Sky031 i disagree, the driver has the choice to make the car go to 116k/ph or drive the car at 60kph.

everyone is quick to blame the type of car (media ect.) i think that if the driver didnt make the choice to speed it wont matter if the car was a skyline or a civic. the driver should respect the car and the power that it has, if the driver can't do so then they shouldnt be driving the car.

By the way i think power 2 weight laws ect are a stuiped idea, as you could buy let say a n/a power s13 and put a turbo engine into it making it a very fast car - My point is that people will try to get around the law causing alot more problems maybe more than it solves

again just my 2cents

was it the skylines fault?? no it wasn't .. it was the stupid kid, and he will get his punishment whether he truly deserves it or not, imho he doesn't he was just being stupid which is what kids do, but anyways ... there probably needs to be some regulation with P platers ... cause these things seem to always happen with them ...

SKY031: thats why he said it was 90% the driver.....

SkylineGeoff: I said the advanced training COULD end up having a negative impact, and if you allow teens to experience some good fun on say a skid pan it gives them ideas for in the wet to show off to their mates. Yet again a generalisation and not all teens are like this but it is sometimes dangerous to teach advanced driving. Thanks

all i have to say after reading what everyone said about driving safe and i wont do this and that when i get behind the wheel of a HP car..

well for some people, somethings are easily said then done.

Can you really resist the temptation of stepping on that pedal when a rexy or a 200 pulls next to you and starts reving his asss off.? while your gf or some of your "coool" mates are sitting next to you?

I know i can as i have beeeen doing that for the last 2 months since i got my skyline...if you can do that..then i applaud that coz it takes a lot of resistence to do dat. Saying all that i aint saying i don't gun it down the straight, but i neva go past 10-20kms ova the speed limit in a suburban road because i am alwayz paronoid that some kid or person mite walk out. Its also about recognising various conditions..like not pedallin too hard on a turn in wet weather when you jus got ur P's. This all comes with experience.

anywayz the point i am trying to make is that "Just coz the power is there, doesnt mean you have to use it, only use it when it is neccessary and oh..and using it wisely and not recklessly..."

thank you..

Im deadset scared!!! to race other cars. The thought of losing my licence, the thought of that huge fine, the thought of increasing insurance, the look on certain friends/family's faces, the thought of the complete stranger not having a clue and involving me in their accident or even worse i cause an accident and hit others, having to listen to a cop lecture me on what i already know, maybe hurt/kill someone etc etc.

And for what so i can prove that i cant launch a car and get beat by them, ... hey at least my licence is in tact and my clutch is still going strong after 85,000kms.

So for me it really isnt a temptation, 99% of the time i dont even encourage them to take off as you dont know how big a ratbag they are, and with your encouragement you could be helping them wrap themselves around tree or cause an accident involving others minding their business.

But thats me... :D

Occasionally i will feel the need to give someone a blast of my wastegate :Im ashamed to admit it, :) but it normally sends a clear signal "dont bite off more then you can chew" :whackit:

American Graffit style "Whats under your bonnet"..."Too much for you to handle kid" :D

Whats all this ?

it is 100% the driver

i recently had a very stupid and expensive accident where i am thanking my stars because in reality i should be dead

i was VERY lucky to get off with no injury and a $4000 accident bill

Its been a wakeup call for me, and i hope to pass this onto other skyline and performance drivers that when driving YOU hold your life in YOUR hands

alot of ppl are going to say wait a minute, doesnt the car hold your life in its hand.

No,

because you are the operator. You can kill yourself in ANY car. And anyone can kill you in ANY car.

If you drive safe, and everyone drives safe, driving will be safe.

Its the few that go way too far and break the boundaries that cause serious accidents like this one. IE he was racing.

Nothing wrong with racing.. just race to the speed limit and stop. If your not infront or atleast with the other racer then wats the point to keep going, your going to end up at 100+ in a 60 just to get past him?

If u really MUST race, say to the guy hey, lets goto the freeway.

Both pull over, wait for a break in traffic, line up, and race to 100km/h

Too many idiots are giving us a bad name people,

I know its bullshit, theres a million commonwhores that crash everyday from young people being stupid. But you dont hear about them. You hear about us because we are a minority and therefor have to behave better

my views anyway

Anyone can handle anything, it's just a matter of whether you are mature and sensible enough to do the right thing, which is almost impossible when it comes to a turbo and an under 21 year old, hence why most large insurance companys do not offer insurance for this age bracket and type of vehicle.

If every young bloke who drove a turbo car did the right thing the public wouldn't be forced to generalise that teens ride into a chariot of death.

Gary.

Um, hello? 0-100km/hr in sub 5seconds? Does that ring a bell at all? It is not 100% the driver. A crappy driver in a twin turbo car is so deadly. A crappy driver in a charade is not AS deadly. Some cars can be to blame for some percentage of-course. Not all Volvo drivers are that bad... it's just that their cars are so bad. No, but really. I shouldn't be joking. Someone dies because some idiot ran them over. That's very sad. I'd hate to lose a friend, or even worse... a family member to some kid in a Skyline racing on the street.

