yeh true that man, guards are all sweeet ziptie'd em back together looks "ok" haha hope ya back on the road soon cya next time

Haha, that is easy fix!

Hey Grant, sorry to hear about your misfortune, the joys of owning a GT-R!!!

Couldn't come and pick you up myself as it was my wife's birthday today and promised her I'd take her out for the day with the little one.

Sorry for the late sms reply aswell, was a little tied up and had my phone on silent, tried ringing my dad and couldn't get through to him for over an hour due to reception issues.

Just so you and other members are aware we usually charge $3.30/km (from pick up point to delivery) on long trips and if you do the math it works out to over $800 from Apollo Bay to Frankston South.

Many might think $600 is a bit steep for the tow, but I'd find it hard to believe there would be many other towing companies that would have done it cheaper on a Sunday and without it being a 'backload'.

Another good reason to have SAU membership!!! I look after members as best I can, not to mention the care taken in loading/restraint/unloading...

I own a GT-R myself, so it helps...

Anyway, hope it's nothing major and your back on the road ASAP...

Cheers,

Jack

Jack,

No worries on the delay in responding to my texts and many thanks for sending your father to middle of nowhere to pick the broken GTR on day like today. When RACV won't go further than Apollo Bay and others wanted $900-ish.

Yes your dad did a wonderful job with putting my GTR on his tray with care cos I know RACV wouldn't care about lowered cars.

I'll defintely use Citywide Towing again in future, and Jack, I'll send you a text to sort one trip from my house to mechanic once I've make arrangements.

I've said on other thread that SAU membership is the best 50 bucks I've spent.

Cheers

Grant

p.s. I hope I never break down in middle of nowhere again!

Hi all,

My day trip to the cruise has become a overnighter.

So I'm writing this thread to give my thanks to everyone who have helped me on this debacle of my money pit.

Firstly, I'd like to say many thanks to the following members of this wonderful club;

- John (ssxricho) for telling me not to drive home like I originally planned - truly wise move. Also the group I was going to cruise home with for stopping to check on me.

- Wayne, for organising tow truck from Jack who sent his father to come and pick me, my friend Peter and my broken GTR.

- Dave (sarumatix) for trying his best to try get RACV to organise a tow (they won't go further than Apollo Bay for some reason) and booking a motel room for me in advance. Also helping me diagonise the damn thing.

- Leon for offering me his car to get trailer which I politely refused and don't feel bad about me.

- Hamish for telling me the bright side of this (and your girlfriend which I forgot her name for her pity and a 'performance' which was very amusing!) also cheers for the drinks.

The following people who also helped me when they shouldv'e enjoyed the night and relaxing after a long day;

- Ali

- Alan

- Charles (for getting carby cleaner and tools if these were yours?)

- Ron

I think there's many more but couldn't remember now - feel free to remind me.

To these people and their companion, I'd like to express my thanks to you all for me stealing the 'show'.

I'd like to say thanks for Charles and Wanzi (what was your name btw?) for giving me and Peter a lift to/from town this morning.

I also would like to say thanks to Chris (Jack's father - JAGR33) for towing me home from a place with vague mobile reception!

Lastly, I'd like to thank my friend Peter who I asked to tag along with me for this adventure which turned into a interesting weekend which I won't forgot for such a long time!

So, I'll keep you posted on what is going on with my money pit, tomorrow, I'll try to have a chat with Trent @ Status.

Cheers

Grant

p.s. Ali, I have the tools in my boot now, let me know when you want it back, once many thanks for helping me and using your tools.

Hahah aww not even a mention :) lol oh well I do what I do to help not for the glory. Hope it all worked out and was cheap bro. Hopefully see you soon!

Hey James, sorry I forgot, cos too many new faces and have trouble remembering all on top of broken GTR and frantically trying to organise towing. Thanks for lending me your tools or what was it (feel free to refresh my memory)?

