I don't think that this belongs in the epa section of the vic forums, as i'm looking for opinions of ppls from past experiences.

I curious if my exhaust exceeds 90db. My set up in my R33- i'm running stock pipes from the turbo to cat- 3inch high flow cat (catsco)- 3inch turbo back exhaust (hakimoto [not sure on the spelling]).

Today I went and got the exhaust lifted to ensure that my car is legal ride height and they didn't have a db reader. I'm currently trying to tidy up any loose end to avoid and surprises further down the track, not really looking for fines either lol

If ppl have facts of this issue, i'm keen to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

well i just cleared my EPA last week. 3.5" dump which i then bolted a stock cat back exhaust onto and my reading was 87db

seeing as you have changed from the cat back there is no way you will be at 90db or under.

Two mufflers should be alright. It's a qualitative measure so I'll wait to hear the vid but you should be right. I've got one muffler and a hotdog, it's alot louder than stock and the cop didn't say anything about my exhaust when I got pulled over for inspection.

Where did you get your exhaust lifted? and what part can get tucked up?

i'm pretty clueless to this stuff..but last time I was at my mechanics getting other stuff made legal, i asked him if he had a wheel to measure ride height. The entire car was clear except the middle exhaust bit that hangs down right under where you sit, it just clips his measuring tool a little and gets stuck. is there anything that can be done about that or should i be looking at suspension, not exhaust?

You can get any part lifted up as long as there's enough space between the pipe and the chassis. They'll just put a small mandrel bend in either side of the part that is too low. Alternatively, if you have coilovers you can just raise the car a quarter of an inch lol.

Cheers Birds, I'll get onto that.. any recommendations of a place to do it though.

Peter where'd you do yours? And where are you heading to get the DB sorted out and tested? shouldn't a mechanic or a wide number of places have these? if so, i wouldn't mind knowing my own reading. keep us updated on the outcome.

Quiet alr33x you hellaflush fool.

Any exhaust place will be able to do it for you mate. Ringwood performance exhaust were pretty good when I got mine done there.

lol @ "Legalis", funny as name.

Its doubtful that if its aftermarket exhust it will pass the stock r33 cat back is pretty borderline to legal ranging form like 86-90 and thats real quiet so doubtful any aftermarket would pass , can come close though
