Hey guys,

Thinking of putting a forward facing plenem on my rb25

looking at gettting either a plazmaman or greddy one..??

Any experience, and or advice, iz it worth it, there performance or dificalty putting them in ect..

Would be great..

Hi Troy,

I have this conversation with many customers and we have tested both back to back to determine the pros and cons. The main difference is that the Plazmaman retains the standard runners, where the Greddy has shorter runners incorperated into the unit. This design feature of the Greddy in simple terms, creates more top end power at the expense of mid range torque. The longer factory runners helps bring boost on at an earlier rpm (have seen 300-500rpm better spool!!!) so if you want your turbo to spool faster, make more useable mid range power/torque but miss out on a little bit of peak hp, then the Plazmaman is for you. If you only care about the number on the dyno, get the Greddy.

I would sell 20 plazmaman plenums for every Greddy unit.

NB: Do not buy a Greddy copy unless you have a guarantee from your supplier that is will not leak coolant. We had a number of customer supplied copies that were nothing but trouble and cost the customer heaps more by the time it was fitted.

Unfortunately not (we generally go from standard straight to Hypertune (single throttle)), although I would expect there to not be a massive difference as the RB26 has short runners as standard so there isnt a dramatic difference like on the RB25.

Actually, an interesting point, is that an RB25 with a GT35R on it will achieve full boost earlier than an RB26 with the same turbo kit, even though the RB25 has a smaller capacity. This is a combination of the VVTi and also the longer runners on the inlet manifold of the RB25. The RB26 will probably make more peak power and it also has more revs to work with.

I did back to back with stock vs greddy. Same as above, the differance in mid-range was enormous.

Only thing greddy has going for it is the short cooler piping.

But that's where the palaz plenum comes in. If only it wasn't so expensive.

Gains vary from car to car as there are usually a bunch of things that can be improved to improve performance. If I was to quote a figure, I would say 10-20kw is possible, however the more power you are making, the more effective the upgrade becomes. I wouldn't personally run out and get one for a car with a standard turbo, but as part of a well put together package, the plazmaman stuff works really really well.

We have a number of cars making big numbers with them. One is on a VC commodore that we are still developing that has a standard NEO RB25DET engine (plus a nitto dbs head gasket and arp studs) running a GT45R turbo on a 6Boost manifold and it is making 587hp @ wheels on 25psi (e85). The other is a RB25/30 with a GT4094R running 30psi on E85 making 633hp in a R32 GTST, which just ran a 10.4@135mph in full trim. Both of these cars use the plazmaman setup and both enjoy the response of the longer runners (yes the 45R is laggy, but we are fixing that with a ZEX nitrous spool kit!)

Just another little note, the RB25/30 with the GT40R is more responsive than a standard RB25 with a GT3076R and makes heaps more power!!! Just goes to show that bigger doesn't have to be laggier!!

Thats a very interesting eye opener...I'm beginning a 25/30 build and was skewed to the GT3076R particularly because of all the feedback on the forum on this turbo on a 25 or 25/30. Would you mind sharing how early the GT40R comes on boost/full boost on a 25/30?

I will try and post up some graphs but it might take a little while....I have a bit on and I am a retard with the scanner! :(

At the end of the day, you need to choose a turbo that suits your goals. Don't pick one that people are raving about just because it is popular. Lets say for your build you might have a particular hp goal, or a full boost by XXXXrpm goal, so for your combination of parts that you are using, you need to pick a turbo that will perform how you want. EVERY PERSON IS DIFFERENT, so decide what is important to you and your goals, then work towards them. Hopefully you will get lots of advice from people like me, who do these modifications for a living. Our experience is your gain, so find a workshop that you feel comfortable with and give them as much information as you can and let them offer advice, examples of combinations they have done before and suggestions that can improve your setup. It will only aid your outcome.

I guess the other thing you need to remember is BE REALISTIC with your goals. If you want 500hp, then go for it. If you want 300hp, then thats fine too. Don't get caught up in the ego dyno graph challenge. At the end of the day, YOU need to live with the car, so it has to please you. My job is to recommend solutions that are suitable for you. We build the car for YOU, YOUR DREAM, not for us. Its a big difference.

We don't make millions of dollars in this industry, we do it more for the passion of it over just making money (trust me, I turned my back on a lucrative Engineering career to follow my passion of jap perf cars). So chances are, we love cars just as much as you, so we can talk about then non-stop, just like you. :)

one other thing that should be mentioned is that forward facing plenum(s) are more responsive than standard due to less piping involved

This is true for on/off/on throttle response. There is negligible difference when looking at dyno graphs at wide open throttle in terms of the boost line (unless the plenum has changed the result, not the piping).

I always wanted a Greddy plenum on my RB25 (hairstyles I guess) till I saw how well put together the Plazmaman stuff is and recognised how good the stock RB25 runners are for almost every application.

Interesting , I must have another look at Oyays RB25 plenum .

I imagine its a lot less involved than changing the whole manifold over and more easily reversed if needed for any reason .

For the record can the std throttle body be used in place of the pretty , expensive , one ?

Lastly the real "Greedy" one is quite expensive so the PM one must be real expensive .

I suppose you have to factor in the fitting antics of the GReady one so all up maybe similar ?

dont underestimate the greddy. I have egt sensors in my exhaust manifold and the tuner was very impressed with the evenness of the temperatures across the cylinder range. That tells me I am getting a good even fuel distribution across all 6 pots.

This is in no way a slight at the Plazmaman product, it may well do the same but i aint changing to find out.

Does anyone here have closer pics of the Plasmaman plenum , I'd like to see where the fittings and IAC assembly goes .

I reckon if I got one I'd want it in innocent flat black .

I did ask recently about what size the std R33 25T TB is but cant remember .

On PMs manifold did your customers use anything larger than std and if so were there any negative results .

Just for the record my R33 has porting/OS exhaust valves/approx 9.2CR/Poncams/740 Nismos/PFC and a GT3076R 52T 0.82 A/R IW turbo to fit .

I like the sound of anything that improves an engines mid range so I'm all ears .

With a pipe kit and an OE GTR intercooler I'd like to have a reasonably responsive 270+ at the wheels .

Doable I think .

Well it sounds like you have a smiliar setup to mine. Built head, Poncams etc.

My car makes boost quicker than any skyline I have been in.

As for the fittings. All fittings are down the middle (drivers side) and there is one on the passengers side. The other fittings for your brake booster, IAC etc are in near stock locations.
