1. A 60-YEAR-OLD man was admitted to hospital after being run down by his own car in a hit-and-run by a car thief.

2. A 19-YEAR-OLD man is fighting for his life after being cut from the wreckage of a head-on crash in St Albans.

3. THREE people were seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into two onlookers in Victoria's east.

4. Head on motorcyle accident.

Speed is not the primary cause of any of these accidents. And yet the cops line is: ""I urge people who are on the road today to think about that and just remember that slowing down will not kill you, but speeding could."

Yes I realise there were 2 or 3 people caught doing well over the speed limit and I dont agree with that but surely its only one of the issues. Two of the accidents were head on crashes on straight sections of road. "It is believed speed may have been a factor in the crash." Are they serious?? Driving on the wrong side of a straight section of road and having a head on accident is due to speed?? Well I mean of course if neither bikes were moving they couldnt have an accident but how can they be this illogical :woot: Surely 3 of these accidents are primarily caused by driver error. I didnt know that driving at 10km/h over the limit suddenly caused you to drift into oncoming traffic...

From another article:

Senior Sgt Clarke said that as of 4pm on Easter Monday, 139 cars were seized by police traffic - 117 due to no motor drivers' licence and 22 for hoon behaviour.

"Holiday periods always seem to bring out the hoon in those who have it lurking somewhere in them,'' Senior Sgt Clarke said.

117 didnt have a freaking license!!! But the summary is the 22 hoon drivers over the entire weekend, and who knows what classifies as hoon behaviour. Surely the issue is the 117 people without a drivers license!!

Logic is not necessary when imposing dogma (this is why it is not clear what constitutes hoon behaviour) and the police/EPA are not required to be logical/fair. They are there to be raising revenue. If they were logical/fair they would not make so much money (vis 80% increase in fines in the Mornington Peninsular).

BTW did you know that you can be fined for skidding over tram tracks in the wet, its true and happened to a work mate.

Having said that I suppose I'll get fined for something or other now when the authorities next browse the forum and read my post criticising them. I bet they know the real names and rego number of all of us.

Lets not forget this 'Hoon', who crashed when a pizza shop jumped out in front him!

LOL. well said.

Dam pizza shops.

there should be a legislation for those death traps haha

speed doesn't help any accident, i think youll find that is their avenue and how they market it, its just difficult to market it as anything else

if they plaster the media with speed kills it might make a few people realise and slow down

so instead they may just do some damage vs cutting their car in half

Yup gotcha fellers, I have never heard that one before

Just trying to make the point that if I used this logic at my job I would be fired within a week. How can they get it so wrong for so long and still stand by it. Why will they not come out and say ok we got it wrong, the road toll has not dropped, lets do this instead.

Yes! No logic! They need to find a way to justify these accidents other than "You're a dickhead"... when actually people being idiots is the problem.

By idiots do you mean people choosing to be silly? Not sure if people veering onto the wrong side of the road are choosing to be idiots. I think its either they literally have no idea or they are bored and loose concentration. Either way I dont think they are choosing to be silly.

This is my point, is the main problem people having fun and doing silly things on the street? The accident figures seem to suggest it is not. None of the serious accidents over easter had anything to do with "hoons". And yet it seems to still be the main focus.

I mean the hoon squad were talking about that drunk lady who ran into someone and killed them while she had a baby in the back seat. How in hell does that have anything to do with the word "hoon". Maybe she was driving a GTR but I am guessing not.

Yes some people do silly things on the street for fun but I think its only a very small fraction of the serious accidents. Why do they not come out with statistics on the % of serious accidents caused by "hoons"... because its only a small number. Good ol scapegoat

I get what you're saying but speed still does kill. How many news articles have you seen beginning with "P plate car smashes into tree at 168km/h".

High speeds = less control of the vehicle + less time to slow down to avoid an obstacle

If you're flying down a road at 150km/h and someone pulls out in front of you, you're f*cked. Simple as that.

Watch the 'wipe of 5' ads. They speak the truth.

However, maybe if you had massive 8 pot brakes it would be okay :)

That's what I'm talking about... if you're being 'silly' meaning you're going faster than the law tells you to it doesn't mean you're dangerous. If you're drunk with a baby in the back seat... idiocy doesn't even begin to cover that one.

I know plenty of people who are skilled enough to driver faster than speed limits safely... I'm sure we all do. Speed makes a difference to the severity but it isn't always the cause.

3 words, fark the police...

sorry to say but i disagree with those words. while there are some import owners that are tools and other that decent, the same thing goes with police officer. don't take it as a person attack though, just don't think that should slag all police officer on a open public forum. It is showing SAU members as hoon and disgreading laws, when most ppl are not like that

3 words, fark the police...

fark the TMU is more appropriate i find most other police officers who preform the usual duties and things are fine, just seems all the tmu i have ever come across are dogs with a massive chip on their shoulders, i'm fine to wear a defect or whatever since i modded my car knowing it was defectable but their attitude, smartarse comments and been treated like a 4th class citizen i dont appreciate.
