evo will never be an option, a rex, well yer mabey.

As for cosmetics it dosent bother me to much, only thing i would do is roll the guards and a new paint job.

Anyone had info on were to look at or purchase GTR running gear.?

probably wouldn't want to spend more then 10- 15k in the end.

alot of the ground work can get done now such as suspension, brake upgrades.

also i assume i would need a change of cluster??

U dnt need gtr running gear unless u want to spend the extra $, i whacked on stagea hubs and gtst calipers and cheering.

Spent no more then 6k which included 5 stud conver. parts, motor, labour, missing bits n pieces etc.

Don't need to change ur cluster it will still work, gearbox will b fine. im running about 190AWKW with the na gbox no problems.

pretty str8 forward swap.

im with most of the other people on here dont bother doing engine swap! just not worth it.

another option would be to buy a r32 gts-4 there turbo, gtst brakes etc etc.

iv owned one for over a year now and love it, s*#t loads on fun in the hills and on the track, handles great

doesn't hav the go of a GTR but you can pick one up for what you sell yours for with abit of change leftover

(if you got 10k for it) to spend on it......

Pulsar gti-r. 4WD, light and nimble little car to begin with, SR20DET power and relatively easy to modify should the desire strike you. And staying Nissan.

But also very small and cramped for passengers.

Don't go the conversion route, unless money is no object. Look at the Advan gts/gtr/gts4 car. Then realise why people don't do it.

What is it with people who think 4wd help them get through corners?

4wd is good in the wet or good for getting out of corners if you have big HP, but top speed, braking and corner speed are generally worse when two equivalent cars, one 4wd and one 2wd are put side by side.

Anyway, back on topic.

Dump you current ride and grab a 32 or 33 GTR. Guaranteed you will be glad you went down that path. So much cheaper (than doing it properly) and easier and in the long run your car won't be a worthless mongrel.

Either that or as has been said, a GTiR Pulsar.

2wd vs 4wd 911 porsches go head-to-head

whenever the back wheels might spin there's an opportunity for 4wd to do the job better. also 4wd less likely to put you in the ditch

That's was cool.

Not fair, but cool.

Put them on somewhere like Phillip Island and watch the 2wd eat the 4wd.

Nope don't agree , the greatest advantage of AWD is having 100% of the weight of the car on its driving wheels .

I am Evolution Mitsubishi biased and the surprising thing is they don't cost the earth if you take your time and shop around .

The economics .

You get a lot better basis in an Evo than you do in anything Nissan . The fact that they went through so many detail changes between 1 and 10 means they evolved significantly and updated every two or so years . There is so much good bolt on gear available for Evos and a lot of it looks like the factory gear does .

A four wheel drive Skyline is a major effort to do anything to and the parts are generally very expensive .

The Drive .

I was taken for a run in modified Evo 7 and had the opportunity to drive a really clean bog std Evo 6 for a few hours and it was very interesting . Straight away you can feel that the steering is very sharp and more precise than my GTS25T and the cornering abilities in the twisty windies leaves you wondering if there are limits - which there obviously are .

My R33 has the Sk Bilstein Whiteline suspension and light 17 x 8.5 Rays wheels and good Michelin rubber under it but didn't have a hope of staying with that Lancer on its std 11 yr old suspension and 17 x 7.5s with Bridgestone Potenza RE01R's .

And the brakes , OMG , the biggest worry in those cars is getting rear ended when everyone else can't pull up quick enough .

The look .

If you want to get noticed Evos are a great way to do it because they stand out in a crowd . The nose the bonnet the Brembos and the F18 parked on the bootlid . That big intercooler out front for all the world to see - legally .

The Subaru crowd got really paranoid when I drove that Lancer round the burbs , I wonder if they'd worked it out ...

Why not a Rex ?

IMO better developed suspension as OE and a more reliable transmission . Oh and a useful boot compared to a GC8 .

Bottom line .

Smaller lighter and more nimble than any six cylinder Skyline and far cheaper to get organ relocating capability out of .

Evos are really more STi territory than the usual WRX's but if you buy wisely you can get down into upper normal WRX money for what I think are better cars .

Street car performance wise ? To me what happens over 140 clicks is irrelevant , the Skylines Evos and Rexs can easily do more std but its how they get there that's significant .

I found Evos to be deceptive because they , with the std (E4 and later) , twin scroll turbo system build boost and torque in a MUCH more controllable fashion than most things and don't give the illusion of speed like a lot of cars do . Much more linear torque delivery and mind numbing abilities to get it to the ground .

I just want one ...

A .

YEh you might find A GTR for 20k CLEAN MAYBEEEEE 15% chance, 85% you will have to spend another 10 k To get it back to excellent standards + plus start modding the thing and watch the money out of your wallet go flying... these days VERY hard to get a clean GTR might look clean in the outside but drive it for 10,000 kms and watch the problems start arising, And when i mean Drive it i mean Drive it how a GTR is meant to be driven not like a camry!!

Edited by GTRAAH

i did the opposite for a while when stoopid and on my p's (driving a camry like a gtr) these days it is not a happy car, always breaking engine mounts, constantly black oil and the auto transmission feels like someone kicked you haha. tis my lil brothers now

I'm planning to go the GTS4 plus turbo, as the spending starts when you buy a "Cheap GTR" servicing repairs insurance. Extra price whack for everything GTR related. Upgrading a GTS4 seems to be at the ordinary Nissan Rates. To me GTS upgrade may come up but every thing has been checked and serviced, and is servicable compared to a "cheap gtr".

whenever the back wheels might spin there's an opportunity for 4wd to do the job better. also 4wd less likely to put you in the ditch

i think you may find it's actually the opposite

having 4wd gives you this magical hope it will be ok so you go harder and push your skills harder only to find you still come off 2nd best

i think theres a lot of hero mode when a gtr is the car of choice as dont worry bro, 4wd will save you and you push yourself harder

ie you might not normally take that corner as hard in a RWD car as you know it will slip but 4wd has the assumption it wont slip but it doesnt always work that way

fixed

Its been a while now so im bumping this, ive concidered my options

1- Rb25det Stag motor

2- Rb26dett

3- Rb25/30

Now if its none of these its selling up and buying a GTR, but to be honest i dont want the attention of a GTR, GTS sleeper is more my style

If i go the 25det from the stag i might aswell spend a few extra thou on the motor and go the 26 from the start,

But also been reading into the 25/30,

Now im going to weigh up all the costs things i would need to do to my GTS4 such as 5 stud conversion, breaks, suspension, fuel pumps, gear box, labour.

If figures start to get over 25k its buy a GTR. probly even debadge it, some Blue GT side badges ;)

yeah I agree. $25-$30K is the more realistic budget for a really nice GTR. but I still think it's worth doing. sell your car for $10K, then you just need $15-$20K to get yourself into a really neat lightly modded GTR. better brakes, better driveline, better interior, better wheels, better bodywork, better resale, better engine, better diff, do I need to go on???

haha no you dont need to go on, i think im sold on all of that, As much as i would like to source parts and get a build done i just dont think it will be as enjoyable with all the headaches involved.

Now the question is Twin or Big single, it never ends haha