600 pinga from Apollo to Frangers.... BARGAIN!!! Like you said, no other towing company would have even come close to that! Add the care taken in loading and it quicky adds up to a MAJOR bargain!

Yeah, I was very impressed with price and service given, and I've left a message to Jack about towing from my place to Status hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday.

I ended up going to the route home I was supposed to cruise with stage 1 in tow truck so I have new name for this route 'Route $600' Otways is kinda scary (in tow truck!) - may need roll cage and a satellite phone before going there.

I had a chat with Trent, covered all the problem I encountered yet I forgot to mention him about screeching sound from rear turbo - any idea what is it?

Trent reckons it could be 'cooler piping loose - we checked them but looked tight while front end is still on, so better remove the front end and check just to be sure. I have a feeling the BOV could leak and will have AFM looked at and go from there.

So, will know more when the R is in Status and have Trent look at it over. Fun times ahead...

Cheers

Grant

sucks that it happened on the cruise mate, but i'm sure we'll be seeing you on a lot more from now on :P

*crossing my fingers for ya*

Hamish,

Thanks and I'll be coming to events in future when I've got it sorted and hopefully it doesn't break down again.

Cheers

Grant

Trent reckons it could be 'cooler piping loose

Funny he should say that, that was the first thing I checked when myself and Mick (stagea) caught up to you guys, pitty I didn't have my tools with me or we could have tightened them all up, you don't get a lot of room in the front of a 33R so I couldn't get a real good pull on teh hoses but they all felt secure, only prob is that at 10+ PSI they are going to be swelling up a little ans may leak then, or could have a split in them further up where I couldn't get to.

Either way let us know I really want to know what caused it so I know next time if it happens to someone else.

I'm not sure what the squeeling from the rear turbo would have been, I didn't hear it but it could be a number of things, wastegate stuck open, bearings, seal.

^^^ Hey, what's your name by the way?

I did suggested to check the 'cooler piping but would need to remove the whole front end to have a proper look.

Yes I'm agonising to find out what's the problem so tomorrow or wednesday I'll find out, like everyone I'm hoping for minor and easy to fix (it's a GTR, I doubt it'll be easy and minor).

we found metal shavings on top of your pistons man, and found tiny particles in your oil

i hope i was just pissed and seeing things

Hmm... could it be copper from the spark plugs?

I've been informed by John (ssxricho) about the squealing sound on rear turbo, he described it as metal rubbing - he think it could be different material of gasket on exhaust manifold gasket?

Or is this the sound of seized turbo?

Any other ideas?

Jarrod :) I got there after it happened with Stagea Mick I was in silver 32R

Yeah I got my skinny arm down as far as I could on the drivers side from the top behind the cooler, but really needed to get at it from underneath and no chance of doing that where the car was parked up on that corner.

On Top of the pistons??? so could be turbo, cooler, bearings???

i hope i was just pissed and seeing things

Jarrod,

The metal shavings were on 3rd cylinder and I still have oil pressure though and I was able to start it everytime and I don't think anyone heard knocking sound.

Will tell Trent to do a compression and leak down test just to make sure.

Did you see blue-ish smoke coming out of exhaust?

It has become a very expensive day trip...

it'll be in very good hands. Smart move :(

2.8 stroker, t51r, v cam will probably need to be installed at the same time i think.... you know.... just to make sure everything is ok :)

sorry to hear about the breakdown though... especially given the location! Major kudos to Jack and crew for organising the pick-up though!

sooo many people helping out too... very cool :)

No mate I didn't, Mick and I rolled up after you had already shut the car off. Blue smoke is bad, black is ok but not blue, Oil getting burnt is not a good thing. Could very well be turbo related, maybe you shot a wheel off or something?

Grant mate. Its never a good sign to see a bonnet up and bits sitting everywhere.....

Jack has always looked after the guys. ive come close to needing his services myself. perfect time for the upgrades though mate and i hope it all turns out well. next time ill sit down and have a few beers with ya
