My guess it was caused by excessive heat as that bottom piece is made out of plastic. Or perhaps someone has hit that area?

I,ll be a little more specific, for dimple read depression that extends between the number plate recess and the tail light and can only been seen at certain angles, also when a straight edge is put across them there is a gap of about 2mm at its deepest point. I tend to favour your idea of excess heat in the moulding process but am still surprised that it passed factory scrutiny as the two " dimples " are equal in size and shape. They don,t bother me it was just a question to see if it was a common fault or am I just lucky.

Some M35's came from factory with two largish plastic bits on each side of the rear numberplate area. (Queuing Nickcorr with more info on these plastic bits)

Maybe the plastic bits have been removed and left two "dimples"?

Pics would definitely help.

Are we talking about the spots where the two rubber pads are? The bottom edge of the number plate rests on these to stop it vibrating against the boot.

iamhe77 is on about my number plate trims, which we accessories fitted to fill the area around the square Japanese number plate.. Still planning on refitting mine, eventually, if only to hide the marks left when I removed them so that my VIC number plate fitted..
