I spoke to the seller, he said the guy that is flying over is brining cash for $42K and will buy it on Tuesday. I have to let him know if I am going to purchase it and place a deposit on it. The seller said he is happy for us to have it inspected by our mechanic so no probs there.

So the seller has pretty much got an overseas buyer already yet he's trying to sell the car to you? Uhhh ok

doesnt sound right.......

if someones bring cash to purchase it on tuesday, why would he sell it to you?

so the other guy can come here for nothing?

under law i believe thats a breach and he could get sued...

This is my old car, it seems. There is nothing wrong with it, and i took bloody good care of it, so i don't know what the seller is on about. It took me over a year to try and sell this, and thats dropping the price 8 grand.

It was very clean when i purchased it through an import company over east, except for the mentioned scratch.

Also, i could afford to keep it, but when you drive it once a month and start it just once every other week in the garage, i preferred it to go to someone who will actually use the car :D

I don't see how. If he has not had any signed agreement with the other buyer than he is under no obligation to sell it to him.

In any case, you will probably find that there is no buyer from over east and the owner is just using that story to pressure you into buying. Why would the buyer be bringing 42k when the car is only advertised for 40.8k? Don't be pressured into buying it, make sure you buy it on your own terms.

Martin - yeah i understand what you are saying. He may be bullshitting about the buyer from Adelaide, however he did tell me that the buyer emailed him copies of his flight itinerary to prove he was actually flying over to Perth (obviously i havn't seen this).

The seller told me that the guy from Adelaide has offered $42K with the power-fc and exhaust or $40.8K without them. He told me that if I am to buy the car, i will need to offer around the $42,750 mark so he can then cover the costs of the guy flying over from Adelaide.

Now I can either give him a deposit and then buy it mid-week, or not do anything and see if he still has the car by late next week or early the following week. But i doubt he is bullshitting anyway....

Put yourself in the other guys shoes, if YOU organised a flight, ride to view this car, organised the time with the seller saying your gonna buy it on the spot with $42k cash but you only get shut down when you rock up to his door step saying "oh sorry buddy I just sold the car"..would you be pissed?

take your time in purchasing a car and you should be right, I'd wait until after Tuesday, if its sold there will be others on the market cause pretty much sounds the other guy has first dibs on it.

Yeh absolute bullshit. No way anyone is going to give some guy a free flight over here just to come and look at the car. Either they can spare the expense and come look at it, or they can find a car in their own region. It's a risk you take that the car will be sold to someone else. No chance he is paying for this guys trip

oh ok, do you know him? I was just writing what he told me.

When I looked at it he told me he had a guy who works up north wanting to buy it within the next 2 weeks. didn't really believe him.

Anyhow, the car is like new inside and it's a pretty fair price I think

Yeah i think i'll wait till after Tuesday and see what happens. Hopefully the guy that looked at my beamer last night buys it so that way i can put the money in the bank and get interest on it. The comes the process of saving for a 34 GTR and finding one that is immaculate =\

Tough shit, that's the risk you take when you go on a trip like that. There is absolutely no obligation to sell to someone just because they are coming from further away. You sell to the person who has the cash, not the person willing to travel further.

How would you feel if you told a serious potential buyer that they couldn't have the car because someone was coming from over east to look at it, then the guy shows up and decides he doesn't want the car. Then you've lost the sale.

thats why I said wait until Tuesday and call him then, you didnt answer my question about how'd you feel if you was in the other guys shoes?

Yes ideally I would prefer a V-Spec or V-Spec II, but I can't have my cake and eat it too :D

I will have my mechanic check the car and hook it up to his diagnostics equiptment.

Are there any common problems with the R34 GTR non-vpsecs?

Hi Jason,

If you pay a deposit, how long will the seller wait for you to pay the remainder?

If your parents have a mortgage, can they utilise the redraw facility if required?

I've sold cars before and on 2 occasions, I allowed the buyer 30 days to pay up & 1 of them I gave an extra 5 days.

