Hey guys,

As can be ssen im new on here, so hi. I just picked up a nice '95 R33 GTST and it has a pod filter. I am under the impression this is a defect possible mod. How can i fix this without putting a stock air filter on it? Will a heat shield from autobarn work? Or will i need a new box to cover the pod?

Any help is greatly appreciated and if this is in the wrong place or there is already a thread on here about this topic, a link would be great.

Cheers guys

Whether its a defect or not depends on which state you are in, in QLD you are allowed one, just needs to be secured with a bracket so its not bouncing around, and i believe in Melb you are only allowed one intake mod (corrections?) so its either a pod of FMIC.

With regards to concealing it, there are a heap of tutorials on creating a pod filter box/CAI in the tutorial/fabrication sections, most of which can be made to look fairly stock so it wont attract attention if/when being inspected.

That said, you can always just go for a high flow panel filter in the stock air box (you would obviously need to source a stock air box first)

Here in SA the pod(s) just need to be secured to the chassis. I just took my new gtr through an I'd check on Friday. It's got twin apexi pods but they are bolted down so they passed no worries.

If you are in Victoria, you can only have 1 intake mod.

So it is either having an Air Pod / No aftermarket Front Mount Intercooler.

Or

An aftermarket Front Mount Intercooler / No Air Pod.

I assume you have the stock Side Mount Intercooler, you will be fine with the pod.

I got some advice saying that a heat shield will be sufficient. Is this not true then?

It will help, but if you can find the stock R33 GTS-T air intake and just bolt that on to its original place and it will feed air to the pod.

It will help with the air flow to the pod.

OK lol

Lots of cars have exposed pods and they're not supposed to (legally)

They should be boxed in with a snorkel feed.

But many owners who run the risk of being defected have a higher chance of being picked up if...

a) they're roaming around at night

b) they congregate at KK, Maccas

c) they're loud, lowered to 100mm or worse

d) they drive like tools

Fabrications can be done via Just Jap, Unigroup Eng., Hills Motorsport etc = your choice
