hey guys,

im having a bit of trouble understanding my r34 gt auto. my malfunction indicator light keeps popping up on my dash randomly. mostly when i just start my car. i took it to get the computer scanned and alls they could tell me is that there was a code 21 in the computer which they had no idea what it was. im really worried that it is going to cause more problems in the future. does anyone have any idea what code 21 is. they deleted it off my computer but the light is still popping up. as far as i can tell my car is still driving pretty good. it takes it's time changing gears sometimes but it has always done that being an auto. would love some feedback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CARLY :ermm:

yer well it has only just started to misfire which sux! i have been told that i should wait until it gets a bit worse so they can locate which coil is on its way out.... hopefully not all of them!!!!!!!!!! it is starting to feel a bit shit when i drive and yes actually i have noticed the noise from my car is a hell of a lot louder in the last few days. do any of you guys know round about how much they would cost? is it something you can fix at home rather then having to spend a lot to get it done through the mechanics?

Get splitfires, do it at home in an arvo.

Don't replace factory Nissan coils one by one with factory Nissan coils, they're all going to die prematurely and it's not worth the headache.

Put the splitfires in, then smile to yourself knowing you will NEVER have an issue again

i agree with Dan there, i did that, replaced 2 coilpacks with stock nissan ones (which at the time were worth about 180 each) and then when the 3rd one went i got the splitfires and i am glad i did. so take some good advice and go with the splitfires, they arte a lot cheaper now from when i had to get them

:P

splitfire coilpacks are between 500 and 600 depending where you order them from and how much delivery is. there are also rip off ones but im not sure how they rate, have read that they're ok for budget coilpacks, but some people on sau are really against them.

its an easy job to change them. i used the following tut to get to my spark plugs

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Di...tml&hl=coil

pay particular attention to step 5, its very important to get that exactly right :P

i have the same problem on my gtt, will eventually save up to get coilpacks which will hopefully fix other random noises when the car is idling. i guess i'll get a constant miss soon enough to hurry me up tho lol

i priced the splitfire coil packs but im a bit broke atm. is there a second brand any of use would recommend a little cheaper? see this is the bad thing about imports!!!! as good as they are :)

i priced the splitfire coil packs but im a bit broke atm.

lol, same problem as mine. stock coilpacks only last like 120000kms so its def worth replacing them all. look at import sites like justjap

http://justjap.com/store/search.php?mode=search&page=1

there's no doubt other sites and other types of coilpacks. these may not last long tho, splitfires are the most praised coilpacks

my car absolutely sharted itself today!!!!!!!!!!! i had just started my car and seriously the whole thing was shaking! sounded like i had a massive turbo but sadly no my bf says my coils must have completely died...... not something i wanted to hear. t'ville is a bitch to get coils but i ended up getting a 6pk online. i went for yellowjacket cause they seemed pretty good. sorry i couldnt go for the splitfire ones dudes lol really would have liked to but im only part time and since it was spire the moment i just got what was there. hopefully that fixes the ignition light in my car. so sick of the reminder!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shall keep u posted

yes, please do. i'll be looking at some yellow jackets soon. birds was saying good things about them in the oil topic (at least i think it was the oil topic). they're probably about as good as the splitfires, but if worse comes to worse and they last only half as long as the nissan coilpacks, thats still ~60000km

lol well their website seems pretty good. it shows the colour of the spark compared to another and it is super bright. i think i payed $400 plus $20 postage. they are based in NSW and they said it would take 3 days so i cant wait because i wont drive my car until they come! ..... so shame having to drive my dads falcon!!!!!! so ugly. yellowjacks should be fine. im only planning on having my car for another 4-5 years before family come into the picture so at least it wont be my problem if they do go again.

has just ran into a big problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my bf told me he knew how to put in the coil pack but now after looking at it he has no idea!!!!!! do any of use know where i could get some kind of step by step instructions????????????? i have had a look on the forums but nothing for what i need. biggest problem being until i find instructions i cant drive my baby. so whoever can help me out i will love you forever lol  <-- thats just awesome

my bf told me he knew how to put in the coil pack but now after looking at it he has no idea!!!!!!

Your bf skills are a lie!!!!

LOL I just wrote the whole thing and realised you've got an n/a :S They're nice and quick!!!!