No rust anywhere? > Check VINS Fasted thread on this forum?

I have a Non-V-Spec > VS-II imitation.

There've been absolutely no problems other than an oil pump > N1 replacement in 4 yrs

I run 1 bar and give it a few squirts (as far as a weekend car goes).

Other than imported JDM mods, it's been lowered with Tanabe springs to VSpec height + VSpec lip/front diffuser + Nismo Skirts/Pods + rear C/F diffuser costed me $900 new, + NACA Duct $45

Of course i'd be pissed off but you have to be logical, if you're so prepared to fly over to the other side of the country just to look at a car, then you have to be prepared for the possibility that that car will not be the one you will be purchasing. Have a look in the import threads, see how many of those guys have flown to places like Japan, over east, all over the place, simply looking for a car but still haven't found one. Don't expect a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Hi Terry,

I did ask the seller today "if I pay a deposit of X amount of dollars, how long will you hold the car in order for my self to pay the remaining account". He said he wasn't too sure.

My parents don't have a mortgage and they won't give me any more to buy another car, so I'm on my own. I have considered a loan of up to $20,000 with the remaining amount coming from the sale of my BMW 323Ci. I have already looked into loan repayments, interest rates etc and calculated that after fuel per fortnight, i will be able to make repayments with plenty of $$$ in my pocket etc.

I had my older brother with me and we could not find any rust or any evidence of an accident in the form of bent chassis rails etc etc. Even underneath the car there are no marks from jacking the car, so it has always been jacked upon the correct jacking spots.

I will have another chat with my brother over dinner tonight and from there will sort out my options. I may just wait until Tuesday and then call the seller to see if it has sold. If it has, tough luck, if not i should have a little more time.

Yeah i'll grab the VIN number and run it through VINS Fasted.

Cheers for the advice

No i don't know him, he is just a person who ended up buying my car.

When i had the car there was no accident history, no bents rails and no rust. Although, check under the rear middle little on the boot, i believe something was happening around there. Also, if you look under the left side sideskirt, there are about 4 deep gouges underneath. There is that scratch on the front left.

I didn't have 1 bit of dmg on the car since i got it.

It was a lovely car for me and didn't skip a beat, but that doesnt mean anything as i dont know what the new owner has used it for.

Also, the number plates are different?

I'm unsure about the facts of this case but i put down a deposit, got the car inspected by a workshop, flew over to brisbane for a car

I'd sure be @#$%^&*() pissed if he sold it before i arrived and i'll definately get something out of him if he did.

If he agreeded via email to this "buyer" that he would hold it for him then his definately expected to hold onto it until it gets inspected

you dont have to sign an contract to enter into an agreement, your actions can be considered as intent

however i do agree with others that this buyer is fictional

Hi, Jason. I would caution anyone buying any specialist interest car to be careful and take everything presented with a pinch of salt. The guy may well be genuine and as honest as the day is long. Unfortunately, many of the people selling interesting cars are nothing short of crooks who prey on the goodwill of others. It also seems that selling a car can bring out the worst in people who are just selling their own vehicle.

So do all you can to investigate the provenance of the car. Ask to see the service records and go through them. Ask to see the auction sheet and check the chassis number against the sheet. Ask to see records that prove the mileage when he fitted the Nismo speedo.

Don't let him rush you with tales of people flying in. He is trying to get you to offer more than the fly-buyer. If the fly-buyer does not materialise, suddenly you are in the driving position and can dictate your own offer. Personally I would not trust someone who tries to play me off against someone who is flying in with cash!

Also, anyone selling an "unmodified example" who is also selling an HKS exhaust and a Power FC does not ring true! Just call me cynical!

Also, unless your mate is experienced in GTRs, and R34s in particular, then I would take the car to a workshop where they have that experience. Imports 101 is the one I would recommend. These cars have very specialist equipment that many mechanics will not have seen and will not know what to look for.

