Ok guys im putting it out there to the community too, im thinking of wrapping my car in matte black......myself.

Why?:

-I have a thing for matte black.

-Im sure it might be the first one in Aus.

-Me actually thinks it would look good on a V35.

-SURPRISINGLY the cost is not as outrageous as i thought it would be, thus the risk.

-Oh and i have a bit of experience putting vinyls on roofs of different cars, inc. mine.

-You can always peel it off, after a claybar and a wash its good as new.....yes i am using a good quality vinyl.

What i want to know is what you guys think, do you have any advice, any past experiences, tips etc? Do you think the driver of a matte black V35 would look like a complete douche bag?? (what im most afraid of).

Btw, if you have seen my car....err not much done to it appart from a drop, if i did get the wrap i would atleast get my rims sprayed matte black aswel......oh and cost wise? your looking around the $350 mark with LOTS of haggling from already made connections in the industry.

Hey mate,

no personal experience but came across this thread over at E90 of a guy doing a nice DIY wrap of his BMW 330i:

Given your experience and the price point I'd say go for it - should look awesome!!

matte black will only look good if you have US guys G35 spec fitment and stance. most guys in oz seem to have their nuts tightly locked away in their purses when it comes to these two qualities, so unless you're willing to break with the norm, just make yours look somewhat tasteful and leave it at that. Otherwise you'll be rocking a colour fad from two years ago on fail fitment and stance, and you'll just be someone who hasn't quite got it right.

Get the wheels, stance and fitment right, and rock matte black, and no one will dare to criticise your choice in colour, even if it isn't to their taste. In this day and age when tonnes of guys have done it better, even if they are in a different country, if you don't get the package completely right, someone will shoot you down for not measuring up.

Amen on that!....i totally agree, its just that the price of this mod is MUCH lower then modding the car to achive the agressive stance (Wheels, low ofset, tyre strech). I was just thinking of putting some hubcentric spacers on mine :D . Maybe the difference between modding and tasteful modding is sequence.

do the bootlid roof and bonnet to start with... see if you like it.

lol thats what really made an idea in the back of my head come to the front as a real possibility. Lots of discussion going on in the BMW thread about the quality of vinyl to be used.

lol to me silver was what i wanted, but truly you cannot compare matte black to our v35s OB. Two totally different textures and surfaces. Hmm as for the bonnet and boot, i am an avid hater of the "my black hood will make it look like carbon fibre" look. Logically i understand where you guys are comming from and thank you for that, but its all or nothing with me.

It would look fat!!! do it!!!! Only reason why i haven't already done it is because i don't have the patients to do something like that. But you have to have some mean offset wheels otherwise it would look gay.

    • This was a huge help.  We followed the steps,  although shifting into 2nd was actually into 3rd for us,  and 1st was into 2nd ( steps 9 and 11) .  The long flash was the 4th flash.  So shift solenoid A is possibly the culprit.  Is this inside the transmission itself? Or is it accessible by just front the pan? Or is it bolted to the outside of the transmission?  Thanos for your help everyone
    • Can you enlighten me on your best practice regarding these hoses? I don't wanna make the same mistake if you already got a better solution.
    • I have some silicon hoses already, for example engine to watercooler. But yeah, I get the sentiment. The lower intercooler silicon hose is drippy too, despite not being very old. Does anyone except Nismo make these same lines out of rubber? Long term I think they'd be the better replacement, especially since the car won't live as hard a life anymore as in the past nor be driven as often.
    • I know most issues are just age related. But for example the turbo oil drains, there is dash adapters for these and you can just make a braided teflon line for them and (probably) never have them leak again. Also not terribly expensive. Can you even get the factory hardlines from new? Or are they repairable if they break?
    • I know it'd be much much easier with the tool. I hope I can find one that won't take 3 weeks to get to me an isn't a "Asian models kit" that has tons of (to me) useless adapters for a load of cash.   It's a summer project/fun car. I do wanna enjoy it, without endless downtime over and over. So yeah I would even go and buy an engine crane + stand to save myself the trouble of hard to reach or unreachable places going bad later on. Would also be a good opportunity to put on a Fluidamper, renew the mains seals and stuff like that. I have some money on the side that I can use for that, what I wouldn't want to or be able to do is let everything be done by a shop or have my engine completely rebuild right now. I intend to do most of the "doable" jobs myself. Pulling an engine can't be that hard, can it?