OK parts that are essential to remove are-

The engine cover (4 bolts)

Remove the twin entry manifold that crosses over the engine (couple of bolts, be careful of the thin metal gasket)

Remove the PCV pipe that crosses the cover

undo the allen key screws, then take off the cover to get access to the packs

its really straight forward, just takes a little bit of time the first time (tho mine's a turbo).

follow these, give yourself an hour or so and enjoy!

more bad news guys!!!! :domokun: mine is the neo motor and it seems a lot different than what use have given me but thanks a bunch for helping me out. think i wil just have to bite the bullet and go to my mechanic. i asked him today how much it would cost and he said about $80 which is pretty good. would have liked to pay nothing though lol if use knew where i could find the neo version of what use found that would be great but otherwise i dont think i have any other choice lol

search the diy topics if you really want, but its exactly the same principle. i have a gtt, so neo turbo.

take off the engine cover, then intake piping, then undo the screw holing wires onto the long bit of plastic in the middle of the engine, then undo the bolts on that bit of plastic, then you can see the 6 coilpacks, unplug them carefully and replace. it is really straightforward, and seeing as the car isn't on the road just go out and have a play with the socket set, it is really really easy.

btw throw some new plugs in while you're in there, probably just go bkr6e's if you're stock, or whatever the repco guy suggests, if you replace them regularly then there's no problem with coppers, if you want to spend the money go platinums or iridiums from ngk, or for only ~$40 get 6 bosch platinums, its what im gonna do next, the code is FR7DPX for the bosch's

    • Drilled the rubber out on a slow speed and it didn't catch much at all. Probably only half a dozen holes was enough to shred the rubber and it dropped off easily leaving the inner sleeve behind. Will tackle that later
    • I havent bought a manual cover for the dash yet and no cluster change, won't bother me too much, I just need to get that auto box gone, manual in! I miss my manual. 🤪. We started last weekend and managed to get the box out. Planning to start putting it in this weekend and then order a single piece tail. We were super careful to take time and not damage anything. It's my first time working under the car.  With my S15 mainly worked in the bay. This time, it was a headache because of three or four bolts only. They simply didnt want to leave thei homr and the one securing the tailshaft, another above the GB, and the one securing the lipstick was a shit. Mates mate, Davo caught fire 🤣, nearly opened his chest up with a grinder 🤦🏽‍♂️ and both mates nearly had a plate from the box land and slit their head open. Fun times. We all survived. Not the easiest working with limited access on jackstands. As I'm sure we can agree these are the memories which make us love our car. For all three of us, was an awesome weekend and Sunday 3.30am before tools down was a fantastic effort. I need to upload pics, but looks like it needs to be via Url now. We used to be able to just upload pics back in the day. It's been that long! 🤪 Im currently spraying rustoleum under body, not because it's rusted. It's super clean, but just so it's protected for the next 10 years. There was a few surface rust spots. Which pretty much wiped off with a 3M scourer.  Really impressed with how well the previous owner maintained it. Bank account went down so quick! Service, then GB - managed to get a spanking new 34 genuine box from Nissan. All the rest of the conversion parts from Kudos.  Went with a Nismo short shifter. New pedals and Exedy Clutch and FW. Ordered the Prp Rear Main Retainer kit which should arrive Friday and my first engine mod part just like I did with my S15 will be the Tomei Expreme Turbo Outlet. Already on order. It'll likely sleep next to me on a pillow during the coming months. 🥰 Last build was on my JET200GT profile and on SAU and Hardtuned I had documented the build. Planning to try to do that again. Brands feel scarce now. Wish we still had ARC and Apexi parts readily available. Exhaust - need some advice on this. I had an Apexi exhaust on the S15 and loved the tone. My mate had a HKS HP Silent on his 33 and suggested I go with that to avoid drone. I can't remember hearing an RB25DET running that so will likely need to wait for a meet or something to hear it.  Not after big power, just enjoy building it, and drivability with minimal negative attention.
    • Have a chat with Ben at Moore Performance or Jesse at JS Performance.
    • Thanks both. All good advice. Reminds me of drilling through stone wall for drainage pipe 😬 I'll let you know how I get on if I still have use of my hands afterwards 😅
    • Finally got shipping number for the intake and throttle body, shipped by UPS, so "should" be in my hands sometime next week, fingers fracking crossed