Cheers. :D

Hi Canute,

Cheers for your advice mate, much appreciated. Yes, i will be waiting until Tuesday/Wednesday and seeing if the "over-east" buyer does materialise or not.

My mechanic has been in the business for 20+years and does have a fairly broad knowledge of these cars however he is by no means a specialist in GTR's. He does have certain diagnostics equiptment to conduct a compression test etc.

As the seller has stated in the ad that the GTR is "un-modified" - this is incorrect, as the vehicle does have the Power-FC AND the HKS Exhaust System already fitted.

Must get going, gota go out for my brothers birthday!

These days official emails are considered signed legal documents, even if they don't have your signature on them. So if he has said in an email that he will hold the car and the guy has put a deposit down then yes, there is an obligation there to hold the car for them. However i don't remember reading anywhere that this potential interstate buyer had put a deposit down, nor that he had said he would hold it for him. Just that he was flying over from Adelaide to look at it.

If this guy had actually put a deposit down on the car, or had an agreement with the owner to hold it for him... Why would the owner even bother getting it inspected and things for Jason? I know i would just say "look i'm holding the car for someone, if it falls through then i'll let you know".

    • GTSBoy on your suggestion on another thread I had a look at those injectors and ended up getting them because of the quality.  Got the expensive ones.
    • Hey guys been looking everywhere to try and find the correct gtr hood latch support part number but only found the first half and when I search with that number it sends me to an r34. The first part I found was 62515. If anyone could help me with the rest then I’d really appreciate it. Or if there’s some alternative hood latch support that would work even better cause I can’t find any for sale. (Searched on upgarage, partsouq, buyee, rhdjapan)
    • If you've only done the upper control arms on the rear, AND you have changed their length (by more than about 1mm) to set the camber you want, then you will definitely need/want to install traction arms also. Adjusting the camber arms on their own WILL introduce bump steer and make the car unpleasant to drive. Most owners have no idea that their car could behave infinitely better than what they put up with. I'm not entirely sure what the Stageas need, but I am thinking that unless you have massive front spring rates and pretty soft rear springs, you have waaaay too much rear bar. Oversteer city, in my estimation. Combined with possible excessive bump steer from maladjusted arms, that could be a recipe for nastiness. ATR43SS2 is not a highflow. It is an outright replacement turbo. It's a little bit bigger than the largest highflow profile that Tao does. Probably a solid 300rwkW turbo where the bigger highflows will be about 30-40rwkW less. Nevertheless, we're only talking about ~300 rwkW, which is well within the abilities of the stock ECu to run with a Nistune on board. I would do so without hesitation - and I will be doing so when I get my finger out and actually get the injectors and AFM installed. But, if you would prefer to drop a whole lot more money on the ECU side, then I suspect you're looking at Haltech. The Haltech fanbois here will all spout on about all the available engine protection you can have, that you can't have with the Nistune option. And they're right. But it doesn't really come for free either. You will spend more money on extra sensors and the like, plus the work to install them. If the engine was built and therefore represented a big investment to protect, then I'd say definitely do it. If you view the current (and forever into the future) shortage of replacement engines as something to prompt similar protection, then also, do it. If you see a destroyed RB25 as an opportunity to put in a Mercedes or other V12 (like I kinda do)... then your perception of the risk/reward might differ. These are good injectors. You can also get a "better" set of the same with more flow matching, for more $$. 1000cc is where you will want to be. You will need an R35 AFM and adapter tube if you want to stay with Nistuned stock ECU. Otherwise, if going Haltech, you can ignore. As for intercooler. Just about anything will do. You're only talking about ~300rwkW. Just put a big core in there. Be aware that return flows do add significant pressure drop and will cost power and will make the turbo work harder to achieve the same goals. If you can manage a proper crossflow, do it. I'm keeping my very good return flow because I'm only expecting to be in the ~250rwkW range, and will live with whatever outcome I get.
    • I have a heap that i have collected if you want some authentic ones still. Pm me if your interested!
