Hey ,

Has any one used the " USA SPEC ' PA15 - NIS modulator for connecting your Ipod to the standard Double Din head unit ( non bose ) on the 02 on models ?

Ive looked on there site http://usaspec.com/product.php?ProductID=3...ceShowProduct=1

Seems you have to have a SAT button for these to work apparantly after emailing them and my model does not have Sat Nav.

Any Ideas ?

Or any other ideas of connecting your Ipod without changing the head unit or using one of those Fm modulators ?

cheers guys

I am pretty sure Iamhe77 has used this on his M35. If hot the 15 the model before. When you use this type of unit you can control the ipod trough the steering wheel stereo controls.

I used an RCA input on my TV tuner for the ipod because I wanted to use it for movies also.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy ,

I wonder if Iamhe77 had a SAT button on his deck as this is what USA spec are saying you need if this is to work , i dont have Sat nav nor steering wheel buttons . They list the Infinity G35 which has the same deck as ours ..

Is your ipod connected directly to your head unit asuming you have a factory head deck and running a LCD screen ?

cheers james

No, he has the standard non bose 6 disc unit.

There is a company in Australia (Audio Express) or member Chris Rogers who sells the on steering control module. It is an easy self install.

I installed an Asuka Digital TV tuner which connects to the OEM TV tuner and then got a cable from the US that plugs into the base of the Ipod and has the 3 RCA plugs plus a power cable which is plugged into the Asuka TV tuner. You need the Factory T tuner to be able to do this.

So yes, playing through the OEM screen VIA the TV tuner.

No, he has the standard non bose 6 disc unit.

He actually doesn't have the 6 disc, (RS so only single CD for him), but I do have the non-bose 6 disc on my ARX, and have the PA15 NIS installed. Works brilliantly and I even have the output from my Jap spec Panasonic Sat Nav connected to the spare inputs on the PA15, so that when we play DVDs the sound comes through the stereo..

It is the CD/CHG button that is important, not the SAT one... Good thing about this unit as well, is that it works with all iPods, some of them only work with the older ones or won't charge iPhones..

I also have one of these, Griffin Tune center, which I can use as an alternative to the PA15, when I want to watch vidoes from the iPod on the sat nav screen, or for when I want to see playlist, track playing info etc. which the PA15 cannot do. This just plugs into the aux input on the satnav, and as mentioned before, the aux output from the satnav, goes into the PA15..

Pretty happy with it all and also got this, IR Extender, so that the remote control for the Tune Center still works.

Got all of it on eBay. The IR extender and the Tune center were dirt cheap, the PA15, was not... I tend to use the Tune center for long drives when I want to do more than just select a specific playlist, or maybe video for my toddler, but the PA15 for everyday use.

Took a couple of hours to fit, and whilst the centre console was apart, also fixed the tiptronic shift direction to how it should be, ie back for up, forward for down..

Nah mate, I have the OEM Clarion unit (single DIN - My RS has the three guages below it).

I have the PA11-NIS in mine, very easy install once you get the console apart.

Plugs straight into the rear of the unit (plugs are obvious where they go).

I only need to hit the AUX button on my head unit to switch from radio to CD, then to iPod.

The stereo buttons still control the tracks (skip, back etc).

I am pretty sure that the "SAT" button will display information from the PA15 on the popup screen (the PA11 does not have this facility) but is not necessary to listen to your tunes.

I think that rather than the pop up screen this info would be shown in the inline screen on the stereo, so wont work on our segment numeric displays, that cannot show letters...

Probalby would show this info on a PM35 unit..

Also, you reminded me, I only have the PA11, not the PA15... wishful thinking..

Not too sure how this guy has done his:

Thought you might want to see it though.

Chris.

i will be seeing him next week. From memory they used the RCA plugs into the tv tuner but they built a custom mount for the ipod in the ash tray. Thinking of trying this myself to neaten up the front of the car.

Hey Guys .. gee thanks , wealth of info here and idea's , glad i asked 1st .

So Nick you have the 6 changer non bose like me and it works !!, but you say the CD/CHG botton is important .. i dont have this but do have " DISC " button on the top left of the deck .. is this the same thing as the CD/CHG button ?

The guys at USA spec seem to think if i press the CD button twice it will work in external changer mode but they have no garantee's.

I really want to keep the OE deck for looks wise to keep it clean on the eye.

If you guys think my DISC button will do the trick ill place my order with them :ermm:

Also looking at this ipod classic cradle and this Dash specific mount , yes its LHD but with the ball socket on the cradle you can tilt it to the RH side.

Thanks for your help again guys.

James

The Pro Clip mount works, I have it on my car.

have a look at this though. I would do this if doing it again. http://stores.homestead.com/2point5/-strse...V2AV/Detail.bok

Damit you have thrown a spanner in the works !! that looks like the trick though , very neat in the Ash tray :ermm:

I think though if you want the Head unit to operate the ipod controls then its this one ash tray full option

They dont mention the need for a SAT button or CD.CHG button , do you think it still applies like the USA SPEC one ? or its a cert working fit on my deck ?

Nice find :)

As far as I know the one you have selected has all the workings to plug straight in and work.

Things are looking good :) thanks for that , ive sent them a mail .

Does your Deck have the " Disc ' button or the CD / CHG button ? you said before yours was a double din non Bose and no factory SAT and you got the USA spec to work .

Yes exactly the same...

Basically, as long as your audio will control an external Disc changer, then it will work with the PA15. That is how it works. You create NISSAN1, NISSAN2 etc. playlists on the iPod, and the car audio treats each of these as if it were a seperate disc in an external changer...

I had a reply from these guys and looks the best of the bunch , Nice find any :D ill place my order and let you know how it goes , like the idea of no cables showing and using the ash tray.

" The interface we use for the Infiniti G35s is capable of interfacing with sat radios(what most people sell) as well as non sat radios (like you have). You would access the iPod by pressing the "cd" or "disc" button. You will be able to keep your in dash cd functionality as well. We haven't been able to test with your type car directly as it's not available in the states but it looks just like the early G35s we have worked on. As with all our products if you aren't satisfied with it then it can be returned in like new condition within 30 days for a full refund less shipping costs."
