just make sure you get the 5 speed auto version.
