Hey,

I have been reading on here alot over the last 6 months or so. I am looking to buy an R34 GT-T 4 door in the next year, and i'm wondering what the safety options were. Looking at import websites they seem to often have an air bag but nothing more.

Were dual front air bags and ABS brakes an option? Are 4 door GT-T with these safety options hard to come by?

Thanks,

Anthony.

My 4 door has passenger side airbag, ABS. GTT should have Traction control also. N/A one doesn't. My one doesn't as it's a n/a with a GTT Engine in it.

Mine is a late 2000 Series II - I do not know if this affects anything any

That's awesome thanks mate, just what i wanted to hear!

So i shouldn't have too much trouble finding an R34 GT-T manual with safety options?

From the original R34 sedan brouchure (Series 1). Safety features.

- Dual front airbags.

- Optional front side airbags (rare)

- Xenon headlights on GT-X and GTt-X models. (sometimes removed for compliance).

- Traction control on all GTt and GTt-X models.

- Snow mode on non-turbo auto models.

- Heated mirrors.

- Rear wiper.

- ABS with EBA and EBD.

- ATTESA on AWD models.

- Anti-fog coated windscreen, mirrors and rear windscreen. (I'm pretty sure this coating would have worn out by now...)

- Windscreen coated with rain repellant. (I'm pretty sure this coating would have worn out by now...)

- Safety flares (most are missing by the time the car gets to Aus. and "probably" removed for compliance - I'm really not sure where they go...)

- Anti-bacterial door and grab handles (???? *no idea*)

Haha this is awesome, thanks very much iseekool for the info. Some of the less important features are half the reason i'm swapping from Commodores to Imports .. they are so much more thought out and better planned, and much more 'engineered' if you get what i mean.

Cheers!

...don't quote me but im pretty sure after a certain year all cars were to come standard with airbags...

i think ...1996 or 97?

I "think" driver's side airbag has to come standard on all cars after '97 - but this is 3rd hand info I've heard.

Dual airbags (or more) are not compulsary even nowadays.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a safety flare in mine, until my car went through a defect inspection and the inspector confiscated it saying it should have been removed at compliance.

I really want it back :(

Now I just have to work out how to remove the traction control (hopefully on a switch) and ABS from mine. Drivers airbag will be pulled off when the new steering wheel goes on :P

You realise all of these changes will make the car defectable right? The traction control has a switch to turn it off anyway - and 666DAN can supply a box to make it off by default (and switch to turn it on).

Removing ABS and airbag for anything but a track only car is just silly IMO (as well as illegal). Why would you want to compromise the safety of your car?

    • I agree on doing some better than factory pistons, rods, and oil pump. For anyone using the vehicle on the road, I don't get why everyone wants big cams. The stock cam profile, with some more lift would be mint for road usage. Everyone going big cams and then wondering why it isn't as responsive in traffic, when they've shifted the torque curve upwards an additional 1000RPM. Make torque, at lower RPM. Sure it's not as cool as claiming "500KW" and revving it to 8,0000RPM, but that same torque 2,000RPM earlier... Then you don't need the extremely high end pistons and rods, and blah blah blah.
    • Personal experience. Those f**kers burn. And are actually a PITA to put out. Next time I walk down the back, I'll snap a photo of what the inside of the bonnet looks like when that thing ignites. PS, powder fire extinguishers are useless on that stuff too as it's fibrous and when it ignites, it starts to pull apart. And you end up just blowing powder through a sieve effectively.   Like the big thing is, if it's fire resistant, it's job is to stop what burning? The METAL above it? It's just to try keep heat off the bonnet paint work.
    • Oh man, sorry, $60.00000000... 😛
    • That's more or less what he meant. What it really means is that you do not have to go full crazy on the build. Don't need the best oil pump, expensive rods & pistons, big cams, etc. You can upgrade whatever you want instead of using stock level items, but you don't have to. Having said that - any time an RB is opened up, if anything is getting replaced, I think the opportunity should be taken to do all the sensible upgrades. Pistons, rods, pump, etc.
    • February update 🙂 We managed to get the very last 1/18th "Extra Scale" cars stock available from bookstores in Kyoto. These are actually the last ones and will not be restocked again! Hachette Collections Japan have not decided on a release date for these or other models in the series, so for the time being these are all there are available new.  These are showing up on Yahoo auctions at inflated prices already (especially the Celica and NSX) so get yours now at a very reasonable price before they disappear!
