All I have heard is complete praise for Dunlop FM901's. You may also find a set of Bridgestone RE711's will give you similiar ride quality when compared directly as an Ultra High Perofrmace tyre... each to their own.

Otherwise, Tire Rack will give you in-depth reviews, specs & ratings for most treads on the market. (Ie. FM901 Review)

I eventually got a set of Bridgestone S-03s put on today..

I havent had a chance to give them much curry.. but the little squirt around teh round about I had was impressive.. now I just need a better suspension setup :confused:

For the azz end I got a pair of 255/40 17, and the front 235/45 17..

Cost me around 1300 for the set.. *sighs*

I'll give them a decent road test and let you know how they go.

got Falken 451's, heaps heaps good. Can't fault them, apart from the rears tend to spin up off the line(traffic lights!!)

235x45x17 front

255x40x17 back

Fronts have worn a bit on the inside, but this is due to camber/allignment.

both have done about 35,000 and still have at least 35% tread

Well.. WHAT CAN I SAY!?

Took my car up through the twisties on these new tyres.. in my RWD 170rwkw gtst I out drove an r32 GTR, WRX, and an r34 GTR.. the car was on rails, and powered out of corners like no tommororow, they love the wet.. I was taking 80k/h corners at 5-6k rpm in 2nd gear with no wheel spin on wet roads.. and still powering out of corners..

im impressed.. i can not speak highly enough of them.

I've had a number of different tyres on my car in teh 2 1/2 years I've had my car... IMO, best bang for your buck tyres are the Falken Azenis ST115's... They're slightly more grippy than the FM901's, and slightly cheaper... On the downside, they don't last _quite_ as long... But still have a reasonably good life... I got almost a year out of the ones on the back of my car :D

The guys at the tyre place I am dealing with are suggesting the Pirelli P Zero Nero.

They reckon its grip is up with the best, but the ride quality is a lot better than most low profile tyres.

Anyone had any experience with them?

A set for mine will cost about $1800 fitted though.. ouch.

faulken grb's

for all you tight arses.. 255,40,17 i got four for 760 fitted and balanced

sure they dont gip as well as the yoki fl e-specs but i find that the only tyre that can hold up to a full day of drift at the creek without rippin the tread of to be fulken zeix(ful **** house) and the grb

downside is they dont sell the tune 2's anymore which were the grippier version, fk451 have slightly more gip than the grb's but they wear out extreamly quick(for the record they were 210 each). the st115(supposed to be good never had a set but they do were out as stupidly quick 270 each)

temple tyres 190 each sure it run by kabobies (several people said sic car bro is it a gtr)but i was in and out within 20 minutes. nice service i higly rcommend. especcially if you have been to a bob jane and they take 1.5 hours to get your car back on the road(but they do have a coffe machine)

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
