Randon_I_Am
As my sig says, i have a r34gtt and would like to install somewhere into it a afr guage, but i don't know what to get. I've been looking just at Ebay so far and not sure if i need a narrowband, or wideband guage? thanks for all your helpfull replies Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/ Share on other sites
JonnoHR31
why do you want one? the gauges that wire into the standard narrowband sensors might aswell be used for drink holders, dont waste your money proper afr gauges are hooked up to a wideband sensor through a controller, these are fairly expensive, which comes back to why do you want one? TiTAN
if you really want one. http://wbo2.com/ its going to cost $400-500 though. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5195033 Share on other sites
Randon_I_Am
figured it wasn't just a plug and play thing... i want one just to make sure I'm not running lean before i get to the dyno, changed to z32 afm and gonna upsize injectors before i get a new turbo. and rather than doing it all on the day and have mechanics there working on it, i'll just install the z32 and injectors beforehand. and yes i have a NIStune ecu so it's easy to change them in the software to get the car running OK but it won't be perfect... This is my Noobie reasoning anyway, feel free to poke holes in my plan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5195034 Share on other sites
Randon_I_Am
so basically if i can't get one for under $100 its not going to be worthwhile anyway... cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5195042 Share on other sites
JonnoHR31
just get it roughly right and drive it normally until its tuned. or if you have the nistune software and buy a wideband you could tune it yourself... Randon_I_Am
tuning myself interests me alot, I'm very new to it all and it'll be a learning experience... but without a dyno how do ya really go about it properly? It won't tell you anything. Totally pointless. Just drive it off boost, will be fine. JonnoHR31
never used nistune so not sure exactly how it works, but usually you use data logs from driving around Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5195101 Share on other sites
aphid
The old "Brake Dyno" is great for getting your afrs (fuel table) perfect, however to make good progress on the ignition table you'll need a dyno.. The old n00b tuner ethos of "wind up the ignition till she knocks, retard it a few degrees and she'll be right" really is very overated, although plenty of jap tuners seem to get away with decent results using this method =) Randon_I_Am said: tuning myself interests me alot, I'm very new to it all and it'll be a learning experience... but without a dyno how do ya really go about it properly? James_03
I run an AEM wideband on my gtr. Had to weld a bung into the first pipe to do it for the bosch o2. http://www.aemelectronics.com/wideband-air...o-gauge-kit-745 They are reasonably priced, and the controller is integrated into the gauge itself which is good. The gauge also has a 5v output to come back into a laptop for readings. Still probably a bit wank factor-ish, but it can never harm to know that the AFR's are good when you have the foot down. Plus it gave me something to do on a boring weekend. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5195331 Share on other sites
Thelen
I'm also interested in this, I looked at it ages ago for my prelude, didn't really come across any that were good and cheap, wasn't going to pay $500 for something. But $220 seems a lot more reasonable, anyone done that for a ECR33? TiTAN
you also have to take into account the cost of the wideband O2 sensor which is again another ~$200 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5196004 Share on other sites
zebra
I use the Tech Edge 2j1 and LCD display. Works fine what what I do as I log everything else off the ecu Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5196034 Share on other sites
BH_SLO32
I stumbled across a shootout of AFR gauges recently. Not a bad read. Wideband_O2_Shootout.pdfFetching info... paulr33
any wideband solution is going to cost $400 if its sub $100 its junk and not wideband if you dont know what you are doing with a wideband, then stop and dont do it you can kill your motor if you arent careful. there is lots of documentation on wideband tuning and AFR tuning so its not something new the consequenses if you get it very wrong howver could be burnt valves = rebuild light Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/317807-afr-guage/#findComment-5196143 Share on other sites

James_03
Quote you also have to take into account the cost of the wideband O2 sensor which is again another ~$200 The AEM kit mentioned comes with with the gauge and Bosch wideband sensor included for $220.
