Saw the jpave pics of his wreck. Looking at the car I am surprised, no worried, that the air bags didn"t go off.

Has any member had a similar experience? Crash and no bag?

I dont know much about air bags. How do you check that they are armed. Is there some way that they are checked during commpliance. Or is it just a tick.

Would be interested to hear about this as I just got my son a 25G with air bags, and want to reassure that he is well protected.

i don't know which car you are talking about, but i am assuming you are referring to the banana'd m35? if that's the car and they didn't go off it's because it was a side impact, not frontal.

you don't really want an airbag going off in your face when you're getting hit from the side

I had a front collision, got hit at about 90kmph in the front left headlight...no airbags.... but the crash it self just felt like what i always wanted bumper cars to feel like. The stag sure is sturdy. The lady that hit me, her Barina was crumpled to the firewall...and alas no air bags went off

You can get hit from the side and end up with the steering column in your puss.

The inference is that the M35 rolled. Fark, that must have got the bag sensors in a knot.

When do air bags go off?

Do you like, have to have bags front , back and sides?? How safe is a vehicle with only fronts?

But what I am getting at is are the air bags in imports ready to work, and if so what assurance do we have?? I mean with an import you can have bags 360 degrees, if they dont go off you are well and truly in deep sh*t.

That M35 did not roll. The listing by Pickles is wrong. It was a straight side on impact.

Most M35 only have airbags in front of the 2 front seats.

Mind you in the same circumstances i hope mine would deploy as I have the safety pack that has 6 airbags. The extra 4 are in the sides of the front seats and the curtain airbags on the windows.

My old man had a B5-series Audi A4 that was hit at the front and written off, but the airbags never went off. I'm pretty sure it's because he was stationary at the time, and it was the car that hit him that was moving, so the airbag computers were "missing" one of the key ingredients (i.e. speed) in the sequence of things to check before firing them off.

When my car left the road at about 100k and hit a culvert both front airbags deployed and i have no doubt they saved me from serious injury. I got out with just a scratch on my elbow ( car w/o) . there was a previous thread on Stagea safety and the 5 star rating appears well deserved (and the 1800kg mass is a plus in a head-on).

I was recently on a job for a certain car magazine and was speaking to an automotive crime scene investigator and this was my first question and his response was 'It would scare you if you knew how many don't deploy'.

I saw a number of late model BMW's, Merc's, Audi's etc with huge front impacts and no sign of the airbags... scary shit. :D

Chris.

I was in a mazda 323 that deflected off a solid concrete wall at 70km/h, it was a complete write off too but the bags didnt go off, think it just has to be a really really hard front on impact to set them off, and also when u turn ur car on there is an air bag light that comes on for a few secs and gos off after the computer has checked ur air bags are all sweet so im assuming if ur light gos off then u should be sweet

Hmm, I would assume the same as well. However i have seen a crash before in which a car tapped its front bumper into another car...probs not even going 5kmph...and both front air bags deployed. Was a holden Viva.

Airbags are all controlled by a g force sensor, under the centerconsol in stags, there very dangerous if they go off In the wrong type of crash tho! Look at bit sus crash, he t boned someone at 60 ks per hr in his s1 260, radiatotor support hit the cas n that's it! Could have been way uglier! Any car is only as safe as the tool driving towards you! The reality is you take the risk everytime u press "unlock"!!

I have written off 2 s40 volvos, if I was to choose my demolition derby car I know what I'd get lol! Very very safe cars
