Needs Advice! Urgent!

hi guys...

needs some expert advice here...im no expert mechanic, the other day tried changing my spark plugs only to find out i couldnt take the strut bar off cause it was tight as f*ck . so decided maybe i could get around it, started unclipping everything and unbolts everything without taking the strut bar. ended up failing as i couldnt take the lid off as the strut bar is on the way, so decided to give up only to find my self in trouble putting the hose clams back in to the plenum(i dont know whats its called but photo provided below). tried 2 days in arrow now the damn thing wont go back in as i cant pull back the pipe as far as i could its too damn stiif..should i take it to mechanic?? i just think its a waste of money to tow my car then pay mechanic to just simply connect the pipe back again..so is there any other way i could put the damn thing back in?? or someone kind enough to help a poor guy out for a pack of vb?? or something in return>??

cheers mate, but there's nothing wrong with the clamps itself, i just cant get the clamps back into the other end...there's not enough space is my problem...cant find enough strength to pull the pipe down in..

cheers bro, but its not the case, i dont know how to explain myself, but as i mentioned before, i cant seems to pull the pipe down enough to find the other end and just slip it in...

Like he says, get some lube on the job. I use CRC 808 Silicone Spray (in a can) You should be able to get that from any autoparts store or even hardware/Bunnings possibly. This stuff will revitalise old rubber/compound material, good for lots of jobs around older vehicles (about $15/can) Something else worth trying is to warm that pipe up to soften it, make it more pliable til it cools down. Wrap some towelling round it & wet the cladding with the old kettle of boiling water. Take care not to fill manifold up, maybe cover up gaps to internals with some gaffa tape temporarily, can probably use gaffa tape to get car to mechanic if you are still in trouble. Carefully driven of course.

PS: Once the flexible pipe is in position, could you not completely open hose clamps, pass around pipe work then rejoin?

hey bro, thanx for that, i might get my self some CRC silicon spray today and try my luck, i think u r right the hose clamps are effing stiff!! needs to soften it up..

if not, i might have to just take it to mechanic, is the gaffa tape strong enough to hold the thing off if i decided to drive it down to a mechanic?? just dont wanna damage the car or anything..can u confirm this??

Oh my.... can someone PLEASE go around and help this poor guy out? Mate, DON'T go pouring water anywhere near your unsealed inlet system, please! And DO NOT drive if sealed with gaffer tape! FFS

I have not used gaffa or any other tape myself in a situation such as you are in. I would be trying it if all my other cunning plans failed however before I hired a towie.

The tape thing is it depends on : 1. How far you intend to travel, 2. How well you do the temporary tape job, 3. How hard you drive the car to the mechanic & so on. You will of course check/observe the effectiveness of your temporary repair (if you go down this path) before you launch from the comfort of your own driveway, wont you?

But just soften that pipe up, move it into position & refit your hose clamps or some clamps that can be fully opened & re-threaded round your manifold without the dramaa of squeezing them through gaps that they don't wanna go through.

you can open all hose clamps up all the way, wrap them around the pipe and then do them back up.

make sure your rubber joiner isnt pushed too far down the pipe if you cant seem to get it on. it really is not a difficult task.

sorry i think i got everyone confused or i got my self confused, i think its the rubber joiner i have trouble with..i got the 2 clamps out already...its just that big black rubber as u could see on the photo i have on, that i am having problem putting back or joining back in at the other end!! its too hard the rubber itself and its got a few m.m. gap so its not on properly..

buy the same size in silicon hose and join it with that, don't tow it, accept the challenge and beat it.

Have you tried assembling them down near the other rubber joiner, then moving them into position?

Standard Supercrap screw-type clamps, like I suggested in the first place.

And you realise that the strut bar has a tensioner setup in it? You just need to undo the lock nut, and the threaded piece will screw in and take the tension off the strut bar.

Which "westside" are you from?

wd40 on the bolts a single hex socket and hopefully the bolts on the strut brace should come off