Hippy. If you don't think this kid deserves punishment for killing a man then I have no respect for you whatsoever. You might think differently if that man that was murdered was a friend of yours... or a family member.

I have a modified S14 that i use for track and road and i also have a friend with a boring everyday ford falcon. It seems not to be the car but the driver as he seems to narowly miss live objects all the time and i never have this problem. He is always lighting up his 1 wheel and speeding. I think the attitude of the driver and there training is the key. Show them what passengers thay are when the car loses control at 100KPH or even 60.

But the power restrictions have been implemented and works with Motorcycles

Put simply, this statement is B.S.

Attributing the reduction in incidents (of which I am yet to see any proof) to 250cc limits for new bike riders is a load of steaming bulls.

The reason (if any) for safer motorbike riding wouldn't have anything to do with the 2 day training course required in order to get a licence would it?!?!??!?!?

EDUCATION, guys'n'gals. Say it with me ;-)

Education changes understanding of the road rules and their implications. It changes perceptions of your own ability. It changes how accountable you feel/don't feel for your own actions and reactions. It changes your ATTITUDE on the road.

Tell me which one of these you think would've helped in this case?

Adrian

To tell you the truth 2rismo I was educated and it didnt help me much. Luckily no one was ever hurt but i got caught a few times. If i saw good roads id weave in and out zooming home but never where there were like shops and stuff with people. Only recently have i learnt how bloody stupid i was and thank god that nothing ever happened to me, my passengers or anyone around me.

Its sad that people only learn the hard way and driver education is not the answer for a lot of people. The people who take their parents cars by themselves pre Ls and during Ls are the most at risk as they have no insurance etc but then wen they get their Ps they think they are gods on the road and are by far the biggest risk.

I know mates on their Ps who think they can do handbrake turns after pulling it up the whole way around a turn and it makes a skidding noise. They do it with unsafe numbers in the car at unsafe places and nothing will change their minds until something bad happens which is a terrible way to learn mistakes.

It was a tradegy what happened for both sides of the accident, and maybe positive outcomes will emerge from all the sadness. The only way I can think of is for P platers to have a 1 point probation type license so that if they break ONE rule even they get shoved away for a year or 6 months. This would make it easy to seek out the speeders as most new drivers take it easy and wont lose their probation point.

4 points is just too much for P platers, and P platers need to be aware that if they get caught over 30km/h over the limit, that there is an automatic license suspension for 3 months.

Things need to be done. Have a safe drive everyone and remember!!!! SLOW DOWN!!

It is all these fools like paul walker from TF&TF that make these kids think that speeding and racing is soo cool. It's not really. It involves little skill and all it proves is similar to what a piece of paper can-the figures of the car. The kW. Track IS a measure of skill, and not just a car's stated power, thats where you can test your HP machine out and not kill innocent people. And no mater what you say, even if you think that you will be good and drive your HP car so carefully the more you get used to it the more you want to push and go further and test it, resulting in accidents. Has anyone seen a TAC ad with the yellow skyline in it? Its got a chick pretending to be a guy and making fun of it "i just like to go really fast around a corner....all the passengers scream etc etc" thats the sort of thing that discourages "toolish" driving. Also, i'm sick of all the wankers that drive skylines. I love the car and want one, but i hate how so many(not all, plz dont bite my head off i know that you guys on the forums arent tools... ) skylines are driven by the wrong ppl, thinking that burnouts are so cool etc etc. They are bringing down the good name, and who knows, maybe one day skyliners will be as frowned upon as commonwhorers???!!? oh lets just hope not...

Blaming others for the mistakes of reckless individuals is exactly what the media, police and government are doing now.

Drivers need to be educated; not just in advanced driver-training, but throughout their entire learning process, from L's to P's. They need to learn to respect other drivers, and to understand the concepts and physics of handling a motor vehicle (not just in an optional, ~$600 course).

I, myself, am looking forward to getting my car in a few months time (July), and will most likely be importing a R32 GTS4. Sure, many of you may think that this car is too powerful for someone my age -- and it is, if I chose to drive it recklessly and beyond my abilities. But I don't, and I won't. Traffic light drags are stupid, as-is speeding (though the 3km tolerance is pathetic).

I'm actually going through the WA learners manual now, and it is the most uninformative piece of trash I've ever read. A picture book has more relevant information.

Yeh Elithrar :( Once you get out on the road you views will change so after you've driven for 3 years without speeding and all the stuff you have said, then you have lived up to your word.

Whats wrong with the 3km tolerance? When you get out on the road you will see :)

Backup the 3 k tolerance in vic ignores adr's for vehicle manufacture that allow a 10% tolerance. Not to mention the thickness of my speedo needle is about 3 km.

Our state opposition is making it an election platform to go back to 10% as anything less is revenue raising
