Brake Upgrade Brackets

Hey guys

just wondering if anyone has some sort of cad file for some brake adapter brackets

looking to upgrade the brakes on my car and was thinking of rendering it up on catia (what my uni uses) or inventor (students get a free download)

i'm thinking that i'll make a bracket to run GTR brambo rotors with r33 callipers (bought what i thought were r34 callipers for my stagea but they are 12mm bolts not 14 like mine so now i have callipers i cant use etc)

I should also have access to a laser cutter too

But before i start i thought i would ask if anyone has some already on file (can change mounting bolt hole sizes easily if the are 12mm currently)

Also trying to work out weather to make it an L shape bracket (not with a 90° bend but like 30°) or a dog bone shape (holes almost ontop of each other, just offset a little)

Thanks in advance if you can help,

Tom

I personally dont like brackets, get a sleeve turned up as per J's post.

I have the same issue, R32 gtr callipers to go onto my 14mm M35 mounts. I have a lathe to turn them up though. :)

find some stainless pipe with 12mm id and 1mm wall thickness then cut to length

sorry guys, i have r33 gts25t callipers and can get brembo rotors for $250

so instead of messing around with adapting to run 296mm rotors i wanna run 324mm rotors then have a bracket with 14mm bolt holes for the stagea and 12mm bolt holes for the 33 calliper

the gtst calipers wont swallow anything larger than 300mm rotors anyhow...only around 3/4 of the disk gets used with the 324mm ones

I made my own adapter to run the 324mm rotors on my 32gtst about 8 years ago before I had even heard of anybody else doing it. I was a piece of piss. I think I used around 6 or 8 mm plate and a couple weld on spacers. Took a little while (few hours) to get the wooden template right and about an hour to make. Obviously had been done by someone somewhere before me as it an easy upgrade.

The gtst calipers are almost the same length pad as a brembo and the only real difference is the brembo pad is about a 1/4 inch higher.

Go the bigger dia. Its a 10% bigger dia. Don't think Zebra gets it as what you want it is the extra braking force from the larger dia disk plus they run cooler since they don't have to do as much work. UAS sell the adapters.

found someone willing to post some 34 brakes so will be going for those and sell my 33 callipers (or put them on my 31, but i dont think it will clear the wheels)

would be nice to make this up but its gonna work out cheaper to do the 34 brakes if i can sell my 33 callipers off

quick question for you guys,

do you do any calcs to determine the thickness and rigidity of the brakets? if you did, what method do you use to determine the brake forces and such?

or is it based off experience?

generally you can do it off experience, just make sure its strong enough that the original bolt is going to be the first thing to break, and its stiff enough not to vibrate or do anything dodgy. There really isn't as much force going through brakes as most people probably think.

As said above 324mm rotors really dont work with r33 calipers, as the curve of the caliper is wrong. Even after modifying the caliper(which is pretty dodgy), the pad still hangs off the edge of the rotor

I don't have any pad overhang or if I do it 1mm and I haven't modified the calliper. You must have had some dodgy brackets!

All you geeks have no idea. Why is it dodgy. It works fine and is the cheapest upgrade you can do. Make some free brackets or waste over 1k on brembo's just to hava a brembo badge. Stop touching yourself. I wouldn't even care if I did/do have overhang. It would make changing the pads and disks easier because they don't get caught on the lip of the disk.

Are the std brakes dodgy becuase they don't optimise the whole disk because there is a 1-2mm area on the od that doesn't get used.

Dodgy my arse!!!

Sydneykid used to use this bracket on his track cars and I have also cut a lot of laps with homemade and bought brackets and never had a problem.

easy tiger....adriano is one of the few on here who does know what he's talking about!

but like you say, different brackets might have better or worse results. certainly plenty of people have run the UAS adapters with good results. And no doubt the gtr brembos are very poor value for a small upgrade in size over standard calipers

Maybe r32 and r33, gtr and gtst and z32 calipers are different in this regard. To fit them to a set of 330mm discs, we had to grind the inside edge of the caliper almost all the way to the bolt that holds the caliper together, which i consider far from optimal. This allowed the edge of the pad to be almost flush with the edge of the disc with the inside of the caliper being about 1.5mm from the disc. However maybe the calipers were different, or the pads, or even the discs possibly. We did question this at the time as i knew UAS sold brackets, and we couldnt see how this was done commercially. PS Im not sure which calipers we had(They all look the same, but i was told they were 33gtst)

    • Hi all,   I have been a member here for years and am back to owning an R35.  It's my car and thought members of the community might enjoy sharing my journey.  I am definitely here to join the conversation.  If sharing this content isn't appropriate or it belongs somewhere else, I am happy to have it deleted or moved...
    • Data looks rock solid? I'm assuming you jabbed the throttle twice OR once? the TPS voltage moves up and down twice, however you've mentioned you did it once.
    • Having not watched the videos, I'm unsure, but this may be better suited to the importing thread?
    • Update on this situation: (Forgot to put in my previous post that I bought another brand new pressure gauge and fuel shows the same 50psi) I've deleted all the aftermarket immobilizers and turbo timer shyt and placed all factory wiring back to normal. The problem is still the same and nothing changed, but atleast it's a bit more tidier under the steering wheel. I've also siphoned out all the old fuel and then poured new batch of BP98 fuel (about 15L) into the tank. Nothing changed. Still the same idle. I also changed out the MAP vac line with a new one and, still the same.  So 2 days ago, I thought fk it. I'll just change out the fuel rail and injectors with another set that I know worked well in my brother's R34 a while back. That other fuel rail has the exact same Xspurt 640cc as what I have right now. So I changed it out to that other fuel rail and injectors (new O-rings) and injector harness. Put everything back together, started the engine, 464906286_1624569924763105_5179888796065901094_n.mp4   and yeah... still the same 50psi and idle problem. 🫠 I can also hear each of injector's solenoids running when I put a screw driver to it and have the other end to my ear. I might get a noid light just to confirm pulsasion but yeah, very strange that both fuel rails and injectors put out 50psi.  31-10-2024.csv I've attached it here. I started recording, then started the engine and let it idle with no throttle, then at the end I applied a little throttle and then stopped recording.    So, now idk. I'm going to see if swapping out the brand new R35 coils to my old splits fires will change anything. 🤷‍♂️
    • Hey mate, nice work on the car. Just a quick note, people generally don't like it when you use the forums to dump and run to advertise your YouTube content. If you're gonna stick around and join in the conversation then great, but if not this might not be the best place for you.
